Leaked! Leaked! Is the word we're looking for leaked?
Dammit Remco, we're not looking for words. We're trying to keep this on the down low, so we can pretend to be legitimate.

Apparently some stores broke street date, and that may or may not have caused it to become available by other means.

Question for all: Is Persona 3 Portable worth $40 as opposed to just waiting for Persona 4: The Golden or playing FES on an emulator?

$40, nah.
I bought a PSP secondhand to play it though, but I wouldn't spend 40 bucks on the game on it's own. I wouldn't spend that amount of cash on any game, though.

Devil Survivor 2 is so good.

Fumi is the best so far.
DavisWTG
It seems like the final character for P4U was revealed. Although there isn't anything on the official website, it seems like there'll be a character named Labrys, at least according to the Megami Tensei-Wiki.Also, since there are already screenshots of her around, I doubt it's a fake. Though, she only appeared in a drama CD of P3 so far... I wonder how she'll be like.
Also, started Devil Survivor a few days ago. It's awesome so far, I have to admit. Favorite character so far would be Ronaldo, although I have to admit that I also like Fumi and Jungo. Maybe my final team will consist of them, then. Don't know how Ronaldo's stats will develop, though, since he didn't join my team up until now...
Ivalset
Fuck Ronaldo. What a douchebag.

My ideal team is Fumi, Makoto and Otome, but I really wish Makoto didn't have so much magic; there are a lot of skills I'd like to use with her but she winds up not having enough str/vit/agi and she's kicking around a bunch of magic that she doesn't need. I think Hinako has a better stat distribution but holy shit is she annoying.

I actually wish I had run with a physical MC this time around, since Fumi is more than adequate for magic.

As far as P4U is concerned, I'm kind of disappointed with Labrys. I'd much rather have had Metis instead if I had to have another robot, but I'd really have preferred some persona 2 cast members or maybe even Raidou or something.
awp
James Labrys

I think I'm getting near the end of P3 now. Elizabeth and Aigis are still my favourite characters
SereneMidnight_old
It's been a while since I played the first two SMT games. That should be fixed sometime in the near future... *Too busy with MGS at the moment*
Ivalset
There, beat devil survivor 2 on the Anguished One's route.

Fumi still the best.

Evil Flow is an awesome racial skill, as much as I disliked using evil/chaos wave.
Remco32
Hi guys I finally beat Nocturne am I a real Fatlus now? Went with the neutral ending
Gonna finish P3P soon too, 2 weeks left in the game or so.
DavisWTG
I'm on The Anguished One's route as well, though I can say that I still need a little bit until I'll finish it. Reached the final mission, but I definitely want to get Lucifer before I finish the game to carry it over. I heard that the system how you carry over things is the same like in Devil Survivor Overclocked, so if that's true... then I want to have at least one good demon that I can carry over. Also, my team is almost like I expected it - Jungo and Fumi are in it, though the fourth character is the one of my ending route. Concerning the stats, I decided to go for getting the highest stats for Strength and Agility, the rest for vitality with a little bit into Magic (I think he has 9 points there). And man, Multi-Strike definitely hurts this way. Too bad that four characters couldn't join me, though - I hate it that I couldn't get Hinako and Otome because the Fate Link was too low.
Anyways, I think my next run would be either Ronaldo's or Daichi's route - that depends on my mood, I guess.
Ivalset
Multi-strike is absolutely ridiculous. I don't know what the hell they were thinking with that skill.

Taking a break to play some other games, but I'll probably run through with a physical MC next time around since I really don't need two magical nukers with 5/40/10/20 ish stat spreads.

