Songs have different instruments, so beatcircles can be timed in different ways, to the melody, the beat, or if there're vocals, perhaps even to the vocals.

So I thought -and I'm bad at thinking, so this is probably the worst idea ever-, why not have some kind of co-op that allows for friends to play a map like that. Each of them gets 'assigned' one instrument, or basically one 'layer' of circles.

Of course this'd require a special mode in the editor and such maps could only be played "one instrument at a time", or only in multiplayer, but I dunno, seemed like a funny idea. Nothing serious though, but I just wanted to see what the community'd think about it.

The f- are you saying?
I bet you know guitar hero, basically if you hook up different controllers ('instruments') to the game you can play the
instruments in the songs with friends, for ex. you playing the guitar and your friend(s) playing the drums or whatever.

Basically this, but in osu, and with circles and clicking, or perhaps even taiko/osu!/osu!mania hybrid, that'd be even cooler,
but let's keep it simple for now.

t/202089 is the closest to what you'll get.

Although I like the idea of each player "taking" one instrument, it'll require special mapping and I vaguely recall seeing threads like that in the past.

It might work out better in your head than in game, especially with the current music base in osu!

If you've ever mapped or tried to look into what maps generally follow, it's usually a mix between vocal, drums, and guitar (and whatever other background noise that randomly appears). If one were to truly and strictly map to one "instrument," first certain important sounds that don't belong in any group would be left out (but putting it into one group also seems unreasonable). Also, you will probably end up with massive breaks or very end up mapping to an almost inaudible sound at certain points. And if you truly and strictly map to an instrument, often times you will be mapping to eighth notes for like a quarter of the song (in j-pop songs the orchestral synth sounds or the guitar generally do this unless they have some solo) unless you are vocals (but vocals ends up having massive break times). I just find this thing becoming very boring for certain people, unless you overmap or decide to map your own beat that is not genuinely following the music.

Alternatively, you can just suggest what if we just had a co-op that didn't require one to strictly follow one instrument. However, this is essentially just making two separate beatmaps. To appeal to the very few cases where this might work out well, this is not really worth it or necessary imo.
