Title is self explanatory. Basically, when active the mod would play a metronome similar to the one in edit mode (but hopefully less annoying ;D) to help early players with their timing. The metronome should probably tick every 1/2 of a beat (or every 1/4 of a beat for very low bpm songs) and take off around .30x from your score. It might also need to have some form of visual representation.
I'm mainly suggesting this for four reasons. First, this could help players get a feel for the "window" for that perfect 300. Second, there are only 3 easy mods as is and this was one of the few ways I could see of making another one. Third, this would help players time beatmaps with lots of downtime (like Easy/Normal difficulties). And finally, I would really like to come up with a decent suggestion for a change ;D.
Also, as a bonus, it would be nice if the metronome sound effect was skin-able, so that players could replace the regular sound with techno beats or some nonsense like that.
Question: Why not make the metronome mod unrankable?
I'm going to oppose any and all posts suggesting that the mod should be unranked, and here's why. When I say that the metronome mod should be an "Easy Mod," I mean that it should fit in with Easy, Nofail, and Halftime. These mods exist so that players can play a more difficult beatmap and complete it with some form of satisfaction, without threatening more experienced players' scores. "Yay! I beat this 15 million point song with a million points! I'm so happy, I'm going to eat some cheese and play this game some more!"
Question: What if a beatmap follows an unusual time signature or changes time signature during the beatmap?
The metronome doesn't necessarily have to follow a 4/4 measure or even a 3/4 measure. It could adapt simularly to the edit mode metronome.
Question: Why can't you just use a metronome program on your computer?
Cited from awp: "this is not only a convenience thing, but would be calibrated to changing offsets, which is something you could STILL do via your computer but would involve a lot of hassle that most people aren't interested in working through" (page 1, post 10).