Remco32 wrote:

Well, that was sooner than I thought I would beat it.
The ending still makes me sad :(
awp
Persona 3 just won't end D: and good thing too, because one of my only remaining quests left involves Siegfried, which requires Yuko SLink 10, and Yuko keeps getting mad at me for sleeping with other people and idk why but it makes it really hard to max out her SLink

The other is to man-handle the reaper but with a max-stat Persona that still isn't going over too well
Remco32
Aren't you playing FES?
awp
yes
Remco32
I thought you could get a Harem in that without that much trouble of the other girls.
I'm transferring P2P:IS to my PSP now. What to expect? I heard stuff about the best cast and story?
DavisWTG
Actually, the only girl that never complained was Aigis, if I remember it right. When I played P3FES, some of the girls were always upset, so I know what I'm talking about...
awp
Yuko's gotten upset at me TWICE now. I think it's those fucking kids who keep calling me her boyfriend, despite my own assistance that we're just friends. We've even had that conversation before.

Haven't gotten the Aigis SLink yet and I'm getting really damn close to the end of the game...
Remco32
I did that SLink yesterday, hoping it would alter something to the end or something. It didn't. The SLink is really cheesy, Robogirl wishing to have and understand emotions.
DavisWTG
Well, at least you're gaining a good Persona for completing that Social Link - Metatron can be useful. Also, can't say that I had trouble with maxing the Social Link fpr Yuko, but Chihiro gave me some trouble to be honest. Though, I think they only start complaining as soon as the Social Link reached Level 7, at least I remember it that way. Though, in Persona 4 it wasn't like that at all - again, if I remember it correctly. Ah well, the Fate System in Devil Survivor 2 works easier, I suppose~.
awp
In Persona 4 the girls can catch you fooling around with other girls (the scenes can be entertaining) but there are no repercussions for it. I really like the Persona 3 approach, where being a selfish douche actually pisses people off
Remco32

awp wrote:

You can be the biggest cunt in the universe in dialogue options, and that will barely have consequences, but cheating is a no-no.
awp
hey not true, I've tried being a gentleman in dialogue options and pissed hormonal women off because idk man they're fuckin' confusing

The one thing I dislike about the Persona games is that they're a chilling reflection (and thereby reminder) of how I just don't understand other people's feelings.

also Persona 4 added a feature to it that Persona 3 didn't have which I really liked, and that was, when being asked to hang out with others, you have "Yes", "Sure, but not right now, I gotta take care of something first", and "No"

Persona 3 I have to be like "oh shit I forgot; I have errands to do at the mall first. No, I'm not hanging out with you" 3 minutes elapse "hey let's do stuff"

oh and I defeated the Reaper last night

I made the lovely mistake of bringing 3 party members with elemental weaknesses to the fight and things got pretty close.

Do NOT Tetrakarn that motherfucker; he just spams Megidolaon if you do and that thing wipes my entire party other than me
SereneMidnight_old
Shame that my PSP broke right when P3P was announced in Japan...
DavisWTG
So, I just managed it to finish my 2nd run through Devil Survivor 2 during the last weekend. Took Daichi's route this time, and then took the option to kill Polaris. It's a shame I still didn't manage it to complete Yamato's Fate Link, and he was the only one not joining me of those whou would have been possible. Ah well... Anyways, I'll try to get the perfect ending next, along with beating the bonus bosses. The good thing is that I can carry over things that are worth 710 points in total - it's awesome that my long training in the first playthrough paid off, because this way I managed it to unlock 2 titles in my second run that were all worth 200 points.
awp
Finished The Journey, now going through The Answer. The Answer seems to be really stripped down in terms of content, though.
Remco32
The Answer is deemed abysmal by the internet. I've skipped it.
Ivalset
The Answer is fantastic for its gameplay. Storywise, yeah, not much there.

Metis is the best character in Persona 3, so there's that.
Lilac
We going through Persona 3 FES/Portable again?

Cause I will not study for my last year of high school to finish that game. I bought this as I almost finished Persona 4 and I don't like P4 any more now. Oh well.

