I believe peppy is asking for you to buy one and send it to him. He'll cover the costs for that.

That looks really cool. But am i wrong or 750 rmb are about $120 usd ? If so that is quite a lot.
Kaeru
Yup, that price is definitely $120 USD. I have no idea why it's so expensive.. you can get a full mechanical keyboard for cheaper. I'm curious about this also, so I'll try and see if I can find another company that manufactures these things.

They said its out of stock, the price will be changed back to 75 when it's in stock

Oh. That's actually really good then.! Sign me up! I'm looking forward to trying one out. If someone does get one, please make a review on it.

I was actually asking if you could get me in contact with the seller so I can see how we can make this happen at larger scale :D.

That's an interesting way of locking thread lol (unless some tuhao's willing to pay 750RMB for it)

In china, such keyboard has been made for about 3 years(maybe 4 years?I really do not remember it).And the technology and the material to make such keyboard was open freely to everyone by the first maker .So everyone can make it by himself. In fact, some player exactly do it in a small scale.
The keyboard mentioned above is one of them.

I have known that at least 3 people in China are working on this project.
We call it "Chu pan".
In fact ,the price of this one (item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=38310384006) is about ¥70.
Here are the posts of this project.
http://tieba.baidu.com/p/2895874045
http://tieba.baidu.com/p/2904779393

And destiny_HC also designed one and this keyboard was firstly put into actual production.

Lovely keyboards,I want one,too. :D

Some thoughts if this is to be done officially:

different switches:
Will there be different versions, or a bigger version with rows of all switches, or a pack with included switches (and a guide on how to solder, hue), or all of these?

other modes:
Will they be ignored and only 2-key-pads be made? Or maybe at least 4 keys, so you can play CtB, 4k and Taiko on it and buy a second one if you want to play 8k?

difficulties:
- They have to have a good standing on the table, if they're unstable it would be horrible
- The price still has to be acceptable of course. If it comes closer to a full keyboard, then the pad has to have it's own merits (besides being transportable)

I'd buy around 1-3 depending on what it ends up as and on the top of my head I can think of one or two more people who might be interested. Please do not give up on making something like this!

hmm i think there are still cheap numpads already *..* but yeah if the effort is money and time worth ... why not *..*

multi mode keyboard tada

it looks like shit but can be re-designed to be very amazing

it should have NKRO enabled and switches of choice

wut, you don't need that many keys for all modes, you can play Taiko, CtB and standard on the mania buttons too.

I don't even. Don't add extra keys that are unnecessary. Standard people can use two keys in the rows above without trouble. Even my layout has one unnecessary key, since just eight would be enough, but then you'd have to click the former-space-key in 7k with a different finger and it would probably mess everything up.

if the second key is long (like a spacebar) it'd be possible to be used with both thumbs.

I am for a osu keyboard, but the keyboard have to be useful in all gamemodes and it should be use for all players. Specially in ctb are some 1-hand-player like me :D

Why not just make it look like a standard gaming keyboard, So that we can use the osu! Keyboard for other games

I think then it would lose its principal of "osu keyboard" and defeat its purpose. You'd probably want a regular keyboard which you can use on anything ^^
Kyroh_old
Would be interesting to see. I'd buy it :) Although idk if it'd be very profitable

I think it would be best to just make the 4k's in this layout, with both left and right-handed versions, and if somebody wanted to play 8k then they'd just buy one of each.
I Give Up
I hope these things would come with a lead weight or quality feet because this thing looks like it could slide around during jump circles. Especially with the way some of us osu players play (button mash like a mad man).

Tut.

1. Get a keyboard
2. Be sure, it has mx switches!
3. Take a saw
4. Be a man.
?????????

Naah but, really! that's a nice thing! I would buy it right away! :)

Perhaps the fact that it's so easy to make could be another reason it should be made?

Cool idea, but I feel like using a bit more money for a full sized keyboard would be better.
Just my thought.
Tollyx
You guys just gave me an pretty awesome idea.
It works surprisingly well and feels really nice to play with, the only thing is that the fightstick is huge and the buttons is a little more apart than what you're used to.

I guess that means I might build my own arcade osu!controller thing in the future when I have the money.
Italo
I really think that "osu!" keyboard needs only 2 keys, would be really cheap and really nice to see a 2k kb
myy
Instead of a keyboard with only 2 keys for osu!standard, how about a keyboard for all gamemodes?

