Homes internet is down so I took the time off to clear off a few films I downloaded much prior.

Let's see,The Boondock Saints, Mardock Scramble 01 and Cowboy Bebop: knockin' on Heaven's Door (2011 Re-release).

Read some Shikkoku no Sharnoth as well. Kinda lengthly with the narration and text, but alright.

Hm... anyone have recommendations for good free ones for a neophyte? I've been through True Remembrance and Narcissu, though I liked the first a lot more.

Try Sharin no Kuni : Himawari no Shoujo, it's quite nice.

also, just finished kikokugai, not sure what to say about it, but I thought hanachirasu was better.

Looks interesting, but it's not free. Not that money is an issue but I'd like to try out a few more before really getting into this. Plus, I can't make head or tail of how to order a product from a Japanese website.

try Eien no Aselia -The Spirit of Eternity Sword- http://vndb.org/v74
its a nice strategy-VN, but it might be a bit long if you try to get all of the endings
halfway downloading, just realized it's not translated so no :(

will also recommend utawarerumono, gadget trial and daibanchou(same company as sengoku rance)
and god forbid, Pretty Soldier Wars AD 2048 if ur into tentacles(this is my first vn lol, must explain as to why I don't find tentacles revolting. crappy story but it has some nice cgs).
might try utawararemono later
replaying gadget trial right now (trying for full S)
maybe not for daibanchou

2048 gameplay elements is broken, in a very bad way. 90% acc but miss all the time? OK

If you're after some legitimately free ones you can download some of the translated trial versions of visual novels such as:

- Aiyoku no Eustia
Trial download: http://august-soft.com/eustia/download.html
TL patch: http://www.sendspace.com/file/9137qe

Kira☆Kira and Higurashi When They Cry are available in trial formats as well on Mangagamers website.

Then there's a handful of free released as well:

- Katawa Shoujo
Site link: http://katawa-shoujo.com/

- Red Shifft
Site Link: http://insani.org/redshift.html

it is translated (or i wouldn't be able to play it), or the back-port is anyways.... its just the translation is a patch :s

Uwooooh!

Momoyo's route was so damned good in MajiKoi!! which made it well worth marathon reading through it upon its release. Her dere side is almost too unbelievable that it's good.
I knew Momoyo would be my favourite route in the whole game, now all that's left is to see Miyako and Kazukos routes and that's another VN off the list.
DO NOT CARE FOR THE SIDE CHARACTERS!

After which is my impatient wait on Aiyoku no Eustias translation to begin...
mekadon_old
So I just finished downloading Cure Girl asasfsafasfsfafsdadsfsad

illusion games are the best, beautiful 3D artwork... included @schoolmate & @homemate. but its poor that the story just a lustful men with his harem XD

but i usually played sonohanabira, a Yuri KN (Kinect Novel), and yes. who doesn`t know what KN means, in my mind KN mean a visual novel with only one-route.. you just have to click click and click to follow the storyline

illusion games are also rather poorly optimized and take too much space for a game that would require you run on at least a 3.0 GHz processing chip with a reputable graphics card for flawless play, which if it isn't then it isn't worth running on your PC.

Sono Hanabira is what you'd call a linear novel since each game focuses solely on a single pair. It's neat, but can be tiresome after a while.

my processor 1,6ghz dual core, the poor one in market.. works good playing illusion game... but yes the size of the game is just big~ and i choose sonohanabira because the size of the file are affordable for my (expensive and usually disconnected automatically) connection :x

Don't forget Steins;Gate! It's a Visual Novel too! :D But it's not translated, sadly.

Umineko is full of traps, I guess.

Mangagamers'translation of When They Cry is pretty terribad, though. Just saying.

I'm waiting for the fan translation to be updated; they are still continuing the project even though a licensed translation has been released. The fan translation of the first chapter is remarkably more gripping and immersive than the MangaGamers translation. Sometimes it looks like they just ran the script through spellcheck, and even then there are still spelling and grammatical errors.

Anybody knows when Steins;Gate is going to be translated? Or is it already in progress.
Also, did somebody read and watch ef ? Is the VN the same like in the anime? Or do you play different chars
Oh, and someone got recommendations for a Turn Based Strategy besides Sengoku Rance?

thanks in advance

There are a few free VNs out there that are rather short and are already in English (no patch needed).

True Remembrance and Narcissu were my two first VNs. Both are very good beginner VNs as there are no choices and they are rather short.
http://narcissu.insani.org/story.html
http://trueremembrance.insani.org/

don't take it personally, babe, it just ain't your story (yes that is the title) is another rather short, free VN. I have to warn that it is full of internet lingo and the such, so if you hate that sort of thing it ain't your story, babe (ba dum tss). Also look into Digital: A Love Story if you're into the sound of dial-up.
http://www.scoutshonour.com/donttakeitp ... yourstory/
http://www.scoutshonour.com/digital/

Then there is Katawa Shoujo. The final version will be a bit longer than all of these others and will have many more routes, but for now you can look into the demo.
