New music park drum strat:
Hold your right drift into and out of the drum, release just before landing on the far side, land into a left slide. If done correctly, you should strafe to the right.

Best thing about these kartparties: the sudden drop from 1st to 8th /o/

Anyway, was fun- and rage-filled as always~ Too bad it ended shorter than usual...

I said this in Skype but you didn't hear it... I think it was probably someone one of us faced in worldwide that found us in the rivals list and said "ooh, that mii looks neat, I'll race this person again".

At least I think you can join community via rivals.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. Just covering all my bases. ~

So practicing that for next time. Tired of bombing races due to screwing up the drums. Thanks!

I'm bored. Let's play, "Rank our players!"

1. Greg (I think we can all agree on that one. STOP WINNING)
2. Blaze
3. Soap
4. Yoshi
5. CNM
6. rust
7. Ekaru (D:)
8. Gloop
9. Remmy (If he's scared of Gloop then that is *not* a good sign. MWAHAHAHAHA!)

I probably forgot somebody. Oh, if I was to put Elly in then I'd put Elly in the top 3 somewhere. Elly doesn't come on often enough for me to give Elly a ranking, though.

Oh, I forgot jj! Oops. Oh well! \o/

This is why I wish the scores wouldn't keep dropping each month... but then again some people would play whenever others aren't and so on.

I guess there's always the win/lose ratio screen, but until then... NINTENDO, MAKE A BETTER LEADERBOARD SYSTEM!

I'm not sure I'd rank you below me, but otherwise the list looks pretty good. MM is definitely the best of all of us.

I want to be in the ranking too ^^

I was being polite. In reality I'm actually tied with Soap for 3rd, but placing me like that would make me look arrogant. ;P Nah, I'm really that bad. :(

Also, I started playing on WW again. Is it just me, or do most of the people who pick Metal Mario with that overused combo not know what they are doing? It's like they just pick the combo they see used all the time in TT and copy it because they think this is Mario Kart Wii, completely forgetting that this game has different mechanics.

EDIT: Actually, I might be 4th, since I've never really seen Soap use a light character yet he still manages to have a pretty even W/L ratio with me.

Added Etiquette Rules just now, too, in hopes that we'll never have to suffer through somebody spamming Toad Circuit for like 2 hours straight again.
mm201
Ekaru: I find your play style very tenacious. I'd place you right up there with Blaze for sure.
bomber34
Btw. Who is yoshi on this list o.o ?
Soaprman
An old friend of mine from across the cyberweb. His account name here and elsewhere is Yoshi348.
NaomiMinette
Uhh... Stupid question, but do the etiquette rules only apply to Community? (AKA clarify the OP, yo!)

If you're referring to me, I don't think that was for 2 hours :?

I'll try and get into more of these now that I know what time it's at :P
NaomiMinette
Thing is, we've actually been getting 8 player kartparties recently, so there might be a chance you'll either have to wait till someone else leaves or join a separate group :(

Assuming the latter happens, we could probably still play with two groups:
  1. One Group would have to be full
  2. 9th or so person attempting to join would automatically make a 2nd group
  3. A few/Some people from the first group could tag the person in the 2nd group

My only point was that you shouldn't be picking the same course over and over and over the entire freaking time. Don't worry about it!

@pieguy: Nah, it was someone else. :D

So guys, about CNM's and Elly's funeral... :P

But seriously, poot you two >_>

I never even saw it! I can't reply to things I don't see! Repost, please.
NaomiMinette
What I removed (read this first!)
So, this is probably gonna sound extremely silly, but I thought about a way to make things a bit more interesting for our next kartparty:

For testing purposes (and to see if I'll keep this up), you'll have to try and hit me with certain items/a certain amount of items as part of challenges I'll be setting (they'll be announced before each race or so; Community races only unless we somehow get a Worldwide party with only us osu! people). For example, if I say "Try and hit me with 5 green shells within one race before it ends" (you MUST be somewhere within my touchscreen/range for it to count) and you manage to do so, you get a point. (No, I'm not letting it stack AKA you hitting me with 10 green shells for 2 points, etc. Yes, more than one person can get a point for the same challenge. Also, since I'm sure we all have different internet speeds, I'll be judging things from my screen.) The challenges, of course, will vary. Also, if any challenges involve more than one race (ex.: Try and hit me with a Blue Shell 3 times within 3 races), you'd get a point for each successful attempt. Whoever has the most points from these challenges wins!

