that's the lowest quality I've ever seen this picture posted with
Aurani
The quality of the picture reflects the quality of the bait.

I know, I'm just saying.

Someone really tried to find that sweet spot. If the quality was any lower, you couldn't read it anymore. It's perfect.

better un-sticky it

Some people don't look at stickied threads.

You have a personal agenda behind that request, Railey, I know it

wow I'm 188 too. We have so much in common Aurani, doesn't that make you want to share some pics with me?

@jordan: That man seems to be confused. Clearly she is still interested in letting him parent the kids, she just want to remove him from the genepool.

That's already being done for people with hereditary diseases. Not trying to insinuate that being short is a hereditary disease :v

Although I can see how "You're biologically unfit to make a child" could be more devastating to hear than "you're unfit to be a parent"

Also.. that dude is 180? That's not short at all. Troll-post
Aurani
I mean I've never shared pictures of my private parts, but alright, if you insist, I'll send you some via PMs...

It is still a religious book at the end of the day, and I'm sure if the Bible was burned instead they would have gotten the same penalty

It is a religious book. Who cares if you burn one? Why should that be illegal? Should we not have free speech? We theocracy now.

I definitely doubt anyone would get arrested for burning a Bible.

i live in a predominantly roman catholic country and i'm 98% sure that you won't get penalized for burning the bible. you'll get judged by the public, yeah. although i don't think there are laws that determine such act as illegal, since our president has made it clear that there should be a separation between the state and the church and as far as i'm concerned, this is true for the preceding presidents as well.

p.s. - i can't speak for other christian countries
Railey2
I have to agree with b1rd on this one. A country that arrests you for burning a "holy" book, is thoroughly fucked. Burning a book is a dick-move, and may very well be perceived by as a grave insult by some, but holy shit. It doesn't harm anyone. Should I get arrested when i burn the antifa manifesto too? Or when i burn a countries flag? Let people be dicks, let them have their offensive shit-opinions. Better if they express them like that than in other ways.
Zain Sugieres
Actually burning a flag is illegal in some countries constitution iirc and I would say that's an actual offence

Its illegal in the US afaik and i think that is equally stupid. A civilized society draws the line at violence or calls for violence against people or their property. Burning a quran or a flag is not that, it is only a symbolic fuck you, but not an act of actual violence against a group or person. Nobody should ever be in prison over someones hurt feelings, ESPECIALLY not if that person only feels insulted because you shat on his imaginary friend.

If you can not say "fuck you" to a person, group or organization without fear of prosecution, society is in a lot of trouble.
johnmedina999
It's not illegal in the US due to the Texas v. Johnson Supreme Court case. However, Zain is right in that some countries have flag burning in their law code; Italy is an example.
Aurani
Actually, burning a flag is an illegal act in every western country.

As far as burning religious books, you can actually get arrested in Bosnia for burning a Quran with the reason being "warmongering", but burning a Bible is just gonna get you some nasty looks and no penalty.
Foxtrot
I never said that I was against burning religious books. I was just stating what would have happened if it was a Bible instead. I agree with y'all
DaddyCoolVipper
worth mentioning is that he didn't just "burn a quaran", he made a video insulting the quaran/Muslims in general which included that as part of his anti-Muslim hate speech

if you throw a holy book onto a fire at home you'd never be arrested, the context is what made the difference here

Honestly, I think it's incredibly disingenuous of b1rd and Railey to talk as if the burning was the only important detail there. Did you guys only read the headline? Those are clickbaits for a reason
Railey2
Fair enough, my post was under the assumption that all he did was burn the quran. If the context is different, then my post might not apply to the situation at hand. My post was worded as a general statement anyway, so you can just look at it as being independent.
B1rd
"Fair enough"? How does your post not apply? You're contradicting everything you just said in your previous comment.

Apparently Vipper, you don't believe in free speech at all, and to you, mere insults should be illegal. You support laws that would have me arrested 100 times over if the things I've said online were brought to critical attention by the authorities.
Aurani
Actually, burning a holy book should not be punishable on its own, but if you do it in public in some form of hate speech, it should 100% result in heavy jail time.

Speaking of being in jail - the unis I go to decided that come next term there won't be any more of what I've been doing, which is to not attend the classes and only come when the testing period is.
That means I literally won't have ANY time to shitpost on my favourite kiddie forum anymore. =(

Insults alone shouldnt be punished. Vipper claimed that the guy did other shit in addition to the insults, though, which could potentially mean that he did something like promoting excessive violence ("kill all muslims!"). If that was the case, it'd be fair game to punish him. But not for burning the quran.

Mere insults should never be illegal. But idk what the guy actually did and i also don't care.

Oh ya @vipper i didnt even read the headline, lol
DaddyCoolVipper
I wouldn't say "heavy jail time" honestly.. personally if the video gets taken down and his video didn't actually end up inspiring racial hatred then he could get let off with a slap on the wrist, which seems to be where the proceedings are heading (if you read the article, the police are in talks with their local muslim community councillor to see how much of an effect the guy actually had w/ his hate speech video)

characterising what he did as "mere insults" is just trivializing what he did because you want to believe that people should be allowed to say anything without consequence. American freedom of speech doesn't exist in the UK btw- don't you respect the right of the British to exercise their own justice on their land, instead of following some policy from a country across the globe..?

Vipper didn't say that, he only said that he burned the quran and insulted Muslims, therefore that should be illegal hate speech. Hardly being disingenuous, for what reason would you expect someone to burn a Quran if not to insult Islam in the process?

But he's actually incorrect, there is no reference to the man even talking about Muslims in the first place.
DaddyCoolVipper
you're the most charitable person in the world when it comes to defending racists, aren't you
Aurani
So you're saying that the punishment should be reactionary? I definitely disagree.

Aurani wrote:

if his hate speech didn't cause any problems then that means he did no damage to anyone, so of course he wouldn't get punished nearly as much

the law is pretty much entirely reactionary and contextual based on whether or not someone actually caused harm to others, haven't you noticed that?
