In my point of view, vanillas are expendable. Every vanilla death is just an assurance that the important aux roles stay alive and can keep the battle going. If a few civilians need to die in order to keep the wolves at bay, then I'm fine with that. As long as the aux roles are still alive, there's still a chance to survive.
If anything, a wolf kill on a vanilla townie is just a wasted night on their part.