Now, like I said before, this is just something silly I came up with, and you don't HAVE to do this. I just wanted to try something that'll probably make things a bit more competitive (and possibly more fun) even though you don't really win anything out of this. That being said, if this manages to catch on, I WILL be posting a leaderboard after each kartparty session. To keep things fair (especially for those who either couldn't join in right away or decide to leave early), a person can only have a certain max amount of points per session (which will probably vary depending on the amount of people playing/who agree to do this).

So what do you guys think?
After you've read the above
To be honest, I didn't think things through and will most likely scrap the above idea, and here's why:
  1. This will definitely requite a lot of concentration on my end, so I honestly don't know if I'll be able to track each hit properly.
  2. I suck at creativity, so the challenges will probably be generic (though if I try to add anything complex, it'll probably ruin what place you'll end up in).
  3. Since mm usually "does Time Trials" during most of the races, the challenges wouldn't be fair on his end.
  4. The above idea (first spoilerbox) was something I typed out of boredom.
Of course, if you guys have any ideas on how to keep things interesting, I'll try to continue this.

EDIT: 'cuz if it was 7 AM for you then you'd have a much easier time getting on. ;P

Time to break out the bug repellant... maybe.

(To be honest, I don't know if I'll be joining tonight; KH3D's really making me wanna finish it first.)
rust45
Take a break from it, I'm making my brother take a break from it so I can join in today's party.

Happy racing :)
NaomiMinette
ASD;LFKJASDL;FKJSA;LDKFJSD;L Yay!

You MUST join us next kartparty :D Grab the codes you need (especially the osu! MK7 Community one) at the Nintendo 3DS Club thread.

EDIT: ...Even though I said all that, there's a chance I might not be able to join this weekend's kartparty, if there's gonna be one. Apparently my net's capped at the moment ._. I'll edit this post again/make another post if something changes.

I probably won't make tomorrow's party unless it goes on really long. I'm going to be heading to the fair to watch a friend's band play.

Yeah turns out I'm visiting my cousins over in Lake Tahoe so yeah. unless my uncle magically installed wifi in his car, I might not make it this saturday

Sundays are sometimes bad for me, usually because that's when my family and I eat out (not that it's tradition or anything, but it seems like we hardly ever go anywhere till Sunday).

Argh, forget about it. I don't think I can join you. :/
I noticed that you meet at 9 pm. In Germany that would be 4 am and well, that's the time when normal people sleep :D
bomber34
After 4 weeks i realized that we suddenly have Etiquette Rules:
I lol'd ... I won't stop spamming rainbow road snes, because i never get that track anyway
I might join today again ._.

I also noticed the last time that you guys highlight me often while we do kartparties ... that's funny, because you should ´know already that i cannot chat because my room sucks but it actually does not suck because i like my room just the internet connection sucks
CNM501
Hnnnnng!! I haven't been regular in the Kartparties as much as I used to and probably won't be for a while! I'm so busy, because I wanna finish KH first XD, but in all seriousness I have been really busy lately so count me out of a few Kartparties for a while and I'll try and make a future one as soon as I can. :(

Blazevoir wrote:

Are you trying to do it on reaction? You basically need to "feel out" when the bob-omb is going to explode for the correct timing. Even then it's only worth the risk if you're on like SNES RR or something where there isn't much else you can do other than stopping completely.
mm201
As if you'd ever have a tail at the right time.
*tests it out on blue shells...*

That's 10 PM EST, since it's 9 PM Central.

I'm considering starting it one hour earlier, though, to make it easier for people to play longer.

10PM? Gonna need to hole up alone in my basement and sit beside my router to get a good connection there late at night. xD
How long does it usually go until?
Aside from the rules in the original post, anything I should know?

It varies. Sometimes it can be as long as 3+ hours, sometimes as short as 1-2 hours. As far as any additional rules go, please add kartparty to your highlights so you'll know when we're starting or when you can join in (if there ends up being connection issues or if we're starting up a new set).

More on the Skype thing: though it's completely optional, we'd love it if you could join us on there so we can rage at each other in real time :P

Oh yeah... The osu! Mario Kart 7 community code is over at the Nintendo 3DS Club thread, if you haven't grabbed it already. It'd also help to grab some of the friend codes there since we usually go on Worldwide if there's 4 players or less.

Uhh... Yeah... I think that's pretty much it. Everything else is usually discussed in-game. Hope to see ya there!

I dunno what you mean by adding 'kartparty' because I've never done this before. I'll have to look around the multiplayer stuff before tomorrow I guess.

My computer's in my room on the top floor of the house and the router's in the basement. Chances are, if I want a good internet connection, I'll need to be in the basement but that's another thing I'll have to test out. How do you join rooms in Skype, never done that before either.

Whose friend code, yours?

