quick irc check/discussion over extra
irc
18:38 IceKalt: hey~
18:38 Plaudible: hey :) what's up?
18:38 IceKalt: are you busy atm?
18:38 Plaudible: not really
18:39 IceKalt: you have time for a irc / or testplay if you dont feel like irc?
18:39 Plaudible: sure ^^
18:39 IceKalt: oh noice ^^
18:40 IceKalt: but beware - you are like the first one who is modding this map^^
18:40 *IceKalt is editing [https://osu.ppy.sh/b/1343172 fhana - little secret magic [Extra]]
18:41 IceKalt: than extra
18:41 IceKalt: and yea - need to think of a better name for the top diff
18:44 Plaudible: hmm
18:44 Plaudible: this is pretty nice
18:45 IceKalt: thanks^^
18:45 Plaudible: i like that you're consistent with concepts throughout, just have a few things i wanna nitpick though
18:46 Plaudible: the intro and ending to this song have like constant drum rolls
18:46 Plaudible: it'd be cool if you could introduce those 1/4 rhythms somehow more
18:46 Plaudible: it feels awkward playing 1/1 sliders when all i hear is 1/4 drums in the bg along with the piano
18:46 Plaudible: in an extra you could probably incorporate more of those rhythms into this
18:47 IceKalt: uhm
18:47 IceKalt: which drums do you mean :D
18:47 Plaudible: starting at 00:00:352 (1) -
18:47 Plaudible: going until 00:07:717 (1) -
18:48 Plaudible: also you make a lot of strong sounds not clicakble
18:48 Plaudible: clickable*
18:48 Plaudible: take the white tick on 00:09:559 (7) - or 00:13:069 (2) - for example
18:48 Plaudible: even when following vocals you want to be sure you don't override some of these important sounds
18:48 IceKalt: 00:07:103 -
18:48 Plaudible: and yeah there too XD
18:48 IceKalt: well
18:49 IceKalt: when i have really strong vocals -
18:49 IceKalt: i want to really emphazise them
18:49 IceKalt: and if there is a beat
18:49 Plaudible: exactly
18:49 Plaudible: building on that though
18:49 Plaudible: when you add more rhythms into it
18:49 Plaudible: you arent taking away from it
18:49 Plaudible: if anything, by making it harder to play
18:49 Plaudible: you add to the vocals there
18:49 Plaudible: just a long slider to follow through doesn't really match the intensity of the vocals yknow?
18:50 IceKalt: i guess you are looking at 00:12:609 (1,2) -
18:50 IceKalt: for example
18:50 Plaudible: yea or 00:15:058 (7,8) -
18:50 Plaudible: oh also
18:50 Plaudible: be sure to check aimod you have a lot of snapping issues
18:51 IceKalt: OH
18:51 IceKalt: what the
18:51 Plaudible: might be since you did sv changes or timing changes
18:51 IceKalt: when i checked last time there was nothing
18:51 IceKalt: probably
18:52 Plaudible: and if you are following vocals strongly, make sure you do consistently, since you're missing out on some points like 00:22:099 (6) -
18:53 IceKalt: well - i did this there because a even strogner vocal was following after that~
18:53 Plaudible: i think spacing emphasis would be more appropriate then if you want to focus on strength in vocals :)
18:53 Plaudible: or flow
18:54 Plaudible: something like http://puu.sh/wzmsO/ba41945933.jpg perhaps
18:55 IceKalt: i like you solution there
18:55 IceKalt: well + consistency because of 00:24:548 (8) -
18:55 Plaudible: ^^
18:55 IceKalt: thats like the same part
18:55 Plaudible: oh another thing
18:55 Plaudible: 00:32:048 (1) -
18:55 Plaudible: 00:36:946 (1) -
18:55 Plaudible: these dont really exist in the music
18:56 Plaudible: even though you're following the drums here, since there's so little to map to i think you really need to do both vocals and drums
18:56 IceKalt: i wanted an offbeat there to emphasise the upcoming intensity
18:57 Plaudible: mm even then, you should avoid throwing in rhythms that dont exist in the song
18:58 IceKalt: i need more opinions there - you are probably right there
18:58 IceKalt: but i wanna let this atm
18:58 Plaudible: your call, no worries
18:58 Plaudible: 00:46:895 (1,2,1,2) - imo these should be spaced a lot more
18:58 Plaudible: since the vocals get a lot stronger going into the chorus
18:58 Plaudible: im talkin like http://puu.sh/wzmDT/20640cfd4d.jpg
18:59 Plaudible: it'll make the jumps ahead be easier too
18:59 Plaudible: and feel a bit more natural
18:59 IceKalt: i can do this i guess
18:59 Plaudible: 00:58:987 - triple here, drums in te bg
19:00 IceKalt: fixed
19:00 Plaudible: 01:02:661 (4,5,6) - i get the vocals being followed here, but consider this rhythm maybe: http://puu.sh/wzmHc/30adb3bc6f.jpg since the drum gets sorta lost
19:00 Plaudible: on the sliderend
19:01 IceKalt: https://osu.ppy.sh/ss/8488322
19:02 IceKalt: that should work
19:02 Plaudible: o7 looks good
19:02 Plaudible: 01:04:956 (1,2,3,1,2,3) -
19:02 Plaudible: this isnt bad persay, but the way it's incorporated doesnt play too well
19:02 Plaudible: since for the strong parts you've been using sharp angled jumps
19:02 Plaudible: switching to linear jumps is extremely noticeable in gameplay and can be really awkward to play out
19:03 Plaudible: 01:18:426 (4,5,6,7,8,9) - consistency with the other part, it's a triple ;u
19:03 Plaudible: 01:23:630 (1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3) - again the linear flow deal, and these jumps are a lot smaller than your others though i feel you could go bigger
19:04 IceKalt: i dont feel like making them bigger
19:04 Plaudible: compare it to 01:04:038 (1,2,3,1,2,3) - though :c
19:04 IceKalt: cause its like an introduction - the jumps should get more difficult to play
19:05 IceKalt: but here the jump part is much longer you see?
19:05 IceKalt: so starting off smaller makes it a bit easier
19:05 Plaudible: here lemme try another approach
19:05 Plaudible: compare 01:24:089 (1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,4) - directly to 01:26:079 (1,2,3,1,2,3,4) - purely from the song
19:06 Plaudible: they're pretty much identical by sound, though they play a lot different
19:06 Plaudible: i get what you're going for, but this drastic of a change between the same section is a little much
19:06 Plaudible: also note in the final pattern at 01:28:528 (1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,4) - there's a lot of 1/4 rhythms
19:07 IceKalt: but the mains are -1- 2 3 -1- 2 3...
