Someone clean up Ryu's mess please. D:

To Ryu: as harsh as this sounds, this thread is about posting GOOD drawings, not just drawings. That means that you're supposed to post drawings you think are good/above what you usually do, not just every single drawing you've drawn in your whole life.

She isn't holding the bow nor the violin properly.

The violin could be better, especially the scroll. D:

EDIT: I'll try drawing a violin myself, it looks seriously hard to do. But I don't have a scanner, so I will only be capable of taking an awful webcam picture.

Instruments in general are exceedingly annoying to draw - drawing a violin in perspective is an exercise in patience, and drawing a reflective saxophone in perspective is an exercise in sanity.

So I was going to spend an hour or two modeling a silly Touhou hat and post the outcome in this thread. That hat somehow turned into a whole character, and with the Touhou drawing thread well on its way to page three, that ship has kind of sailed.

This is the closest thing this board has to a general art thread, so I'll just post my current progress here for the hell of it.

That sort of thing bugs me a bit in anime. If you want to keep the effect without it being weird as hell, try making the hair over the eye slightly transparent.

If you has a smart phone there is an app to make it into a scanner which works surprisingly well, I use it on occasion. Just a btw.

While I find this to be true for a large part of the fanbase, it's worth noting that artistic perfection isn't necessarily the goal of many people. If you really do want to get better at your art, then yes, real life figure studies and forays into the realms of artistic theory are important, but a lot of the people who draw anime without strictly adhering to certain artistic rules aren't doing it strictly to study art - they're doing it for the sake of having fun with it.

I don't feel you can fault them for failing to be something that they never aimed to be in the first place.

I got a tablet, and this is the first thing I drew:
Boxed because not a good drawing
Having had no artistic ability other than a sine wave function up to now, and owning a gamer mouse ever program seemed to insist only moved in straight lines, I haven't drawn anything I put my back into yet until that thing.

doesn't fit in this thread because I need a lot more practice before I can draw something good, but since we are talking about getting better at art this was drawn without any references at all, just my own intuition.

I like the shading on the girl's hair.

As for me, I haven't drawn anything recently since I spent most of my time in Photoshop.
I used to start copying pictures, then using them as references for fanart/original drawing, then I draw original stuff from what I remember in anatomy and whatnot.

I think you're missing her red eye thing!
As for a background, less is usually more. You could go for like trying to imitate a spellcard of her, but just the red subterranean sea will do fine.

I like to think that she can materialize her armcannnon at will when she attacks.
Partly because I find it funny to think of her with a permanent armcannon while doing things like eating or trying to fit through a door frame or something, and partly because I think it looks silly unless she's attacking with it. :D