Also, Social Links are way harder...kind of a great challenge to me.
Remco32
Could someone give a summary of the story? I'm somewhat tempted to play it so I can know what happens with the party after the MC dies
Sinistro
Here's a summary from Wikipedia which I've shortened:

SPOILER
During their last dinner party together, the SEES members discover that they are trapped in their dorm, and that the day March 31 is repeating itself. Later, a large hole opens in the floor of the dorm, and SEES is attacked by Metis, an anti-Shadow weapon similar to Aigis. In the midst of fighting Metis to protect her friends, Aigis's Persona, Athena, transforms into Orpheus, the original Persona of the Protagonist. She also gains the Protagonist's Wild Card ability. Aigis is able to subdue Metis, whose actions were an attempt to end the time skip and save Aigis, who she calls her "sister".

Underneath the dorm is the Abyss of Time, the cause of the time skip. The Abyss contains seven doors, all leading multi-floor dungeons, similar in design to Tartarus. At the top of the seventh and final door, SEES fights a Shadow-like version of the Protagonist. After defeating it, each of them obtain a key. By combining the keys, they would be able to end the time skip and leave the dorm. However, Metis presents SEES with an alternative: they may also use the keys to travel back in time, to before the fight against Nyx and the death of the Protagonist, allowing them to prevent it.

Unable to agree on how to use the keys, the characters determine that they must fight each other to decide. Aigis and Metis claim all eight keys, which fuse into the Final Key. The group then discovers a new door in the Abyss of Time, which they use to travel to the moment the Protagonist sealed Nyx from the world.

Metis explains that the purpose of the seal created by the Protagonist was not to seal Nyx from humanity, but to prevent humanity from calling out to Nyx. However, the malice of the human race manifested in a monster called Erebus, which was able to break through the seal, causing the time skip. SEES fights and defeats Erebus.

After breaking the time skip and exiting through the front door of the dorm with the Final Key, Metis, Aigis, and the rest of SEES are summoned to the Velvet Room. There they learn that Metis is a manifestation of a part of Aigis's personality. Distraught over the death of the Protagonist, she no longer wanted to live like a human, and wished to return to being a machine. However, after being set free from the Abyss of Time, Aigis changes her mind, deciding to continue to attend school, something she had chosen not to do earlier.

Metis is the best character in Persona 3, so there's that.
Yeah I've been diggin' Metis. She's a bit confrontational at times, but her Persona is the best non-MC Persona in the game as far as I can tell. No weaknesses? Brutal Slash skills? Wind AND Ice attacks? We're just gettin' started.

When I played through The Journey, Aigis was ALWAYS on my team, so she ended up like 20 levels higher than the rest. I can see that happening with Metis, too.
DavisWTG
ATLUS just made my day - it seems that two new playable characters for P4U were announced, which is quite a surprise given the fact that I've expected Labrys to be the last addition. The first character is quite underwhelming - Shadow Labrys seems to be playable, too - but the second addition is just awesome. Elizabeth is playable - with Thanatos as her persona. This is just going to be awesome. Also, there are already scans of the famitsu around showing her.
Oh, and for the ones who want to see said scan:
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/2300 ... 3fb11o.jpg
Remco32
Welp, I'm sure this will increase gamesales. People have been bitching for her since the game was announced.
DavisWTG
But this makes the decision on who to use as a main character even harder. Up until now, I thought I'd play either Chie or Naoto - but now that Elizabeth was announced, that decision gets only more complicated. Ah well. It's too bad that they had to add Shadow Labrys, though. Adachi could have been a nice addition, in my opinion at least.
Anyways, a part of the OST was also already leaked to Youtube and Nicovideo - I think the User mayonakaforums on Youtube already uploaded everything of the leaked OST so far.
Ivalset
Naoto has the best theme and the coolest gimmick so I will main her assuredly. Looking forward to seeing how Elizabeth (and more importantly Thanatos) plays out. I'd honestly rather see Margaret than Elizabeth but whatev.

I'm actually really excited about what it means that Elizabeth is going in. Pretty much expands the horizons on what characters we might see in the future.

