is there any way how to improve in osu!mania?

at 3 star just practice all kind of maps the ones you like, anyway its quite easy to reach 4* stage so you don't have to worry

around 4 star you should start to practice jacks as those are very common in high star maps

Ah yes, the joys of being a new player. What to do, what to play? What keyboard should I have? What scroll speed should I use? What skin? What maps are good for practice? All these questions are so common in the osu!mania community, it's almost like we should have some kind of central FAQ section for it.

I was in the same boat as you. Judging from your profile, it looks like you can only play the easiest of maps. Also judging from your profile, it looks like you haven't really dedicated yourself to the game since you joined 2 years ago. That's OK! There is always time for improvement! Now, let's get started.

[STAGE 1] Since you can only play around 2*, you obviously have very little proper muscle memory to play even the simpler patterns. At this stage, you need to just play what you want and enjoy yourself. In about two months of hard playing (also known as grinding), you will probably find yourself playing 3*-4* maps. This is where it gets hard.

[STAGE 2] Once you are a 3*-4* player, you will need to train specific patterns (a.k.a. skillsets). You need to shift AWAY from ranked maps as much as possible and generally stick to unranked ones. The reason? Ranked maps are focused on making it as easy as possible to gain PP. As a result, you will become great at farming, and the patterns featured in these so called "farm maps". As a side effect, you will be not-so-great at the patterns featured in the harder maps of osu!mania. Am I saying to stop playing ranked? Of course not! Just don't make the focus of every session, "I GOTSA GET PP NOW AND AI WANT RANKE".

[STAGE 3] You have mastered the patterns in 3*-4* maps, and you want to get serious. Getting to 5*+ is an amazing accomplishment. Now you REALLY have to train patterns. Now is the time in which you may want to consider switching to a game called Etterna: https://etternaonline.com/ It will allow you to further refine your skillsets and become a truly good player. Not that it's impossible to get good from osu!mania; it just gets really hard.

[STAGE 4] You have fought and fought and you are able to complete even 7* maps (me!). Good job on your incredible improvement! You should treat yourself to a cookie. You earned it. Now, unfortunately, this is likely not quite good enough to get accepted into official tournaments like MWC, but you will still be able to pull of somewhat crazy scores.

[STAGE 5] You have pushed through months upon months upon months of being still reletively mediocre and you have finally got to the point where everyone around you is like, "Bro, this DUDE is GOOD!" You have become a legend. Every time to livestream yourself playing, a crowd of 500+ gathers and watches you in admiration.

[STAGE 6] silly fangirl sointu jakads wonder5193 etc. you are unstoppable.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Everything I just said above will happen. Unfortunately, I can't tell you when these things will happen. Everyone has their own improvement timescale, so to speak. On average, it takes 5 years to get to Stage 6. Some people have managed to get to that stage in a year and a half, which is mighty impressive. I have been playing for 1 year and 5 months and I am at Stage 4.

Here is a timescale that I think you should follow pretty accurately. Note that in order to fall in this timescale, you have to be MOTIVATED. You have to spend hours on osu! or Etterna or [insert rhythm game here] to fall under this timescale. You can do it.

Seeing as you are a beginner, we will start with your skill level now.

Now: Stage 1
1 MONTH FROM NOW: Stage 2
2 MONTHS: Stage 2
3 MONTHS: Stage 2
4 MONTHS: Stage 2
5 MONTHS: Stage 2 (it take a long time dont it)
6 MONTHS: Stage 2 (yeah, 3*-4* is pretty broad)
7 MONTHS: Stage 3 (it takes a reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally long time to get to stage 4)
8 MONTHS: Stage 3
9 MONTHS: Stage 3
10 MONTHS: Stage 3
11 MONTHS: Stage 3
1 YEAR: Stage 3
1 YEAR, 1 MONTH: Stage 4

You will be in Stage 4 for a few years, if you're lucky. Trust me, rhythm games are something that you DEDICATE to.

~2-4 YEARS: Stage 5

You will also be in Stage 5 for a while, usually a few more years.

~8-10 YEARS: STAGE 6

You are now messing with the big boys. :)

Note that this time scale is based off my personal experience. Feel free to let me know if I was completely wrong. Everyone has their own timescale, but this seems to be the average.

Thanks for reading this rather large post! See you in MWC someday :3

maybe you play very little each day? thats maybe why your total play time is still 8 hour
Bobbias
Total play time only counts ranked maps. If you play 95% unranked you are gonna have silly looking amounts of time played. Consider how long I've been playing rhythm games. I'm probably close to 10k hours across every rhythm game I've played, but only have about 8 days of ranked play time.

For reference I've been playing rhythm games off and on for 16 years with several big breaks, and started playing mania on the first day it was publicly released. However, I'm also an example of someone with basically no talent in rhythm games and an extremely slow learning speed. Most people with even somewhere close to the same amount of time are top players like jakads...

Let me cry here a bit

Tbf, how fast you graduate a stage is depended on how often you play the game. I was able to achieve stage 5 in 2 and a half years, and it is still nothing comparing to people who is more dedicated into the game and focus solely on improving
abraker
I've been playing for 6 years. Where is my Stage 5?

16 years of rhythm games and I'm at stage 4... fuck.

just keep in mind that if you're pressing arrows you're already winning, as there is no defined ending to rhythm gaming. in other words have fun and play tons :)
Smosism
Join Multiplayer lobbies for you difficulty range (2*-3,5*) and just have fun picking new maps from others and trying different types of maps on your own too. The more you play, the more little skills you'll be able to read and eventually perfect.

After you are able to identify basic patterns (see this image for reference) you can create 'Collections' in game for these patterns (Like a LN collection, a Jumpstream Collection, a Minijack collection, a SV collection and so on) so you can go back and practice those specific skill sets when you feel like it.

Good to note that for your level, it's best to not repeat the same map over and over and better to try diffirent maps once and only come back to them much later. This is unique to osumania over other modes since in on your level of play repeating the same map can create a 'false sense of progress'.

Other than that, be confortable with your Skin + Scroll speed (assuming you're not using scaling scroll speed, which most player would advise against using it) and have fun with the game.

This.
Take your time playing what you think is fun. Set some clear(and realistc!) short term goals for yourself that you can work towards.

Don't try to look too far in the future, everyone progresses on their own pace and saying you need to be this rank by then is just silly.

The most important thing I believe is not to pressure yourself too hard into improving (some hunger for improvement is important but too much will work against yourself) but to have fun!

Lmao I play your maps so much for practice, they are much better and fun compared to rank maps lol.
