Have two chat columns?

Not sure how I should format this but I thought it would be nice to have 2 chat boxes open next to eachother so you don't have to constantly switch back and forth. School was closed today so I decided to make a little demo thingy in photoshop to better explain what I'm thinking.

Will be handy for wide screen users. Most chat messages are short anyway so it should work quite well.

I don't see special thing of this. You can change other channel to chat. Why do u need 2 columns??

Yeah, theres IRC for that, its definitely convinient if you dont IRC and prefer to chat via osu!client but yeah..

I've never used two chat columns in IRC clients and I already find OP's screenshot confusing. I mean, how can #lobby be opened twice? How do you open a chat tab in the second panel since there is no +Channels tab? (I suppose this can be done by dragging the tab from the first panel, but then #lobby wouldn't be opened twice I guess)

If I am already confused, plenty of people will be either so no support.

I think it's confusing due to bad example given in the OP; however I like the idea of putting the empty space to use though.

Since the OP has not spoken for a while, what about this for alternative: have all official channel tabs on the left column and use the right half for pm only? As a wide screen user I rarely see any chat lines exceed the centreline of my screen anyway, so the right half of the chat section is practically wasted. Having 2 columns puts that space to use.

lobby is open twice because I just used photoshop to copy what was in it and forgot to close it. Realistically you won't have 2 of the same chat open

Ive started using an IRC client and can see why some people think its fairly useless but it would still be convenient to have the option to have two chats open at the same time.

Oh ok, I get it now. Still thinking that it could be confusing for people that don't have any experience with an IRC client.

Regarding the buttons on the lower right. It seems on the way whenever typing on the second column.

I don't really have time to say much right now but I personally think this is a good idea. Like, to those who said "get an irc client", I do have an irc client, I do two chats side-by-side all the time, and I think it's really nice so it would work well in osu!. Why the hell not? It's a lot more convenient than having to switch between all the chats all the time, and the space is almost never used anyways currently (unless you're me). Implementation could be improved from op's suggestions though. Support + star from me.

I find the idea not that bad. I see some users see it not necessary, so there should be an option to decide between one or two columns by yourself.

Sometimes people type too long in a line, I assume the text would be wrapped? Though that could make things confusing sometimes.