One person (usually me or mm) starts a call and adds others on their friend list to it. If you want, you can go ahead and add me on there. (Skype name: soaprman)

As for friend codes, you don't need to add everyone, just as long as you've added someone in the group if we play worldwide. I'll add you if you're playing with us tomorrow night.
Justykanna
I am amazed at myself at how long it took me to do all that...
I've 'favourited' the osu! community in Mario Kart 7 and added the kartparty to the osu! in game highlighter (thank you bomber).
Hopefully I'll be ready to go tomorrow.

saving a star in 1st to dodge a lightning and then also dodging a blue by luck isn't haxing >_<

Was a fun first time for me, regardless of being close to (if not) last every race.

It's not like you can't look up the shortcuts :P Also, some tips:

* MT (mini-turbo) whenever it's relevant.
* When drifting, hug the inner part of the turn as much as possible, though be careful when doing this when there's no wall.
* (This was mentioned during the kartparty, but I'll repeat it here anyway.) When getting shot out of a cannon, hold Down to get a speed boost during flight.
* Not sure if you knew this already, but you can trick off of glider ramps to get a slight speed boost.
* Stay behind someone long enough to get a draft/slipstream (it's basically a huge speed boost that lasts for a short while). BE CAREFUL WHEN TRYING TO DO THIS WHEN SOMEONE'S HOLDING AN ITEM BEHIND THEM AS WELL AS DURING TURNS!
bomber34

Well I can't exactly memorize them all.

I dunno what you mean by mini-turbo.
I know to hug inner part of ramps but I usually don't do it if there's someone nearby who can push me off. I tend to use karts that are light with high acceleration so bumping me off isn't exactly difficult.
Never knew about the holding down part. Someone said to hold something but I didn't hear em.
I do trick off of any sort of ramp when I can. Stages like Rainbow Roar when the bumps are sorta random I tend to miss them all.
I didn't actually tend to stick behind people because they can just move, unlike computer players.
Topic Starter
Ekaru
MTs are the sparks you get while drifting. As for practicing drifting... Here are the courses I recommend practicing drifting on:

-Airship Fortress - in that U-turn at the beginning, practice until you can consistently go between the moles and the wall. It helps a lot with your precision.
-Bowser's Castle
-Neo Bowser City for obvious reasons
-Cheep Cheep Lagoon - you need to learn how to drift between the clamshells and the wall if you don't want that course to turn into an automatic not-good-placing
-Waluigi's Pinball, because it has very tight turns that are great for this.

Anyways, once you get decent lines and get a good kart combo together, the most important thing to learn is good item management. Mainly, the following points:

-Get into the habit of looking at the bottom screen regularly. This takes some practice; I recommend starting out by learning to do it on the straightaways. Once you get that down you can do cool things like:
-If someone has a red shell and you have nothing to defend with, stay behind them until it's safe. Else they'll just nail you.
-If you're close behind 1st and see a blue shell pop up, be prepared to brake in case they try to brake to nail you with a Blue Shell.
-Some people in 1st brake regularly. Then 2nd brakes. Then 3rd brakes. Then 4th brakes. Then 5th brakes. Then the person in 6th suddenly becomes 1st with a Blue Shell and you're all screwed. This is why you should only brake in 1st if the person in 2nd is literally right behind you; at high level play, if they have enough time to react they *will* brake, and said scenario will occur.

-If you have a red shell and the person ahead of you has a Tanooki Tail, wait for them to lose their tail before firing your red shell. They'll be an open target the moment they lose that tail.
-If you get a Lightning and the course has a huge gliding section, save the Lightning for that gliding section. It'll be worth it.
-If you get a Blue Shell, always wait a few seconds to see if the braking scenario I mentioned earlier occurs. It doesn't happen much in our rooms, but in like 40k VR rooms it happens all the damn time.

-It's usually better to leave bob-ombs behind you than to try to snipe somebody with them. It's 100x easier to get someone with a dropped bob-omb than a snipe.
-When possible, save your bananas for blind spots. Don't be that person that always winds up using their bananas right before an item box because they weren't paying attention.

Then there's some fancier stuff you can do, but a lot of that involves figuring out who has red shells and what's safe and blahblahblah. Also, I think that's enough for you to practice for now, anyways. ;P

Holy what in the... xD

Oh. Yeah, usually people I know refer to it as drifting. Not really MT. That I do on a pretty regular basis. Not 'quite' so worried about that as item management.

I really do like the karts I've been using. Huge acceleration. Just not a ton of top speed and lighter.

Next week's actually gonna be the only other week I'll be able to go because the week after that, I start school. University I'm going to has no wifi in my residence. =(
