I believe it shouldn't be a problem, since me, Bagno - the ultimate Polish Grammar mastah will do the checks.
I dont quite think you understood, O mastah. mateusz's post was about checking as in copying the stuff somewhere into osu! config~

He should learn to state phrases properly then.

When will the new translations be updated? There are new changes of the translations in osu!

(BTW, the system should be updated, too.)
FurukawaPan
pTransl seems to be warning about deprecated lines. The interface also is dragging me into a corner every time I submit a change.

I can't signup either, I am surprised there is still no french translation for the game!

I hope this can get fixed soon so that we can contribute to the osu online community!

Just a thought, shouldn't Chinese be split into Chinese (Traditional) and Chinese (Simplified)?

Well, they both translate to the same in English. It's just that both of them are written different.

That's peppy's reply on the registration issue.
Right now I would assume he's concentrating on .osz2 or other gameplay-related things, so this is probably further down on the to-do list.

But like he said, just hold out. :)

Things should be back in working order, with some new text up for translation. More to come this week.

Yay! Now I just gotta find a good translation for "Beatmap" :D
Topic Starter

Leave it as beatmap. Anyone playing osu! should know what a beatmap is (and if not, they will figure it out pretty damn fast).
Galkan
Yay, it's opened again! Thanks peppy! But my question: What's with dots? Add them or not?

Like here, for example. Only at spectator list showing option is a dot, but at the other options, there is not.
Topic Starter
peppy
Full stops? If they are in the original text then add them, else don't. Simple enough, right?
Timekiller
peppy, there are actually some issues with Russian translation, especially concerning numbers. For example, in "{0} maps will be deleted", russian translation for "map" will be slightly different when map count is ending with digit 1, digits 2-4 and digits 5-0, and form for "5-0" is also used for numbers ending with 11 to 20, including 11 to 20 themselves. It's not THAT critical, but looks quite... funny when done wrong way.

Also, thanks for fixing registration issues :)

For now figure a way to make it make the most sense in all cases. Might consider such issues in the future, but not now.

You either updated your post after I replied, or i missed the image because of your STUPID signature (which I took the liberty of removing). The seems like a typo; the full stop should not be there in that case.

Notice: Take this just as a suggestion, but I would like to add to every translated "Select Language" string the message in English in order you can revert the changes but you don't know really well the language (this would work specially with non-latin languages):

Example in Spanish: "Seleccionar Idioma (Select Language):"

I actually did it on all languages, but if you disagree you can vote down or post here so I can rollback this.

(P.S.: Now polish is incomplete again. Sorry. :( )

1 Some words has its own special translation. How to deal with them? If the system is for the small-group topic translation, why not to have a special words translate? It is separated from other translation and once they're changed, all the thing with the words will follow them. Like "Slider", "Filter" or something like that. Just let them be the special words and add something like <slider> <fliter> in the translation.

2 There're too many different words between Simplified Chinese and Traditionmal Chinese, especially some words appeared these years. Why not separate them?
Topic Starter
peppy
At some point I might do that, but for now just try and make things consistent, please.

Wait, wait, Korean Game Rating Board censors and rates every games sevices in Korea,(Yeah, that's law, what a foolish law.) And as I know the criteria of servicing in Korea or not for international games which can access in Korea is offering Korean translation or not. I'm quite worried that they might be able to intervene if we offer Korean translation.

Am I serious? Of course, they censors every games, even flash games, indie games, fan-made games, non-profit games, everything. They even tried to intervene steam to force censorships. (Though it seems they are cancel or postphone to do that, what a relief.)

That's really reasonable handling. At this point there are not that much Korean playing osu relatively to other online games, so they simply don't know this. (Online games are really popular in Korea.)

I just want to point out that it's a total overkill and nobody sane would use that, especially in languages which have declination and stuff - for example, in Polish you would have to translate every word seven times (different forms), and then pay attention which one you are using.

That would be work for some languages. Chinese characters are ideogram so it might not be affected by that. (Unfortunatly I don't know much about that, anybody can confirm?)

