The confederate flag has no actual meaning to it, but it's because of the people that stood under it is why it gets so much controversy around it. It defined the South as a nation. The Union had a flag so why couldn't the South?
The flag that people get so uptight over isn't even any of the actual three confederate flags, it's actually the battle flag that was for the Army of Tennessee, as well as it being the second confederate Navy Jack. The closest flag to the 'confederate flag' that most people know are the second and third designs of the flag, but those only had a similar symbol as the flag in the corner, and had otherwise a completely white flag, which was the 'stainless' version, and a while flag with a red stripe, being the 'blood-stained' version. The second and third flags were created as a result of the Civil War.
If people want to wear the confederate flag or fly one around then let them. It's not their fault if someone gets their ass in a bunch and feels offended.
