Well, you need to practice with the 3d,it's normal that the first time your eyes will hurt, but after 2-3 hours, you will see perfectly in 3d!
So,there's no problem if you can't see well the 3d of the 3ds,you just need a bit of practice :D

"Getting used to it" would be better way of saying it imo :P

hmm i'll probably wait for 2 or 3 years and see what games will be there then
also they probably will release a newer and better version of 3ds

same goes with the ps vita

price drop of $80 USD coming August 12th

hooray I wouldn't pay 250 for one but I might pay 170

The compensation for us early adopters is 20 free GBA and NES games (50/50 split), BTW. About $50 total was saved over here due to a Target deal anyways. So, 20 free games - all of which are pretty solid first-party titles so far - for $30 is satisfying for me.

Anyways, yes, this was badly needed. $170 is similar to the price of what the various DS models were, so this is a very good price.

P.S. Also, Super Mario 3D Land is confirmed for November, and Mario Kart 7 for December.
Towjow
I bought the 3ds just for The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of time, was worth the money. If I was still in LA on the 12th august, I would have totally waited to purchase it on that date.
Azure_Kite
Legend of Zelda has been the most substantial 3DS Purchase I've made so far. It's pretty much had a graphical overhaul (OHGOD TEXTURES) and it includes both the original and Master Quest.

I also got an Ocarina of Time, but no luck playing it, yet.
awp
I plan to get one at that price, but I'm probably just going to play DS games on it for now until Starfox/Cave Story/Mario/Kiddick

That's exactly what I've been doing, actually. The circle pad is so much more comfortable than the DS's control pad.
Towjow
I would pay extra 100$ for Camelot to release Golden Sun for 3DS :c That'd made quite a lot people purchase the 3DS I believe.
Azure_Kite
I'm still waiting for Cave Story. That'll be all I play for some time when it's released.

Nintendo Australia wrote:

Nintendo Australia plan to offer an exclusive Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Program to consumers who have purchased the Nintendo 3DS at the original launch price. The program will enable those Nintendo 3DS owners to download 10 NES™ games and 10 Game Boy™ and Game Boy Advance™ games for free from the Nintendo eShop.

These free games are available to anyone who owns a Nintendo 3DS system and uses a wireless broadband Internet signal to connect to the Nintendo eShop at least once before the price drop on 12 August. These users will automatically be registered in the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador program. The program contains two elements:

1. Starting 1 September, Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors will be able to download 10 NES Virtual Console™ games at no charge and before they are available in the Nintendo eShop to the general public. These games, including Super Mario Bros.™, Donkey Kong Jr.™, Balloon Fight™, Ice Climber™ and The Legend of Zelda™, are slated to become paid downloadable games, but Ambassadors get them early for free. Once the paid versions of the games are posted to the Nintendo eShop later in the year, the updated versions will be available to Ambassadors for download at no cost.

2. By the end of 2011, Nintendo will provide Ambassadors with 10 Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games. These include games like Yoshi’s Island™: Super Mario™ Advance 3, Mario Kart™: Super Circuit, Metroid™ Fusion, WarioWare™ Inc.: Minigame Mania and Mario vs. Donkey Kong™. These games will be available exclusively to Ambassadors, and Nintendo currently has no plans to make these 10 games available to the general public on the Nintendo 3DS in the future.
Well, there's something.

Just got my 3DS. I'm actually very happy about this purchase.
OzzyOzrock
Ahaha! GBA games yeeeaaah!

Super CIcuit go go go racing mario yeah!

Golden Sun ftw, also hope they release some advanced wars.

The true, albeit obvious, reason for leaving out the GBA slot revealed.
Drakari_old
I would recommend it if you want the games. I've tried it and the 3D works well (Which is important when you wear prescription glasses, the other alternatives don't fit very well), but it's really just a gimmick that doesn't add a lot to the gameplay. It is nice to look at, but I personally would prefer higher detail over 3D so I'm going with the PSV when it comes out.

Or I may end up getting both, with that price drop I can probably afford it... Cave Story 3D might be worth that. Would be a shame to waste the XL I already have though, maybe there's a good trade-in option somewhere.
awp
apparently I'm immune or at least pretty resistant to 3D headaches. I played for an hour or so and didn't feel anything. Also dicking around on the 3D camera is neat as long as you don't allow common sense to spoil the novelty of it
Haseo_old
I don't approve of Portable 3D Devices. Although it'll be better if it gets shipped to PH bleh.

Uhh you can buy a 3DS in the Philippines?
MickX
Initially I got hyped real badly for it, but then it all subsided when the retail prices first popped up. No way in hell I would pay €249,90 for a console that's worth €189 in US currency. The initial list of games didn't please me at all either.