Leeg wrote:

Users vote on the translation they feel is the most accurate, once it reaches 3 green votes it becomes accepted and at that point it's probably close enough. If a user feels it's wrong even after it's been accepted they can mark it as wrong and then revise it to something better.

I doubt it has to be 100% perfect, just good enough not to cause confusion.

Could they knock-knock peppy to remove Korean translation? It sounds VERY weird.

Leeg wrote:

If users don't vote, they are either too lazy to do the checks or they don't know if it's correct form (should be revised or not)
You must have +3 votes on translation to mark it as correct, that's all.

Advertise the pTransl on the spanish forum and chat, then wait.

._. but there are some things that are 100% wrong, cause they make no sense or are FALSE FRIENDS translated literally and people do not check them.

Also lots of passive mode are used in English, but not in Spanish, but people feels it's ok, when it does not sound as spanish...

Galkan92 wrote:

They already done that (not exatly knock-knock) to some (One good example is webgame named Tribal Wars, which was blocked to access from Korea cause they didn't recieved any censorships in that time. Soon it get rated (this costs a lot) and open an official game service in Korea.) and tried to do that to valve's steam. (Exactly what you said, that foolish board wanted to force to remove Korean translation from the site and the program.)

Yeah, if you're sure it's wrong then mark it as wrong, don't ignore it.

The point is that everyone does what they can, if they contribute a single correct word in a sentence then that's good, someone else can correct any mistakes that the former person made, and it goes from there until you get a complete correct translation. :D
Neo Adonis
Most of the english words does not have a literal translation, like "spectate", as you say @Leeg. But with creativity I'm sure we will find a good word. In my case, I suck at this U_U , but I'm still trying.

Just trust in the community and do your best. If the translations are wrong, mark them wrong and try to correct them. I've seen your work and it's fine (few mistakes, but we're here to correct them).

P.S.: I take the opportunity to say I posted the translations on all languages just to save you the work in case you accepted my suggestion. Sorry, it won't happen again. ^^;

Why someone marked as wrong my translation?

UAC is not spanish, in spanish it is Control de Cuentas de Usuario = CCU. ._.

I don't think this translating system is ok ._.

Leeg (01 Nov 2010 at 00:29):
Motor gráfico por defecto.nUtiliza sombras para acelerar el rendimiento, pero puede ejecutarse de manera incorrecta en ordenadores muy antiguos.nUtiliza esta opción a menos que experimentes problemas.
and this one? shader= sombra is not shader= shader, shader HAS A WORD IN SPANISH USE IT.

@Leeg (01 Nov 2010 at 00:31):
Limitador de fotogramas:
¿Cual es el problema aquí? FPS= Fotogramas Por Segundo , where is the problem?

@Leeg (01 Nov 2010 at 00:31):

and what about this? I corrected the other translation which had random capital letters ._.

@Leeg (01 Nov 2010 at 00:33):
Ordenador de bajo rendimiento
Loled at this. PC in spanish is Ordenador, or Ordenador Personal, but PC in spanish is NOTHING.
But also marked as wrong, why?

To sum up, people just looks at english version and if it hasn't been translated literally they mark it as WRONG.

LOL-
Feno_old
Not sure what can be done about people clicking wrong when they're not supposed to, that's probably something peppy or someone more experienced will need to solve.
The system seems very open to people being douchebags or people who think they're right when they're actually wrong.
Galkan
Seriously, discuss it in your language section forum.

Hey ppy i want to translate the osu strings to Bulgarian language.Where do i get the base file?

Great stuff peppy!

just a suggestion,

please add a "Flemish" language,
there's a flemish person posting numerous flemish stuff under dutch, which has nothing to do with dutch and looks silly.

time to set them free like they have their own country too :)

(i am joking of course, did a lot of revisions so far, but still...)

