really depends, using your ears can be really helpful if sound quality and timing is decent, but playing without sound and getting decent accuracy is theoretically possible and some people use eyes to get good acc on high OD songs that are poorly timed.

I can't hit accurately without audio, especially in Taiko and !standard.
In !mania, though, this can be mitigated by increasing the scroll speed.

I use part of my body (usually leg or head) as a metronome.
Leg tapping on the floor to bpm unconsciously happens but mainly eyes, only use ears for shit like the end of taiko time ;w;
I don't quite play Taiko at as high of a level as I do for mania, but I suffer big time in acc if a map's not synced properly; definitely an aural/audio player.

Depends on what mods I'm using.
I usually use eyes the most when I'm playing HR because it's much easier to tell when to hit once you determine the exact position where you need to hit the notes to get 300s. Otherwise, I use ears when I'm playing HD, FL and it's combinations with other mods where listening closely to the rhythm of the song helps the most.

It's generally pretty easy to tell if a map is timed out correctly or not. So of course, eyes for the poor maps and ears for the good ones.
It honestly depends on the song. If the song has a more predictable Rythmn I use my ears but if the song has strange slow downs & speed ups I have to use my eyes