Well, maybe they'll add characters from P1 and P2 later, maybe as DLC (though I won't hope that it is like that). And I'd still vote for Adachi as a playable character, even though it'd mean that he'd basically be a combination of Naoto and Yu.
About the themes - well, Yosuke's and Aigis' theme are the ones I like the most so far, with Mitsuru's theme being a close third place. Still doesn't stop me from using either Chie or Naoto as main - maybe the other one as a secondary character, then.
Also, Chie seems to be considered top tier so far - though I'd still play her even if it wouldn't be like that.
Ivalset
Tiers seem to be all over the place from the videos I've watched. I've seen a lot of stellar Aigis, Souji (fuck yu), Mitsuru and Kanji play. Honestly, I haven't seen many good Chie videos; seems like she has to work a lot to get her damage compared to other characters. I'd be interested in seeing what exactly makes her top tier.

We should start linking awesome matches and discussing them in here.
DavisWTG
Or maybe I just mixed it up with another character. Ah well.
Though, if I remember right you can do enormous damage with her if the enemy is in a corner. There was a video somewhere on youtube, maybe I'll still find it.
Though I can't say that I can say much about matches - it's not that I've played too much Beat'em'Ups in the past.
Ivalset

Enjoy, this kanji is fucking ludicrous.

Edit: Some Souji as well.
Remco32

Fucking Meguro now I really want this game.
DavisWTG
Ivalset, I think you've linked the same video twice, I just noticed that...
Edit: Never mind that, seems there was some mistake on my end.
Though, I looked at the beginning of the Kanji vs. Chie fight, and man... that player surely is brutal.
Ivalset
Nah, you were right, I noticed it shortly after and fixed it.
DavisWTG
Also, another thing I've been wondering about for the last few hours since Elizabeth was announced: Any predictions on what her theme will be? After all, all of the themes seem to be remix versions of older ones. For comparison:
Yu/Souji: Reach Out To The Truth
Yosuke: Like A Dream Come True
Chie: Kerorin Magic!
Yukiko: Someone's Husband
Kanji: Sauna
Teddie: Pursuing My True Self
Naoto: Speculation
Akihiko: Unavoidable Battle
Aigis: Heartful Cry
Mitsuru: Sun

Though, some of those are still speculations. I'm definitely certain about Souji, Chie, Akihiko and Aigis, though.
awp
I don't care for fighting games but props to Elizabeth
Remco32
Will this game even be released in Yurup?
DavisWTG

Remco32 wrote:

Well, since Arc System Works also develops the game, and their games are usually very likely to get a release in Europe, I'd say that we should be able to get it.
awp
oh man I never posted in here about the end of The Answer. Right after clearing the final door, and that thing happened, you know the one, and that event that followed? That blew my fucking mind. I was up until 5am playing P3FES because I just couldn't sleep.

Most of the time your decisions are like, Do I save the world, or do I say fuck it and sleep in? The "righteous" answer is clear-cut, the optimal answer is clear cut, the correct answer based on your own personal beliefs is generally right in front of you. This time around I just could not decide. I couldn't take a strictly logical approach. I couldn't take a strictly optimal approach. I was like, well, shit. The entire lack of a story for the first 20 hours has just been forgiven.

And then I slept until noon.
Ivalset
I don't even strictly remember the choice in The Answer. I'm guessing it's about what to do with the keys after all?

In any case, I enjoyed The Answer more than I enjoyed The Journey and it gave me a serious appreciation for Aigis, who I disliked/hated before playing it. Metis is still the best. And my hatred for Yukari rose exponentially!
awp

Ivalset wrote:

yeah

idk about you, I loved Aigis through and through since I met her. I actually didn't think The Answer added anything to her character, despite that entire game revolving around her and Metis. There was no character growth going on. Nothing substantial.
Ivalset
Mm, I dunno. The gradual transformation from Aigis being pretty much just a robot to experiencing and having human emotions and the like is what I was referring to. A lot of that character growth is indeed done in The Journey, but the results of it were more readily evident in The Answer. I never really felt like Aigis was really exhibiting human-like behavior until playing through The Answer. She felt more like a true member of the team rather than just some robotic anti-shadow weapon.