Leeg

If you can make a Bulgarian (bg) section i would be glad to get started ^^
Timekiller
Just what the hell. "Reset permissions to osu! folders." is now translated as button caption, not as a message about succsess. It looks alike in English, but in Russian meaning shifted form "Okay, i just reset your permissions" to "Reset my permissions, nao!". And I even left a direct warning about this (the only possibility was to use my slot for alternative translation), but now it's deleted, and the wrong one is accepted - moreover, I can't mark it wrong as I have already done so. >:(

I suspect we still do need a language-specific forums inside pTransl for such issues - because people will not even notice them outside...

Yep, I'm definitely looking at adding a comment system and some better weighting in the near future. Time permissive.

For the time being, you can bring up any particularly bad cases with me and I'll alter the ratings.
Timekiller
Ok, roger that :D

The "comment-discussion block for each original line" would probably be the the best solution. Should be not that difficult to implement, as there is no need to allow neither editing nor deletion of comments, user system is already up and running, and I believe original lines are already enumerated, so additional db table for every language should pretty much do the deal.

English> " Remove from unplayed "
Spanish> " Remover de "No Jugados" "
^ Translation- English> " Stir from unplayed " wtf?!?!

It should be:" Marcar como jugado " or something like this, but PEOPLE still votes translations taking into account how literally the translation has been done and IT'S RIDICULOUS.

Another case:

English> " Master "
Spanish> " Maestro "
^Translation-English> " Teacher " ... what the?!

It should be "General" or "Principal", because it's related to the "master audio" of osu!, but what happens? people do not watch CONTEXT, they just translate literally what they see without looking for where the text is inside the game!!!

And another one...

English>"Gives osu! read/write access to its own folders (useful in Vista when UAC is enabled)nMay take a while."
>Spanish> "Otorga a osu! acceso de lectura y escritura a sus propias carpetas (útil en Vista y 7 cuando UAC está activado).nPodría tomar un rato."

Perfect literally: access= acceso, sure the one who did this knows English, yeah... ._. Come on, have you ever used windows in spanish guy!? is it ACCESO de escritura y lectura? or is it... PERMISO (permission)?... And you DO NOT SAY "podría tomar un rato" , another "perfect literally" translation from "take a while" = "tomar un rato" wtf... seriously I'm going to give up if I read more things like that... DO NOT TRANSLATE LITERALLY WE DON'T USE THAT IDIOMATIC EXPRESSION LIKE THIS. We'd say "podría tardar un rato", yeah "tardar" means "spent" but that's because in SPANISH we use that verb, and not "tomar" (take), people take things, "un rato" (a while) can not "tomar" (take) time!

Since I'm English-Spanish Translation Student today i joined pTransl to practice and stuff, and as I started reading I noticed A LOT of mistakes in Spanish translations, as Leeg said, most of them are literally also they used expressions wich aren't used in Spanish. And I've been voting down lots of wrong translations D;

This one made my eyes bleed (and is an accepted one) "¡Haz clic en el icono del globo para conectarte en línea! / Click the globe icon to go online!"
In this case "conectarte en línea" it's like a redundancy, I've never seen that expression before.

Well there're also some local differences like video/vídeo, the last one is used only in Spain, so if osu! will be translated as neutral as possible I think It'll be better to use "video" without the stress.

(wouldn't be better to make a new topic in Spanish forum to discuss this properly? )
Leeg
Oh, ah forgot how I loled when I read: "Acceso rápido en línea a este beatmap". lol... literally sucks. That button opens you a window to the web page of that beatmap, so WHY JUST DON'T SAY THAT? I mean, is "Acceder a la página web de este beatmap" or something like this, but not "acceso rápido en línea" that seems to be a new technological product or anything else lol...

And look for "éste se seleccionará al cabo de un breve istante"

L-O-L an hyperbaton? how nice... now we have poetry here in osu #spanish. "breve instante" is like saying in english "short instant"... an "instant" is short by definition lol... saying such things is ridiculous...

BTW, now that you say that about studies Asenath, I'm 2nd year English Philology Student in Spanish university of Valencia.