Still not willing to spend my money on it. Maybe once the presumable 3DS Lite comes out... nah, rather wait for the Wii U.
awp
The 3DS is already pretty small - almost uncomfortably so, I'd argue. Very little of the inner surface area is not occupied by screens or buttons

awp wrote:

Yeah, it's actually about as small as a DS Lite. It's probably a tad bigger but it still fits into my old DS Lite case.
LuigiHann
I doubt they'll do a Lite version specifically, but there'll presumably be a Version 2 of some kind eventually. It's just the way they do handhelds. I do wonder about this one though, just because the 3DS has so under-performed compared to their expectations. I don't know if that suggests a revision sooner or no revision at all, but I imagine it'll have a big impact on their plans one way or the other.
K2J
Azure_Kite
That's not very pretty.
Cookie pro_old
Yes, I buy it already and I and a wonder;) graphics beautifull but the pictures are a little bad and the games you buy them at 50 euros each (that comes to mind issues for the ds 3d r5) :)

Nano-Desu_old
Going to wait for KH 3DS to come out and get a 3DS way sooner for that.
Then I might be able to judge... When it comes out, of course.

Needs more Battery Life, not eye-killing quality.

Oooh, Pokemon Rumbles. :D

SF643D tomorrow, yesss

If that second stick isn't one big "Yeah, we're planning a new model" sign, I don't know what is.

I'll be interested when the new Mario and Kid Icarus games are out, and so long as Nintendo can keep a good stream of content coming themselves, that should be enough to keep me happy. 2/3 of my DS & Wii libraries are their stuff anyway.
Behon
And now the Square fangirls can start making all sorts of crazy new slash fiction. Check the upper left for a new face in Dream Drop Distance.

Azure_Kite
Oh God It's Neku.

WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU PUTTING NEKU INTO KH, INSTEAD OF GIVING HIM HIS OWN SEQUEL.
NoHitter
I don't think TWEWY was meant for a sequel anyway.
The game itself was already complete.

That being said, it would be interesting to see how KH will develop the world. Noise-Heartless?
Screw that. I forgot that they don't make original SquareEnix worlds for KH. We'll likely get an Auron.

I already read that he just shows up in Traverse Town here. It would be cool if SE started incorporating some levels based on their better non-FF games once they run out of good Disney movies to use. I still just want some Pixar stuff the most, though.

A sequel was announced but then scrapped because SE wanted to capitalize on their big sellers.

Just so you know.

Where does DDD fit in the timeline, anyway? Looks like they're using the old (old as in historical circa KH1) model for Sora, yet Riku looks the oldest he's been to date
LuigiHann
Probably set in some kind of virtual/dream/virtual-dream world

I hope at least one of these games (maybe not until the real KH3) gets some Muppet cameos. Probably not a whole Muppet world, but a Muppet Theater building would be a nice addition to a Traverse-like world.

3D is set after the events of Kingdom Hearts Re:coded. And the rest I'll put in spoilers:
SPOILER
Following the destruction of "Ansem" and Xemnas at the hands of Sora and Riku, Xehanort is revived. In response, Yen Sid decides to put Sora and Riku through the Mark of Mastery Exam in order to become full-fledged Keyblade Masters and counter Xehanort's threat...
...According to an interview, Nomura said the game will take part, at least partially, on the Mark of Mastery.
So maybe this game takes place just before the Mark of Mastery and prepares Sora and Riku to it in virtual spaces?

Maybe. I seem to be playing handhelds a lot more often, but I m definitely going to wait for a price drop and more games to come out. The only game that I m REALLY interested in is Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor Overclocked. Just not enough good games yet to make it a buy.

So I got the 3DS a few weeks ago and OOT. At first, the 3D effect at the higher settings made me cry, but I got used to it eventually. I still want to turn the device to use OOT's tilt aim, which of course ruins the 3D and makes you see double. Which is a pity, because aiming arrows is so much easier in 3D.

It gets me thinking, Pokédex 3D has faaar too much value invested in the quality of the models to be a stand-alone project. I think we may see a Colosseum or PBR style game sometime down the road on the 3DS using these models. (I doubt the main lineage of RPGs would abandon their sprite art any time soon since they would have done it already if they were going to.)

Have you tried aiming on a stool or other chair with wheels? It's possible to maintain the 3D effect with some skill by turning your entire body instead of the console.

