<h1>How to start playing your favourite songs!</h1>
<table border=1>
<tr><td>
<h1>Step 1 - Find the song!</h1>
Finding beatmaps for songs is super easy! You can find every submited beatmap <a href="http://osu.ppy.sh/p/beatmaplist"><b>here</b></a>. You can type anything related to your search: song's name, artist's name, album's name, even the genre! For this example we'll try find "Coldplay - Don't Let It Break Your Heart"<br>
<br><center><img src="http://puu.sh/2FmYT.png"</img></center><br>
<hr>
<h1>Step 2 - Download it!</h1>
If there is an aproved beatmap version of the song you are looking for you should find it in the result pages. However don't be upset if your song isn't there! There are hundreads of beatmaps being submited and reviewed so your song might be on its' way!.<br>
<center><br><img src="http://puu.sh/2FmZn.png" width=580></img><br><br>Once on the beatmap's page, there should be a giant "Download Beatmap" button (you have to be signed in first).<br><b>Note:</b> It doesn't matter where you save the file as long as you can find it once the download is finished.<br><br><a href="http://osu.ppy.sh/d/41593"><img src="https://s.ppy.sh/images/osu-download-beatmap.png"></a></img><br></center><br>
<hr>
<h1>Step 3 - Load it with osu!</h1>
Once your download has finished, you should simply be able to open the beatmap .osz file. If for some reason that doesn't suit you, you might hold & drag the file into the osu! window.<br><br>
<center><img src="http://puu.sh/2FmZP.png" width=580></img></center><br>
<hr>
<h1>Step 4 - Play for fun or compete with other players!</h1>
Once opened, osu! should start up (and probably update). To start browsing your beatmap library just click the massive osu! circle in the middle, click "Play", "Solo". Your new beatmap (along with the tutorial) should be listed there. Choose the difficulty you want to play and you're off to become an osu! pro! You may also play "Multi" instead of "Solo" where players will compete in live games. You can also be part of the fun.<br><br>
<center><img src="http://puu.sh/2Fn0a.png" width=580></img><br><br>
There we go! Now you're ready to play osu! and find your favourite songs. If you're having any issues feel free to ask for help in the forums or in-game (press F8 to open chat window).<br><b>GOOD LUCK!</b></center><br>

Glad to contribute. I have no experience with wikis but I think I done a decent job converting all of that HTML into the wiki. I assume that's what you wanted? I hope it doesn't look too messy. I done a rough spelling check but I think someone else should go over and check. Now I don't know what other content you'd want there because there are some good suggestions in this thread I can try fitting most of those ideas into the page as well if no one else is willing?peppy wrote:
Good to see some activity in this thread.
You know, rather than making this html, I'm starting to think it should just be dumped on the wiki where everyone can contribute and make sure it is up-to-date. @Duboodie do you think you have port it over to https://osu.ppy.sh/wiki/Welcome? Also avoid using tables where they are not necessary at all.
Keep in mind that now the page is in wiki, you can make the change too.Marcin wrote:
You should warn players, that if there is not beatmap, for the music they like, they SHOULD NOT request a map for it.
I often see this posted by new players.
However, be careful with newly uploaded beatmaps if you really care about your accuracy! Those maps might be completely fresh and have no high scores so even if you get 60% accuracy, you might get a considerable score at cost of lowering your overall and pp's accuracy. But don't be afraid about these stats, most players don't really care about their accuracy because it will naturally increases as the player gains more experience in the game. After all, this is just a game and the main point of it is to have fun!What is this shit?
There are a lot of different calculations involved to count everyone's points, but keep one thing in mind; you get pp when you reach top 600 rank in any ranked song. In most cases, to reach a considerable top rank, you will need to full-combo a song (don't miss a single note) to get the highest score (from the combo multiplier). A player with 99% accuracy that missed one note somewhere in the middle of the song can be outscored by a player with 80% accuracy who didn't miss a single note. The score deviation (eg: 2.8 mil vs 5.0 mil) will be pretty obvious when the song is long (2 ~ 5 mins). However, you might have to apply some difficulty increasing score modifiers (like HR,HD) to get an even higher score!Top 600? Random deviation assumptions? No thank you.
They reach the welcome page after they have made an account.Can you not make an account before downloading/installing the game? Don't underestimate the amount of users signing up for an account before actually downloading the product. In many cases they will at least sign up while downloading. But it wouldn't hurt to remove those two parts (downloading/installing and logging-in). I only added them because someone was suggesting it.
Making an account requires already installing the game and logging in, so this part is probably unnecessary.
What is this shit?Probably not a serious question but I'll answer anyway. A lot of new players that I recruit complain to me that their accuracy is really low (even when they get 90%+ on easies). Correct me if I'm wrong but I assume that's because they play newly ranked maps and pass them with horrible accuracy making it into top 500? If that's incorrect then I apologize. But also I now understand that discouraging new players from playing new maps is not something you're after so I removed that part anyway.
Top 600? Random deviation assumptions? No thank you.Originally I wrote down top 500 (because that's how pp is described in the Performance Points page on wiki). But someone changed it to 600. Since I noticed that I get pp past 500 rank, and also the Accuracy wiki page mentions top 600, I thought who ever changed it knows what they're doing. I removed any specific numbers for now since I'm unsure.
Downloading and logging into the game serves as verification, instead of a lame captcha. It's incredibly effective at warding off spambots (100% effectiveness rate as far as I know)Duboodie wrote:

The number is constantly changing, it's somewhere past top 700 now IIRC and will continue to grow until all scores are accounted for. Probably best to not have specific numbers, so good job.Duboodie wrote:

Ahh thanks for telling me this. I don't remember going through this as I was signing up, but good job for whoever's idea it was to implement this. Now it makes total sense to remove those two paragraphs from the wiki and I also asked Repflez to delete the image (illustrating the login interface).MillhioreF wrote:
