What he's saying is that German cars are fast because of their 8+ cylinders, turbochargers, superchargers, etc., while Japanese cars are fast due more to their light body weight, so they can go super fast with only a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo) or turbocharged 6-cylinder engine (Nissan GT-R).

Japanese cars are overall way more durable than any other really (apart from Korean, based Kia). I have a Suzuki Wagon R+ from 2001 and it is still completely fine. My family bought an Opel (granted that's the worst brand from Germany you could have) Zafira in 2004, shit broke in 3 years.

While this is only my personal experience, studies prove this, and companies actually give their cars a 5-year warranty which is a thing european manufacturers don't do.

From what little contact i had(a friend has japanese grandparents, he came to visit one time) they're quite shy, stay to themselves and all.
They seem to have an incredible ability of focusing on something, it's quite a sight.
A bit xenophobic, but here on brazil we are way too 'happy gogo'.
So maybe a bit of inter-communication with brazil woud be good, brazil could learn a thing or too(like when to shut up, or more seriously, that study is serious business, and not punishment from god).

The question is pretty complicated because it relates to ideologies of Japan and what people are experiencing as they grow up. I feel kind of uncomfortable saying that I like or dislike people because of that. A somewhat extreme example: human rights in Nigeria are appalling, so people brought up there soak up those values; I wouldn't say that I dislike Nigerian people by default because of that. I suppose the issue I have with the question having the implication of tying culture and heritage directly to individuals.

That being said, I don't have any Japanese friends, I can't speak Japanese competently and I have never been to Japan, though I imagine this is true for most people in the thread. Anything I see from Japan is second hand, so largely entertainment media and news coverage, so not exactly extremely reliable. An issue I imagine a lot of Westerners would take with Japan is to do with how harsh the law is on recreational drug use, cannabis being the main offender. Imprisonment/deporture for that is obscene. Some quick research also found that the antidepressant I take (which has been extremely helpful and without the side-effects I got from fluoxetine) has only been approved for use in Japan since 2011 despite being approved since 2002 in the US, so I would be kind of worried about medicine in general in Japan.

I also love gaymers.

My experience with Japanese people are kind of polarised and you may find it hard to believe. I'll say it anyway since imo one learns more from analysing negative comments rather than compliments.

A huge number of Japanese students I met in Australia dislikes social interactions with people of other Asian cultures; some are so extreme that they even refuse to talk to other Asians in the same class. I don't know if that can be called "conservative" anymore but it's not quite racist (except a few extreme examples).

Having said that, I know a small number of Japanese people who really enjoys mingling with everyone and they're great friends too. So it's like seeing two extremes with nothing in the middle...

EDIT: Forgot to add that through my observation, Japanese people are generally very polite towards white people (some to the extend of showing fear). So if you're of Caucasian appearance then chances are you'll never encounter any "rude" Japanese lol

I had an Japanese exchange student staying over at my house for 3 nights during 2011
It was fun and nice taking him around
He was very polite and a lot of simple things seem to amaze him in our country @.@ (I guess this applies to any person travelling to a foreign country)
I still remember him panicking over a house fly that might be just a little bigger than average over here

I was realised by how he was so good at bargaining for prices even though he doesn't speak English/Malay/Chinese ^^"

I also have a few notable Japanese friends on osu! who can speak very good English

Back to the topic, My impression about Japanese here in game that I know are...frankly, feel pretty much just like any Japanese anime-obsessed players from anywhere else. (but definitely have more intelligence, more rational than your average Taiwanese in some way for sure) Don't know about them in real life though.

Kawaii, and pretty shy and fragile. My friend Yui (she's an exchange student) usually doesn't talk much, but it's cause she's pretty quiet and doesn't really know English much. I also find the Japanese to be extremely polite.

On topic: Of the people I personally have talked to I doubt there's much of a difference in human behavior compared to the average otaku in any other modern country. I don't see how that would come as a surprise either, They are the same as you but with a different history.

I also like how they have and preserve their unique culture. Though on the other hand, they do seem somewhat xenophobic, insular and ignorant of foreigners and other cultures. For example the 'no gaijin' signs on some shops there, and some landlords not allowing and foreigners to rent their units. While this can be understandable to some degree, because there are some ignorant gaijin a**holes in Japan taking advantage of Japanese kindness while wilfully not bothering to follow their customs, generalising and stereotyping is never the right thing to do.

I like Japanese people. At places like a gas station, they're happy to clean your windows and fill your tank while you sit in your car.

I was just looking through this thread and I wanted to ask you guys if you actually had enough experience with Japanese people to actually formulate an opinion on them. My bet is that most of you did not, because what I've seen so far are stereotypes, really. And anime doesn't count, of course.
