Talonflame isn't really a sweeper. Much more of a "Finish off certain things that have like +5238 speed"-er.
NaomiMinette
I didn't say it was a sweeper.

Jinxy
That's called a revenge killer. However, Talonflame can sweep really well late-game once all its checks/counters are gone, and the field is clean of stealth rocks.

I love it when some guy uses Talonflame without rapid spin support and it switches in with half its health gone.

The definite meaning of a kamikaze Pokémon, since Brave Bird and Flare Blitz are probably its best moves (because of STAB). Not entirely necessary moves for it but it'll have a hard time taking down fairly bulky opponents.
If you can keep up the momentum with it you'll take down quite a few Pokémon and make it faint itself because of recoil (unless you somehow pull off a Roost without being K.O'd after using it).

Though it can be used to set up Tailwind for itself or slower Pokémon I guess.

bit OT here, but Professor Prinny, that signature, i approve <3
Shirotaku
I agree with Prof Prinny
Talonflame can either be a kamikaze sweeper or a really good speed support in double battle or a revenge killer
also I'm trying a new set on Talonflame with bulk up, roost, flame charge and acrobatics

Here's a question,
What do you guys think, a Gengar with Life Orb or Choice Specs ?
bmin11
You should be okay using Brave Bird instead of Acrobatics if you are running Roost.

Life Orb seems pretty common on Genger, but I'm not too sure with Choice Specs. Seems like it would be hindering his mix attack move pool, but if you need him to hit as hard as he can, why not I guess?

A few damage calcs to get an idea of how each item affects damage:
252 SpA Life Orb Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp: 196-231 (54.9 - 64.7%)
252 SpA Choice Specs Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp: 225-265 (63 - 74.2%)
252 SpA Mega Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp: 184-217 (51.5 - 60.7%)

I'd say Mega Gengar is almost strictly better than Life Orb unless you want the little bit of extra damage, are using another mega pokemon, or want Levitate over Shadow Tag.

Choice Specs is a no-no on Gengar since it's not that fast. There are a lot of better Pokemon to slap specs on such as Jolteon or Noivern with the latter having access to Switcheroo possibly crippling an opposing Pokemon with a Choice item.
Snepif
Isn't Mega Gengar like almost uber-level?
NaomiMinette
So I did that stacking writs thing for Battle Chateau someone mentioned a while back... It's so weird seeing AND battling the same Elite Four member literally within minutes after beating them the first time.

Yeah, Le Wow is pretty much dead when you hit Duke/Grand Duke in Battle Chateau as the money you pay for the writs will be earned within a few battles and then sack in the profits.
Not to mention that the Furisode Girls give an huge amount of EXP since they're carrying 3x Audinos all the time, it's an all-inclusive battle arena for all your needs.
NaomiMinette
Not true. Some still hold only two Audino and are lower-leveled than the girls who have three of them.
Snepif
Considering running Mega Charizard Y, specially because people assume you have X mega-evo. Is he any good?
Jinxy
Actually, I see Y much more recently. It's pretty killer with sun boosted Fire Blast and 1-turn Solarbeam.
mathexpert
Mega Charizard Y is pretty good most of the time, but I always get a kick out of seeing
charizard mega evolves first (it's faster) > drought
my tyranitar mega evolves > sandstorm

and then I get a free turn from their solarbeam :D
Snepif
Big thanks to Jinxy for the Mawile :)

On-topic: Yeah, his main attraction is that 1-turn solar beam. It's a bit crazy since you have both fire and grass moves. Great coverage. But then again that Tyranitar might be a reaaaaally smart counter.

Charizard can learn Focus Blast which is guaranteed OHKO any Tyranitar set except 252/252 Careful + Assault Vest. But that accuracy ;_;

If he switches in to Solar Beam and you have Stealth Rock + 3 layer Spikes support then it's guaranteed OHKO against Tyranitar without HP/SpD invested:
252+ SpA Mega Charizard Y Solar Beam vs. +1 4 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar: 224-264 (65.4 - 77.1%)

Timid nature = ~30% chance T-Tar won't die to Solar Beam + Rocks + 3 Spikes:
252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Solar Beam vs. +1 4 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar: 204-240 (59.6 - 70.1%)

However if you switch Charizard into Tyranitar you can likely OHKO it with Solar Beam since it loses it's +1 from Sand:
252+ SpA Mega Charizard Y Solar Beam vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar: 334-394 (97.6 - 115.2%) Guaranteed OHKO with Rocks or Spikes.

