I like the shading on the girl's hair.

As for me, I haven't drawn anything recently since I spent most of my time in Photoshop.
I used to start copying pictures, then using them as references for fanart/original drawing, then I draw original stuff from what I remember in anatomy and whatnot.

I think you're missing her red eye thing!
As for a background, less is usually more. You could go for like trying to imitate a spellcard of her, but just the red subterranean sea will do fine.

I like to think that she can materialize her armcannnon at will when she attacks.
Partly because I find it funny to think of her with a permanent armcannon while doing things like eating or trying to fit through a door frame or something, and partly because I think it looks silly unless she's attacking with it. :D

Thought I was spending way too much on Photoshop

Couldn't find a pencil so I just stick with this red pen I found

The last time I draw was about 1 or 2 years ago, I've been concentrating on Photoshop ever since.

actually rough sketches are better than clean drawings

cause clean drawings look like anime and looks a bit unrealistic

rough sketch i made in less than 5 mins
i was trying to draw the ornament on top the table in the library it was on the spot so yeah :DDD

Because normally, when I do lines, I usually scribble it. So like, instead of just one line, it looks like a path for a bunch of lines.
Which is what I shouldn't do if I want to do clean and smooth lineart :C

You'll get used to a tablet eventually. It doesn't take that long, either.

You can still take the same approach as traditional drawing if you have a pressure-sensitive tablet (and given that you're an artist why wouldn't you have that feature).