19:08 IceKalt: you can check this when you turn off speed by 25%
19:08 IceKalt: like the other jump parts
19:08 Plaudible: wait wha
19:08 Plaudible: not complaining about how you emhpasize the jumps, it's right that 1 is emphasized
19:08 Plaudible: but it's just how the spacing devlops
19:09 IceKalt: hm
19:09 Plaudible: and in the last one the rhythm gets quite odd if you literally follow it as it is, something like: http://puu.sh/wzn0W/3bff62c9d8.jpg
19:12 IceKalt: uhm idk but i cant follow your thoughts :(
19:13 IceKalt: or do you mean that the rythm is like this how you showed me
19:13 Plaudible: yeah it is at 01:28:528 (1) -
19:13 Plaudible: might be weird to incorporate but it could be something you could play around with
19:13 IceKalt: uh
19:14 IceKalt: i thinks thats like unplayable
19:14 IceKalt: and would fit in the map
19:14 IceKalt: i dint had like theese complicated rythms anywhere
19:14 IceKalt: well - they are not that complicated - but for the map they are
19:14 Plaudible: you could simplify it into something like this perhaps/
19:14 Plaudible: http://puu.sh/wznbJ/05484be790.jpg
19:16 IceKalt: i guess i let the ryth at it is cause thats like a compleatly other thing i did before
19:16 IceKalt: cause i mostly dont use triples in the map
19:17 IceKalt: and it would be unfitting if the final would be triple spam
19:17 Plaudible: well, not particularly
19:17 Plaudible: the point of mapping is to directly represent the song as much as possible
19:17 Plaudible: if the song gets weird it's okay if your map does too
19:17 IceKalt: or its just that i dislike it xD
19:17 Plaudible: triples arent too out of the ordinary, and it'd fit for sure
19:17 Plaudible: /shrug again, your call
19:18 IceKalt: I'll try remapping that tomorrow with the triples
19:18 IceKalt: that would take too long now
19:18 Plaudible: kk
19:18 IceKalt: and i can decide then what i will choose ^^
19:18 Plaudible: same spiel about the ending as the intro, streaming would be dope for 01:33:440 (1) -
19:18 Plaudible: cause of all the 1/4 drums
19:19 IceKalt: spiel? :D
19:19 Plaudible: those rolls definitely deserve it that drummers' hands are probably dead
19:19 Plaudible: uhh thing that i said earlier
19:19 Plaudible: dont overwrite the 1/4 rhythms, incorporate them
19:19 Plaudible: last little thing i got is that 01:42:624 (1) - the sliderend here should be clickable, it's a strong sound just as strong as the head's sound
19:20 IceKalt: probably yea
19:21 Plaudible: try to play around with some new aesethetics, everything just felt like blankets so it wasn't exciting visually
19:21 IceKalt: uhm :D
19:21 IceKalt: mapping around blankets is like the thing i do
19:22 *IceKalt is listening to [https://osu.ppy.sh/b/1312305 Shikata Akiko - Katayoku no Tori]
19:22 IceKalt: look for example this
19:22 Plaudible: i assure you everyone does XD
19:22 IceKalt: this is like purely blaking circular mapping
19:22 Plaudible: but
19:22 Plaudible: theres more you can do
19:22 Plaudible: overlaps arent necessarily bad, and you can incorporate them into your map
19:23 IceKalt: you see - im realtively new to mapping so things like handling overlaps - thats like a thing i need to learn
19:23 Plaudible: parallel structure really add to aesthetics, things like http://puu.sh/wznvN/52861698ee.jpg
19:23 Plaudible: yeah dude no worries
19:23 Plaudible: takes a while to figure out how to use them well
19:24 Plaudible: just look at how other maps incorporate them and play around with some ideas :)
19:24 IceKalt: well i did some of theese in the insane
19:24 IceKalt: 01:40:786 (1,2,1,2,1,2,3,1) -
19:26 IceKalt: (and btw dont complain about spread/hitsounds/etc - this map is 3 days old :D
19:27 Plaudible: XD
19:27 Plaudible: yeah things like that are cool
19:29 IceKalt: in this map i used wide angle more consistently
19:29 IceKalt: diff*
19:30 Plaudible: oh last thing, nc slider SV changes and stuff like at 01:01:130 (8) - in the insane
19:31 IceKalt: should i do it in the extra too?
19:31 IceKalt: cause i have the exact same sv change there (with the same pattern
19:35 Plaudible: oh yeah ofc
19:38 IceKalt: thanks for the mod ^^
19:38 IceKalt: you can post it in the thread - whats your overall opinion of the map?
19:39 Plaudible: sure sure
19:39 Plaudible: hmm
19:39 Plaudible: it's a good start and has some neat ideas but you can do a lot more with it
19:39 Plaudible: will be a while before this is near a quality that bn's might find worth pushing forward
19:39 Plaudible: but it's fairly solid nonetheless
