StoryThere is a famous myth about the calendula:
It is said that a boy Crimnon who worships the sun god Apollo lived in Sicily. Every day, he could meet the Apollo driving a horse-drawn carriage and that made him feel very happy. However, the intimate relationship between the two was met with the jealousy of cloud god Muse, who used the cloud to cover Apollo for eight days. On the ninth day, Apollo discovered that Crimnon died because he could not bear the sorrow that he could not meet with Apollo. In order to mourn his little lover, Apollo turned Crimnon into calendula.
Regardless of whether this myth is true or not, calendula has been given a sad image, and the derived flower language was "sadness" and "parting pain".