Carry Focus Blast or run hazards and most Tyranitars shouldn't be a problem.
Shirotaku
well the reason I'm thinking about acrobatics is because with no item the power is around 110 and no recoil.
Brave Bird is 120 so I think dropping the power by 10 wont hurt. With bulk up the Talonflame should be able to stay in for a long time.

Btw if anyone can help me get a Kingdra with Sniper ability please tell me
I got some good Ferrothorn, Kangaskahn and Maril to trade or if you want other just tell me :3

I have one inside a stylish dive-ball~ I mean it's a Seadra but you can evolve it. We can evolve it by trading, even.

finally got a shiny o/
just a Relicanth though
Young Link 4
Hey, Relicanth is pretty cool. At least it can do something like surf and headbutt. Better than some random Spinarak. I'm starting to think, I'm the only one who hasn't met a shiny in x/y yet.
NaomiMinette
1) PokéRadar chaining
2) Consecutive fishing (fish chaining)
3) Horde battles
4) Friend Safaris (they're essentially maxed out PokéRadar chains)

Just try one (or even all) of these and you'll eventually one into a shiny :)

i find using the PokéRadar too hard. keep breaking chain :(
NaomiMinette
I've really only done #4 on my list. The only problem is (obviously) the limited amount of Pokémon you find in a Friend Safari, even if you have access to all of them.

Granted, the other three are also limited, still...
Snepif
But they have some nice IVs so it's cool! Also, I get any friend codes for any safari I want using the Safari Reddit:

http://www.reddit.com/r/friendsafari/

You should try it out if you haven't already. Every time I need a safari mon I just got there, search 2 minutes and trade codes.
NaomiMinette
Too bad I'm not a fan of reddit.
Snepif
Well I'm not a fan either and the interface is kinda messy, but it's useful as hell if you need safari pokemon!
Elly-chan
hello i am here

i'm only at the second gym because i just got the game a week ago and i've been playing fire emblem: awakening instead but hella

i feel you man. pokeradar chaining in my opinion is the most stressful one of all
NaomiMinette
I couldn't even chain high enough in Gen IV, so I pretty much gave up this Gen ._. In other news:

Pokémon X & Y - 2DS Bundles

Previously announced for Europe, it has been confirmed that the Pokémon X & Y 2DS bundles are also coming to North America. These bundles, released on December 6th, retail for $150 and come with Pokémon X or Pokémon Y pre-installed onto them. The Pokémon X bundle with the White/Red 2DS is exclusive to Target while the Pokémon Y bundle with the Black/Blue 3DS is exclusive to Toys 'R' Us. As with Europe, the actual 2DS hardware lacks any special aesthetic feature, and is just a standard 2DS with the game installed.
WHY IS X GOING WITH THE RED ONE AND Y GOING WITH THE BLUE ONE?!?!

Hmmm talking about 2DS, I don't use the 3D mode 90% of the time because my FPS drop quite a lot in the upper screen. Does this happen to you as well guys?
Azure_Kite
Yes, The Polycount for a lot of the models makes the GPU chug like nobody's business. Charizard X's Model among others are known to cause the Framerate to drop.

Try getting into a Hoard of Trevenant in Route 20. Your 3DS will slow down to about 5-6 fps.
Snepif
Yeah, hordes make them drop as well, let alone hordes + 3D mode, it would be madness.
Hopefully future pokémon games are better optimized? It's still hella fun without the 3D mode though.
Azure_Kite
3D mode is disabled for Hordes for exactly the fact that it would make the game soft-lock or run at <1fps.

Double, Triple, and Rotation battles as well.