Oh, I also hate silent protagonists, so that might have also had a somewhat mild effect. I can always appreciate a voiced protagonist.
Remco32
Persona 5 confirmed: http://www.screwattack.com/news/music-t ... -persona-5

EDIT: Me and a buddy have been linking each other songs for a while now. The OST is really great. Note the Pink Floyd lyrics in this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... AxAY#t=45s

I need a PS3.

Apparently it's fanmade.
Drakari_old
Persona 5 has been confirmed for a while... If I recall correctly, it was announced simultaneously with Persona 4: The Golden for the Vita.
Mogsy
To get my Megaten fix recently, I've been getting further into Digital Devil Saga. If you didn't mind the dungeon-crawly aspects of the Persona games, I'd say to check them out. Really digging the story/setting (post-apocalypse rooted in Hindu mythological tradition), and the battle system is fun to abuse.

Also, mantras are like Personas except slightly more annoying (if used to Persona 3 and 4), and like magatama (Nocturne) but much less annoying. So, good in-between with a lot of customization.

EDIT: Also, I just find something so grimly satisfying about the concept of you devouring other demons to survive.
Norbi
I loved playing DDS1-2. I didn't like only one thing in the second game: one demon design. You'll see which one and why, because I don't really want to spoil anything.
awp
I want to pick up Overclocked for the 3DS, soon as I see it for 20bux-ish.
Dafydd
I apologize for grave digging, but I'm planning to play Persona soon.
Sooo, should I start playing from the first Persona (are Persona 2,3,4 sequels?) or each game isn't related to one another?
I don't mind the graphics, I'm a lot interested on the story.
Ivalset
They're not really related, except for Persona 2, where Eternal Punishment is a sequel to Innocent Sin.

I would probably start with Persona 4 or Persona 3: FES/Persona 3 Portable, and if you enjoy those, then work your way back. Persona 1 is a little shaky, and both Persona 2 games are awesome though a little bit more complex and slightly harder to break into.
Dafydd
After researching and reading yer post, I''ll start on Persona 3 and then the rest will follow.
Thanks. :D
Remco32
Protip, don't play P3 but go for P3:FES, it's the enhanced edition.
Dafydd
Protip noted. Thank you. :D
awp
I started with Persona 4, and it was the best RPG I've ever played, I think

P3 FES is still good, and does some things better than P4 though
DavisWTG
So, I just checked some videos to P4A again, and noticed something - seems like the game will get two more characters, as recent screenshots show two more icons. And there are already plenty of guesses on Youtube about the new characters, especially since one of the character themes is confirmed to be I'll Face Myself. Well, I'm still hoping Adachi manages it to get in...

Also, there was an interesting announcement last week that I didn't notice up until now. Guess that we're getting another 3DS-remake of a SMT game, though this time, it's one that never reached the US or Europe. Also, it seems like Devil Survivor Overclocked and Devil Survivor 2 will finally reach Europe... I guess I finally have a reason to get a 3DS then. Too bad that I already imported Devil Survivor 2, though.

My brother got it. I watched him go through the first two battles in Yu's chapter in story mode, though he's making me watch the anime before I can play it myself. :(

PS3 because that's the system real men have.
rust45
Hey, don't get me wrong, I really like the PS3 and I have one. But I get my multi-console games on Xbox because I'm paying for Xbox Live so I might as well use it. And I have more RL friends with Xboxs.
awp
the X360's control pad is kind of shit though
rust45
Yeah... but I don't really like use the control pad for fighters anyway, I know it's technically better, but I can't stand using either control pad for fighters. And since I use the analog stick, that doesn't even matter between systems.

But still, we should be talking about the game. I'm really liking Naoto, but Akihiko interests me as well. I would be messing with both of them right now, but my brother is currently playing.
Ivalset
Yup, picked it up today for ps3.

