You can choose whether or not the numbers appear on the corner in FRAPS. Go to FPS, and in the box that says 'Overlay Corner' you can choose which corner to have it in, or turn it off. That could be off. The thirty seconds thing is because you have the trial version. Either find/steal a registration key, or pirate it, hah.

Also, I'm not sure if it has been mentioned in this thread, but Sony Vegas can NOT read audio from .avi files. Or well... at least 8 can't. Not so sure about nine.

It can, it just depends on the audio codec used, Anyway, Virtualdub FTW~ And Sony Vegas for professional editing :)

Vegas Pro 9.0c sure can.

At least from the fraps raw videos (where audio is 1536kbps LCPM)

As a more compressed format I either use Vorbis (aoTuV b5d) or MPEG-4 AAC (Nero)

Quoted for truth

Also, if someone is feeling randy and willing to explore the exciting world of commandline apps:

x264 now has some built in audio encoding features!

Patched builds by JEEB:
http://x264.fushizen.eu/

Only needs the .exe and Quicktime to be installed (cause aac > others)
Create a .bat file to the directory where the x264.exe is with this line:
x264 --preset veryslow --level 41 --crf 20 --colormatrix bt709 --force-cfr --acodec qtaac --aquality 54 --asamplerate 44100 --acodec-quality 2 --output "PAT TO OUTPUTFILE.mp4" "PATH TO INPUT VIDEO.avi"
The one I used last for example, looks like this:

Now double click the .bat and this window will pop up (first it'll index the input video, though)
After a while (depending on cpu power) you'll have a nice video ready for uploading.

By changing the preset (available ones are ultrafast, veryfast, faster, fast, medium, slow, slower, veryslow and placebo) you can affect the speed of the encode (slower the preset, smaller the file) and by changing the value of crf you can affect the quality of the video, thus affect filesize (0 being best quality, lossless mode, 51 being worst quality. Sane range is 16-24)

Watch this video and/or PM me if you have questions/issues/difficulties/downs/bad case of loneliness, I'd hate to totally hijack this thread ;)

I used FRAPS and Virtualdub, from viewtopic.php?p=252802#p252802
and got this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aTaktjvzwI

Its 960x720, instead of 1280x720. Is there any large effect since I don't have a 720p option, or am I missing out something?

Oh never mind, it didn't appear because the video wasn't fully processed yet.
UtsukimiJerry
Here's another quick tip when recording.

Reduce the effects sounds because it will make the sound well...sounds bad. Reduce it to half will do

Make sure your speaker volume isn't low as well. I noticed that if your speaker volume is low, then the volume of the recording will be low as well.

Hi a quick question: I've saved a replay in half-time but I want to record and play it in normal speed.

Is there a way to play this replay in normal speed on osu so that I can record it?
Gens
Nope, but you could record the video in half-time and then speed it up! But that's kind of cheating.
ychao
Yeah well, I thought of that but I'd rather speed it up on osu then record it... my vegas tends to give problems when increasing video playback speed :S

Thanks for the reply though - much appreciated!
Daru
So, after many annoying attempts at trying to record osu! and failing, I tried to find the root of the problem.

Turns out that my aux hard drive (5400RPM) was not fast enough to write the frames that FRAPS was recording, resulting in a stuttering framerate. Once I switch to my faster 7200RPM drive, everything ran like butter.

I thought I'd share this in case anyone is encountering a similar problem.

Daru wrote:

I have a 5400rpm drive (WD Scorpio) and 720p29.97 works all fine. Of course 1080p/60fps will lag.
ychao
Yeah I've a 7200rpm WD HD as well but I was recording in 1080p (who doesn't like full hd vids especially when the effects on osu are so nice?)... so it figures

Ah well I'll try 720p then...
Rithela
Hmmm I can't get FRAPS to sync up right. It'll record everything just fine.....except the sound is out of sync with the video. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks for any help in advance ^^
IppE
What kind of settings are you recording with?
Rithela
I haven't messed with the settings. ._.
All I've changed is capture key button.
IppE
Yeah but for example, what resolution? Framerate? Hard drive speed for output? Are you actually able to run osu! and record it without lag?
Rithela
No I get lag when I record. With FRAPS just open (yellow FPS meter at top) then it runs just fine. I'll mess with the settings and see if that helps. Thanks! ^^
IppE
If you experience lag only when recording its either your computer not able to run the game while recording or the output drive not being able to handle the 100-200Mbps write speeds.
Polymelia
Thank you~! :)

If so, avisynth works mighty fine.

clip1=FFmpegSource2("osu flying high.mp4")
clip2=FFmpegSource2("osu flying high.mp4").Spline64Resize(384,226)
Audio=FFAudioSource("osu flying highosu flying high.mp4")
Overlay(clip1, clip2, x=464, y=160, mode="blend", opacity=1.0)
video=last
AudioDub(video, audio)
Trim(768,2048)
FadeIO2(30, color=$000000)
I need to sync those videos.
I re-converted the video that was causing problems in VirtualDub and now it's rendering in pip in vegas.
Seems that vegas doesn't want to work well with vid compressing format of my cam o.o

I assume you mean encoding the video with a gpu encoder or some other hardware accelerated solution.

If you're ok with the quality/filesizes it outputs, sure. GPU encoding solutions are hardly the most efficient ones though, mind you.

@koentie: Have you tried turning down graphic settings? You might wanna use "Low-end PC" and 640×480 resolution on the Options menu to be able to record using Fraps while retaining the 60 FPS.

My sister's laptop (yes, even crappier than yours) can record with Fraps just fine.
lolcubes
Another thing which completely destroys your performance while using fraps is recording on the same hard drive you have your game on. Granted, it's only a minor hit cause osu! doesn't really take up that much resources, but it's still a hit.
Also if the hard drive is old, you might encounter some framerate drops out of nowhere.

Making them spoilered still loads them IIRC, so that won't help. I also don't think this whole forum should adjust because some people with ancient hardware can't browse them with optimal speed.

I used "template" = DVD NTSC instead of HDV 720-30p
It probably so big because its DVD?

IppE
Well MPEG2 is generally grossly inefficient compared to MPEG4 encoding. And that DVD template probably gives it the max bitrate specified in DVD spec, thus unnecessarily bloating it.

If you feel adventurous you can always read up on x264 and figure out how it works (Avisynth + x264 is pretty simple once you get the hang of it) or you can read Jeffro's quide on how to use x264vfw with Virtualdub as it uses a simple gui instead of a command line app.

you need to download the codec first, or just download K-Lite codec pack

i once use x264 directly on Dxtory, no Output whatsoever, so i use Xvid on Dxtory and encode it to MP4 with x264 on Handbrake

You need x264fw for that.

Also, scripting is fun when you get used to it. As a matter fact, I only need to run a batch file without having to tinker with anything for encoding using x264.
