There's, uhhh, "Pokebis" training somewhere. I'll edit this post with a link to it sometime.

A couple things to mention:
1) The difference between these two training regimen is huge.

2) James Training doesn't really have a minimum required skill level, it's basically just "play this map and maps similar to it until you get better". For some reason, these maps are sickeningly effective at drilling skill into the heads of those who decide to play them.

Only your best play in each difficulty goes toward your accuracy...

Anyway, I haven't done extensive James training, but Love Shine in particular has been great practice for me (it's not in my top plays but it's tied with Shake It at the bottom of the list)

Personally I found Love Shine not to be anywhere near as hard as the rest. In fact, until I read this thread, I did not realize it was part of the James Training, despite being by Be4U XD.

Isn't the point of James Training to have you trained to pass these songs? =]

I can pass each easily now, usually with a B. Working on FC'ing each. I play once or twice of each map per day at the moment.

James Training is just playing maps until you can FC them.

If you need to train using NoFail, do so. You should get to a point where you don't need it. Just keep training until you reach a FC on each map.

I can C half of the JT maps with nofail and not use NoFail on Red Rocket Rising (Almost died on the ending jumps)

Well, either I must be totally badass at Osu! or these songs are easier than I expected. I was getting ready for some super-hard songs that god knows who could beat them, let alone FC them, but I passed every one of them on the first try with an average of 93% accuracy... I guess playing all those IOSYS and 90% of DJPop's songs on Hard for my first four weeks until I passed them with at least an A, did more for me than I had expected.

EDIT: Is it just me or are some parts in Red Rocket Rising really weirdly timed? My accuracy seems to be going lower on that song the more I play it :x

If that's the one with the spinners, then yeah. For me I get pretty good accuracy for all the songs in James Training. No real timing problems.

Just get the Secret Seven albums, the Gojou Kai ones. I'm sure those would be a modernized James version (With an Al-Azif too).

Oh yeah <_< (higan no tsuka arghhh). But you are right they could be seen as another training pack :D i could only FC 2 songs i think, very hard

Sheet... 6k rank dude is better than me :D I cant pass any of these maps.. I tried each map like 3 times alrdy.

Despite what scrubs may have told you, no fail doesn't count for anything.

If you can't fail, it isn't James Training.

Also, due to how rhythm games get harder over time, this is at best an intermediate training course. It won't prepare you for much past that anymore.

gojou kai maps are not training, it just looks like one.

and i just realized that this "training map" is really a training map.

just when these maps are finished at that time... all other maps are not equal to the hardness of these 6 maps.

so i guess i can really call these bunch of maps... training.

james training i thank you once more! Today i fc'ed my first beforu map, and on top of that, i completed Twister (subarashiki mix)on ultimate! All because of james training.. Theres a reason why james is world famous :P

I FC'd all of them about a week ago but took me a lot of tries but still succeeded, really helped a lot, I can do jumps really great now, and my spinning also improved to 350-400 RPM on average. Now all I need to do is improve my tapping accuracy, I still get a lot of 100s and 50s on maps.

Lol, what's the difference between taking any collection of maps and practicing them over and over and doing the same with these BeForU maps? In the end practicing the same maps over and over will only help you with ... wait for it ... those specific maps. In my opinion the key to improving is to diversify. Play as many maps as you can. (And FC them) Playing different maps and learning how to read notes fast is better than learning obscure patterns that only occur in one map imo.

If you're having trouble with a certain aspect of the game (Jumps, streams etc) then there are better maps to help with that and it would be more advantageous to focus your training on those areas instead of restricting yourself to maps by 1 random artist ? ;p

I realise that this thread was started in jest almost (or wasn't it?), but people seem to be taking it really seriously nowadays. These maps don't have magical capabilities. You would get the same results if you played other (quality) maps as well :P osu! is all about practice. As long as you play maps that you aren't fully comfortable with you will improve :P

One also has to remember that these maps aren't nearly as hard now as they were a year ago (On a relative scale) :P

Setting up gameplay specific training packs would be better imo. A specialised pack for jumps, a separate pack for deathstreams etc.

After JT, I have passed both RRR(Combo break on jumps) and Himawari(Regular combo breaks). Still failing on the rest though...

To all skeptics(If there is still some): James Training has proven to be by far the most useful osu training pack ever.
Plus, you break your keyboard and mouse so you can buy better ones!

Off to try and beat this thing... even though I'm only ranked in the 6000 (but that's because I quit songs before the last beat if I don't FC them and I only ever play the same songs XD )

No beforu maps = no maps with (intentional) jumps for the whole history of osu.
no jumps = no mouse control
no mouse control = craptastic player

just FYI, did not really care about this thread. but i gotten better after mapping/testing/playing these maps.



and why people are taking this seriously? its already obvious on page 1

I always thought new players should start with easy songs first and than going for the hard ones.......

I didn't mean a difficulty warning...People don't seem to realise that the OP was made in jest.

People who take this thread seriously should just know that the maps don't contain magical properties :P It sounds like some people feel obligated to play these maps in order to improve instead of playing other maps they might enjoy more :P Thing is, the community has grown a lot, and 90% of the people who read this thread now don't read it in context ;p

btw, I love (most of) your maps James :P But what was revolutionary a year ago isn't anymore :P

James Training may not be the only training programme anymore, but it has worked, and has a higher rate of effectiveness than any other training. (Provided you are not a noob.)

People should read the huge red "Below #2000" on the 1st post. If not, they deserve getting owned.

Maybe the thread could ask you to play other maps in red text, and come back when you are #2300>.

I didn't even finish JT but I can pretty much say I've gotten good. Actually, the only thing I took seriously was Love Shine and there I go off to raise my rank until 800 (now dropping back to 900s...)

here is a tip, keep playing the approved maps, you're bound to fc one of them after a thousand tries, the same way you tried with this training pack

then again it wouldn't hurt with some new james maps

James Training: My Road to Success

I have been playing OSU for 4 months now. During my second month of playing OSU! I have realized how much i sucked and decided to hit the forums in search of answers of how to become a Pro OSU! player. During that time i had found this forum and learned that James Training will help me achieve my dream of becoming a Pro OSU! player.

Over the past 2 months I've strived for greatness but my time with James Training wasn't pleasant. I cannot say how many times i have failed the songs and how many times i had a raged over those ninja spinners that always killed me!!! At one time I even thought of jumping out the window to end all of the pain and suffering. But i endured and thought of the future when i would actual be Pro OSU! player who could beat these songs.

2 weeks ago i had a breakthrough and learned the secret of OSU!! and had beaten the first song on the list.

The road had been difficult and treacherous, but breathtakingly beautiful and enlightening as well. Now i must say that i have reached the point where i can B rank the songs on the list, and only after 2 months of arduous training program that i can say i have reached the rank of 1287.

Now I must say THANK YOU!! James Training for helping me become a great OSU! player.



Also I must Thank my new mouse Razer Death Adder (that I've gotten 2 weeks ago) for helping me achieve my greatness.
To become a great OSU! player you must buy yourself a great gaming mouse or tablet.