Something like this;

I think this would cost around 20$.
Lorenzo
heethoofd27
Why not have two versions. One with the 9 key layout for all of the gamemodes and one with just the two keys for the osu standard mode and sell it for a bit less.

Has anyone gotten this: ? http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a23 ... s=1#detail

I am trying to get one, but im not sure if they are mechanical switches / and what color switches.
I know you can choose the (decorative) color of the key caps when you order. But other than that I don't get much after google translating the site.
Do they ship anywhere in the world? And can you pay with any credit card?

It looks like blue mechanical switches in this picture however, after searching google for this 五脚轴 it seems that they aren't official cherry mx switches but some other kind of mechanical switch (maybe kailh?) http://gd1.alicdn.com/imgextra/i1/1895821576/T2Vcp3X18XXXXXXXXX_!!1895821576.jpg

nonono 五脚轴 is basically Chinese for "5-legged switch" (轴 means "axis" which is used to describe the switch), which is different from a 三脚轴 (3-legged switch) which has the additional 2 supportive legs removed. This is better illustrated by this post: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/2485721339 (in Chinese; see the last pic of OP)

I need this because my keyboard is to long.

There are some DIY kits I've seen online, this doesn't have a case or buttons but has full functionality. I suppose having them pre-assembled with a case would work.

With that particular one you have to reprogram it though. It also isn't available in Europe if I remember corectly.

well, usually github has the code you need for most of the work here..

unless you check out stuff by adafruit or sparkfun... just gotta order the switches, the controller and the casing last time I saw one. Most of their microcontrrollers are Arduino-based (thank god)
heethoofd27
I might even pick one up and try it. After looking through the techkeys.us website I found out that they do ship to Europe. Including shipping, switches, keycaps and the board ofcourse will cost me $30. That's pretty good in my opinion. I can also probably ask my dad to help with making a case for it out of wood or something. This seems like a nice project to try my soldering and electronics skills on, since it doesn't involve a lot of soldering.

I like the idea of an osu! keyboard but as I have mentioned in the past, Cherry MX switches are made for typing, not to withstand the force of a 240 BPM beatmap play. Arcade microswitches are, and those should be used instead. Only problem with arcade microswitches is that I don't think they have any sort of tactile feedback like blue/brown/clears have, but they make up for it by being much more precise.

Well, they're made to withstand 50(linear) or 30(tactile and clicky) milion keystrokes, so I'd say they should last quite a while. Besides, if the pad would use PCB mounts then you could pop open the switch and replace the insides with new ones without any soldering.

30-50 million normal keystrokes, but not this. In any case, replacing them should be trivial like you said, so it is indeed not much of an issue, but I overall I would have preferred it if the effort was put into using arcade parts instead.

No one would try singletapping 440 BPM on them. So that's not an issue.

making a proper keyboard like this would be difficult as it requires consideration for all game modes which means putting in at least 10 keys to suit osumanias future change plans, there is also the option to make a regular keyboard with osu branding, the main issue tho is that you would have to create all 4 types of switchs plus the laptop sisscor switchs without key rollover trolling. this isnt too difficult but from the manufacturing side, the buyers might not be enough to make production in this product worthwhile, otherwise i would totally request a rubber dome, scissor switch keyboard with n key rollover~~ or at least 10kro

I agree here. It'd need to be usable for all game modes and that would be a waste for majority of players who don't play all the modes. If they have separate keyboards for each game mode it'd be too expensive to manufacture.
PyaKura
I said that as a joke, my current keyboard already fill my needs. I know it's not really worth it to make different keyboards since not everyone are gonna buy them. That said I wonder how many osu!tablets have been sold up until now.

On another note, if there's an osu! themed Huion 420 for sale... Isn't it also more logical to encourage both playstyles by offering an osu! themed mouse?? Namely the Logitech G100s?

The reason for selling osu!tablets was to make tablet gaming affordable to more people, not to encourage tablet > mouse.

Mouse on the other hand is rather easy to obtain for most people, so there's little reason for osu!mouse =.=

This topic looks at the possibility to make (mini) mech keyboards, which is not an affordable item to everyone.
