In regards to horror games I'm admittedly quite a wimp. So far I have yet to try the likes of Resident Evil, or most of the names mentioned in this topic for that matter. xD
One moment that definitely scared the shit out of me was in Super Metroid for SNES though. When I played it for the first time a few years ago I already had played the GBA Metroid titles and was familiar with the environment of the series. Super Metroid, however, managed to keep me on my toes many times throughout, especially from Lower Norfair onwards.
To be even more specific, that final area where you finally encounter the Metroid larva that was stolen from the space station, now massively oversized and immune to all your attacks, sucking you down mercilessly to 1HP health until it finally realizes something, and later the 2nd boss phase of Mother Brain, with it's giant SHOOP DA WHOOP... I mean Hyper Beam lockdown of doom. On both situations I felt so overwhelmed I thought I missed some key item or skill beforehand, until I realize there's nothing I could do but watch (or in the latter situation, pray and fight back holding my heart tight).
On top of that, Super Metroid is a game without a dense narrative. All storytelling was done through small animated sequences alone. This made the end-game experience really, REALLY memorable, IMO.

Resident Evil isn't scary at all so you can qualm your fears.
Now that I think about it... I did remember seeing someone playing an earlier version of Ao Oni. Wasn't v6, which is apparently much scarier, but still... Doesn't look that scary.

And while it wasn't scary in general, Thief: Deadly Shadows had some of the scariest moments that I ever experienced in a game. And all of them in one mission. Of course, I'm talking about the Shalebridge Cradle.

My friend once got this surgery game for wii for Christmas and she was all like "AJHDKSJDHF try it it's amazing" and I was like, "No, no, no surgery for me, thank you ;w;" but she forced me and at first my hands were all shakey and I kept killing the patient. Then I got hooked and bought my own copy.
It gave me a fetish for doctors.

The first Silent Hill, probably because I was underage at the time. After that Fatal Frame II, and Forbidden Siren used to make me really nervous, but not afraid.
I'd say Silent Hill: Homecoming. I tried playing that game with my boyfriend sitting with me and I'd get jumpy from doors closing XD. Either that or Amnesia. I use to think F.E.A.R was scary but not really anymore.
I'd also have to say Amnesia: The Dark Descent <- Some really scary stuff O.o

Amnesia: The Dark Descent + Midnight + Dark Room = Fun
For me the scariest game i played are Amnesia the dark descent, Penumbra, SCP-087 and Ju-on the grudge on wii

Amnesia.. yes.. man that game has such a strong vibe. It's creepy even when nothing is happening and the story is surprisingly good
This HAS to go to Amnesia. Dead Space was okay but it was too predictable for me. Amnesia found a way to scare me without even doing anything.

In Dead Space, there are weapons that you could use to fight back.
In Amnesia, all you can do is run away and hide. Not to mention that you're going insane by the minute.

Just Amnesia. And even Amnesia wasn't REALLY scary. So there never really was a game that was able to shock me. I'm still waiting for a game which gives me creeps and nightmares and all that.

...Okay whoever introduced about Irisu Syndrome in this topic should die deserves a silver medal. I almost got a freakin heart attack after watching a YT vid about it. This one to be precise. (Recommended to watch in the afternoon or when you're NOT alone)

You probably haven't gotten to the REALLY SCARY parts yet. It's very creepy if you play this alone. I recommend you to stop playing it and uninstall it ASAP. It even creates and modifies files on its directory and SHE EVEN F'KING WALKS OUTSIDE YOUR WINDOW IN ONE OF THE ENDINGS.Nanael wrote:

If you're still curious and at the same time clueless of what's going on, I'll make a short explanation of how to find most of the stuff in the game based on what I've found out (I haven't played it yet, THANK GOD).

Score < 20k = Watch your photo.png (in your game directory) each time a scene occurs. If you do this consecutively six times, an ending will occur.

Anyway, I did watch a YouTube clip as posted above and also did some googling around in between to understand better. It was a bad idea. Some pictures that were already posted online were extremely disturbing. After all of that, I'm convinced that it's not worth it for me to even bother and try it out.
I even made a freakin blog post that describes pretty much most of the things I've found out about this game (Contains spoiler for all the easter eggs, but no spoilers story-wise.).
Also right now I'm watching a Let's Play of LSD, thanks to a friend who introduced it to me in FaceBook. Holy crap why am I doing this lol

I've been hearing Amnesia a lot around here. But Amnesia so far has only jumscared me and frighten me with the grunts actions, not their visual impact or anything. It really doesn't have a long term effect so far. Hoping to see that in Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs.
