I got a tablet, and this is the first thing I drew:
Boxed because not a good drawing
Having had no artistic ability other than a sine wave function up to now, and owning a gamer mouse ever program seemed to insist only moved in straight lines, I haven't drawn anything I put my back into yet until that thing.

doesn't fit in this thread because I need a lot more practice before I can draw something good, but since we are talking about getting better at art this was drawn without any references at all, just my own intuition.

Okuu sketch.

I started doing this thinking, "Oh hey, I'll draw Okuu in a cool pose," but now I can't finish it because I can't think of anything good for the background. :|

I like the shading on the girl's hair.

As for me, I haven't drawn anything recently since I spent most of my time in Photoshop.
I used to start copying pictures, then using them as references for fanart/original drawing, then I draw original stuff from what I remember in anatomy and whatnot.

I think you're missing her red eye thing!
As for a background, less is usually more. You could go for like trying to imitate a spellcard of her, but just the red subterranean sea will do fine.

I like to think that she can materialize her armcannnon at will when she attacks.
Partly because I find it funny to think of her with a permanent armcannon while doing things like eating or trying to fit through a door frame or something, and partly because I think it looks silly unless she's attacking with it. :D