Already been bodied hard by Mafiamaster!
Norbi
I think these kind of fighters are better played with the D-Pad. Also, I'd get the game for PS3 (I don't own a PS3 or a XBox360 yet. orz). Judging from some gameplay videos, mostly the tutorial and moveset ones Atlus shared, I'd porbably use Naoto and Elizabeth as my main characters. (Those One-Hit KO moves can be deadly! Even if you have to be lucky.)
rust45
All my online games of Naoto have ended in failure. So I've decided to spend some time in training with her. I really like her fate counter system and it's great if I can manage to get the enemy to zero, because I have a pretty sure fire way of getting Mudoon off.

EDIT: Techno Remix of Aria of the Soul is badass.
Cyclone

Oh, oh, I can do the auto combo! Does that count?
HakuNoKaemi
Auto-combo have lowered damage

and in Blaz Blue with my characters I was better without the Beginner Mode that with, even by just knowing some short combos and failing to do Distortions
rust45
I don't really mind the autocombos much (I first loathed the idea, but it's not so bad now) but I think Yu's autocombo was way too much damage for being an autocombo. Everytime one manages to hit me with it, I seem to lose close to a fourth of my health.
Cyclone
Every time Elizabeth does her 60+ hit combo against me in story mode I just start busting out laughing, since nobody else usually gets much in on me.

Also holy shit this story mode.
Mafiamaster
What? Cyclone has a PS3 and P4A?

What's your PSN? We could play together sometime!

Uh, when I get home I'll see exactly how I made my psn. I think it's white-zephyr, including the hyphen, but I'll let you know for sure tonight.

I guarantee you that I fail as Chie more, since I haven't played fighting games much. ;P At least I know a few combos now, though. PSN: PreyingShark
Cyclone
Well thanks to mafia and ival i've figured out some things with labrys. a fun night of p4a to be certain. Ekaru, you should have caught me on IRC to join in. I'll let you know when we're playing again though.
Ivalset
I would complain about my losses, but I literally hate fighting against every single character in this game as Naoto for wildly different reasons. Which is dreadful because I really enjoy playing Naoto.
rust45
What do you hate when fighting other characters? Really the only ones I can't stand as Naoto are Mitsuru (Massive range) and Yukiko (always seem to outzone me) Everyone else I'm fine with going against.
Cyclone
Well, I was playing labrys, and labrys hurts. Take into account naoto only has 8000 health.... Also take into account her long range normal attacks.
Ivalset
Oh, well let's see.

Labrys: Has ridiculous reach on j.b meaning I can't really approach safely, easily outranges my melee normals.
Mitsuru: Same ridiculous reach, just a lot more combo heavy
Aigis: Orgia Mode is disgusting. Thankfully I don't fight many Aigises.
Yukiko: Dia is projectile immune so forced to stay within double fangs range. j. D doesn't even work against Dia. Also, maragi combos and unblockable fire. Traps are of limited use vs zoners.
Narukami: Still 100% free to raging lion and swift strike. Also the whole persona mixup shit is frightening still. Easily maneuvers around gunshot angles.
Elizabeth: Thanatos combos. Magarudyne is projectile immune. Traps aren't much use here either.
Yosuke: EX run and moonsault->crescent slash. Sukukaja is just bad news.
Chie: Rushdown too strong for my trivial defense fundamentals.
Kanji: Probably the least troublesome but takes forever and 2 mistakes is generally enough to lose.
Teddie: I haven't actually fought many teddies, but I know what they're capable of. Stack of tv's, range on baseball bat, item drops, teleporting DP, rage effects, etc
Akihiko: j. C
Shadow Labrys: Can't zone due to persona's guard so forced to rushdown without the life lead. Also has some really nasty setups and still has j. b.

At the end of the day, it's mostly the fault of my poor defense but I don't exactly have a lot of health to afford making mistakes.
