Hello people,

I am [ Yui ]/dudemonkey61 and I would like to present to you my first of hopefully multiple “Adopt a” tournaments. What is an “Adopt a” tournament you ask, well let me explain it to you. There is a lot to this, but please read it as I will not answer questions that are directly stated below. I will also be taking in feedback on how to improve this, so if you have an idea bring it up I am all ears as long as it is constructive. This tournament won't be going on for a while most likely, but please sign up anyways because the more interest means the better the chance of it happening.

BIG SUPER IMPORTANT UPDATE:

This is about the amount of players in the tournament. I am stupid from not saying this in the beginning of me posting the tournament, but better late than never. THE TOURNAMENT FILLS TO THE LOWEST POWER OF 2 OF A RANK RANGE. This means that if there are 17 1-1k players and 72 in a range the total teams will be 16 and 16 only.

THIS NEXT PART IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AND TOTALLY DEBATABLE DO NOT TAKE THIS AS THE FINAL DECISION PLEASE: I will be randomly placing each player that has signed up into a team up to the team cap meaning that if we only get 16 players in total the other players that did not make it will be put on a waiting list and will be contacted when needed if a player leaves the tournament, their rank range, or does not communicate. (Their is probably more, but you get it) SO DO NOT BREAK CONTACT IF YOU ARE NOT CHOSEN. There will most likely be ample opportunity for those who don't make it to actually be in the tournament IF THEY COMMUNICATE. (Sorry about caps, but this stuff is super important)

If I was to make a request, could we not make the maps at lower skillsets slow, boring maps?
Too many times have tournaments been played at 20-40k or similar with 3.5-4* mapsets.

Trust me nothing like that will happen. The maps will be catered to skill possibility meaning that people of a certain rank will be playing maps that challenge them and with the opportunity to show skill. I will be in charge of the final decision, but the creation is based on the map selectors.

Most likely Mid or Early July. I am currently setting up staff and looking at the early registrations and will decide what happens based on feedback and everything like that, so it may take time to get it started, but I think this will overall be really fun for everyone

Question, what's with the top rank range?

The gap between the lowest end of that bracket and the highest end is just too much, making it kind of unfair for the players on the lower end of the bracket (say I join and face off against the rank 600 player, for example). Is there anything that can be done about that?

This then leads you to wonder how I am going to balance it, so that the matches are fair. I decided to do a swapping format of players where each rank range will have their own map pool. This means that for each map they captain will choose a player to play and the map they are going to play. The captain must involve all of their players before they can use the same player again. So the reason for the rank range currently is the fact that I was not sure what type of response I would get and whether or not people would sign up, so I kept the ranges kind of large just to compensate lack of participation. I honestly don't expect to get anyone over rank 100, but if it happens it happens. The solution was to make the rank range rather large for that section. I even put down that the rank ranges are subject to change specifically for this reason. I am trying to get the perfect balance down, but my lack of knowledge of the upper tiers makes it a bit difficult. If everyone in Osu! all the sudden signed up then it would be pretty easy to just get a random bunch from certain categories together, but alas most of the community probably doesn't even know these forums exist/care that a random rank 32k is setting up a tournament. I don't plan to start this tournament to quickly because of this fact and by delaying it I can easily come up with better plans. So don't worry about the rank ranges just yet they are just place holders for now. I will fix them if I need to and thanks for the feedback because I honestly don't know the rank range difference and need to take it into account, but sign the sign ups are so small I currently can't do much yet.

Oh I see the problem now
I actually considered this when I was reading the rules
"What if the team consist of players with lower end of their brackets in every bracket?"
and then I tried to think of everything they could do to win
My best result was to have the weakest player to play against the strongest player (rank 100k against 4 digit rank) and all other remaining players play in a pool that's 1 rank bracket lower than them (like rank 19k playing in rank 20k~40k mappool, 9k playing in 10k~20k mappool, etc), which place them in upper hand for most of the matches, which is not against the rules (not for now)
IMO, in the end it still ends up on how well the organizer and the staff manage the team balancing I guess.

Thanks for the early responses so far everyone I am glad that there are so many people interested. I will be doing an update here soon with staff placements and stuff like that so stay active. Okay MAJOR UPDATE. Registration will be ending on July 15th as this gives me plenty of time to make sure everything is set up properly and ready to go for the tournament. I do not have an official date of when it will start, but most likely it will start on July 23rd once the teams are announced on the 16 or 17th of July. Why July? because I really need to make sure this is properly planned and goes well for everyone involved, so I am giving everyone ample opportunity to be ready and prepare.

I am also still looking for some staff, which is listed at the top of the forum. Please pm me if you are interested and all map selectors will not be able to participate in the tournament itself.

If you have any questions please feel the need to ask at any point in time.

I will probably have more updates soon so stay tuned.
