Why do people play this game so seriously

There's no benefit to anything in life - why take anything seriously when you can just sit around and do nothing then waste away into ash?

I like improvement - it gives me satisfaction and that's enjoyable. Shouldn't you want to enjoy things? Or are you one of those people who use the excuse of not taking anything seriously to excuse yourself out of anything because you're incredibly depressed.

Some people just have far too much money to spend and/or enjoy their games more when they play them seriously. The reason/s as to why some people take something seriously varies from person to person.

Nowadays I just play osu! for fun, I get kind of serious sometimes when I really want to get that full combo but that's about it. Even if playing seriously was profitable, I probably wouldn't go into it - it seems far too stressful, I'd rather play osu! as a way to relax.

you do everything because you enjoy it, hopefully. if you think a good osu! player is worthless just because he doesn't earn money, that's honestly ridiculous, and to be fair that's the only difference between any competitive game you can earn money from, people act as if anything that doesn't get you money and fame is worthless...why make more money than you need if you enjoy life more without working for that money? keep in mind some people are lucky enough to have the option of choosing what to do in their life, don't blame them for doing something they enjoy.
I seriously didn't want to make a good answer to this thread but looks like someone did it for me.

I'm kinda just copying a point already made though.

In any hell hole of a game there is always going to be a guy that plays it casually and the guy that gets seriously into it.

Why do people play games seriously in general? Because in any hobby there are always going to be people who get very interested.

I spent money on this game for a tablet and a better keyboard so I can get better, even though there is no chance of me making money or anything, but trying to become the best in osu! is a good feeling.

Well OT was a different kind of circlejerk back in 2010-2012.

I got banned because I had written a relatively explicit fanfiction on the site about Ritsu carrying Mio's child.

I forget what happens but mio dies and i think someone is a drug addict and animask wrote a side-fanfic about it