Yeah, I turn my head when I look around in OOT. It was natural to me from the start and it didn't even come to mind that I would Not turn my head with the 3DS. And then when a friend tried to moved the 3DS around but didn't move his head, I lol'd at him :D

It's more an issue when I'm reclining and don't have the range of motions needed.
Mashley
3D is annoying anyway, whenever I've played it for an extended amount of time I had to turn it off because it makes my eyes feel a tiny bit funny and you lose it every 2 seconds.
Also the second analogue stick peripheral is the most pathetic thing I ever did see.
jjrocks
I love my 3DS but again, wait for a couple months. The 3D is fantastic for me actually, I never have gotten a headache and I actually use it a lot when playing Ocarina. (I tried it without the 3D once and it felt like I was missing a heck of a lot) So if you're like me and immune to the negative effects of 3D then get one, otherwise...eh....
mm201
OOT has a funny bug where the "eye distance" spontaneously shrinks, causing a loss of 3D. (It's very obvious when you play Zelda's Lullaby on the way into Zora's Domain and it does that zoom-out thing.)
I guess this is a result of porting over an originally monoscopic game to 3D. They made this happen instead of impacting one of the cameras with a wall.
awp

Mianki wrote:

I do a similar thing with Starfox. The real problem for me is that during intense situations, I don't always sit still and will move my head to one side or another and need to dedicate some mental effort into re-aligning myself with the screen.

I always keep the 3D on maximum though, it doesn't negatively affect me and I enjoy the aesthetic of it.
-Athena-
most definitely not, I'd rather get a smart phone which does everything on top of playing games
Haseo_old
I prefer buying a Bamboo Tablet rather than a 3DS. I want to try out RE:Mercenaries 3 though.

Yes, and it's not to combat used game sales.

On the other hand, an unopened copy of the game will probably be worth like a hundred bucks in ten years. Unless the game sucks, or emulation catches up.

They already have devices that you can completely zero the save flash of a 3DS card. I couldn't see used game stores not having these. Individual players, on the other hand... ಠ_ಠ

The game is pretty darn awesome, at least, IMO. If you've ever played Mercenaries from Resident Evil 4/5, it's pretty much that, with Missions and perks, the like. It's got a peculiar arcadey feel, where you build up chains of kills in order to increse your score and earn a passing rank.

The online multiplayer is pretty cool, too.

Of course, KH3D will come out only for this console and this is my favourite game series.

Portable games, yes. Also the Final Mix versions of the KH games are JP ONRY as well, so I always have to pirate the buggers. The downside to that is missing out on the English voice cast in games where the English voice actors are better than the JP voice actors. The DS didn't really have this problem because WHAT VOICE ACTING? but eh, 3DS...I mean, imagine playing Disgaea or Starfox in Japanese. That'd be annoying as shit.

If you listen Donald with english voice, it isn't better. This is not a real problem. I like listen Donald with japanese voice, 'couse it is really funny. :D If the game is voice active and the origin is japan, I want to hear on that language. I dunno what's your problem with the japanese language...
Azure_Kite
Shauni, awp is probably one of the last people I'd expect to have an issue with japanese dubbing as a whole, just saying.

I agree with you awp about the DS; having on average ~128MB to make a fully featured game is a little bit of a challenge. I was satisfied when Disgaea DS had the intro voice acted.... It really does depend on who does the dubbing for whom, but at the same time, I don't think there's really been a game I haven't been able to play due to a bad voice actor.

in my opinion, some games that had many English elements won't be as good as English voice on JP voice. . .(like Disney), and most RPG from Japanese and got Japanese elements is better in JP voice, like suikoden tierkreis. . .(their english voice is bad imo) . . .

Some games, yes, but if we speak on KH, japanese and english voice is equal, I think. And the Disney is popular in Japan, so it must to have japanese voice, and they are use that voice, so it is the best, and more suitable choice. So, in the end, both language is good and listenable.

I read about that. All it does is simulate a standard 3DS cart being inserted. It's only good for piracy. :(
...which shows what a huge waste of time all of Nintendo's security is. They claim they're preventing piracy with it, but piracy is the easiest thing to accomplish in such a system, since you don't actually need to defeat any security. The only thing they prevented is legitimate homebrew.

Wasn't sure which thread to post this in, but it looks like a good chunk of the TWEWY cast is cameo-ing in the 3DS Kingdom Hearts, not just Neku. Also, Tron Legacy.

On the other hand, no 3DS.

This might be the first KH game I've actually been really looking forward to since 2. They haven't had the same kind of impact on me since KH2 and it's getting harder and harder to follow along with it but I'm actually kind of eager for this one. Possibly just the TWEWY bias kicking in, though.

Gonna have to marathon the other six games prior to its release so I remember everything. Actually, Re:Coded was largely inconsequential to anything, so just the first five.
bomber34
I got my 3DS after the Price drop and i love it.
Ok I admit there are millions of crappy games but it is like the wii.
The stuff Nindendo does is cool and the stuff from nameless third party developers are crap.

The starting line up was pretty lame and after that there was this remake time but i look forward.

I recommand the 3DS to all people with internet access lol and Mario Kart fans :3
