If you have any pending maps, you will need to change them before submitting. Ranked maps will not have your new username until osz2 is implemented (which will mean they are fixed).

This is what I thought as well. Perhaps a timeframe of two years (or even one year) would make sense, especially if the account has 0 beatmaps/0 posts/etc. Obviously there could be more lenience if the user has a higher playcount or such, but I digress...FurukawaPan wrote:
It makes sense to me that if an account registers and never plays/posts in the forum, that those sorts of accounts should auto purge after a certain time frame has passed.
I don't like that idea.peppy wrote:

#modHelp was discussing different restrictions with peppy last night about this. Number of ranked maps, playcount, (and possibly forum posts?) would be taken into account. Therefore, old ACTIVE users would never be touchable.Pokebis wrote:

And how is "no longer active" classified? I've seen quite a few people who put osu! down for quite a while, but eventually came back to it. I don't think that's fair to them, plus you could do some nasty things with it. Say I turned into MOOMANiBE, Saturos, or Sarumaru. Actually, they have recent site visits...
But still, I could hijack a recognizable person and mess with people, despite them being able to see I used to be Pokebis.
I think it's just a bad idea 100%.
Definitely agree with this one.Pokebis wrote:

Apprently once someone changes names, the old one IS grabbable.
Example: http://osu.ppy.sh/u/gladiool (Gladi before)
And now theres: http://osu.ppy.sh/u/gladi as of yesterday.
Just pointing it out.

For the time being the old username will be obtainable by others. If you are worried about this being a problem, then don't change your username yet. I may look at the possibility of reserving the old one at some point. I think most people who want to change their names won't be that attached to the old name (they shouldn't be if they are changing it) so apart from obvious impersonation attempts (which can be dealt with on an individual basis) I don't see there being too much harm the way it is.

You should probably make the currently not-huge parts of that sentence also large, currently it interrupts the flow too much. Maybe have the sentence go from big to bigger to biggestpeppy wrote:

He changed it because the name change system was intended to be used for things like Beuchi-chan becoming Beuchi, and stuff like that. Therefore, he kicked some ass and rolled back names that didn't follow this original intention.DataCirno wrote:

I was away from August 1st til August 10th, this feature was introduced one day after my departure, I've been asking for it a while ago, and now it's gone again? Are you kidding me?
I joined osu! more than a year ago because someone showed it to me, but I didn't think about my username very long because I didn't play it that much and thought I'd never write something anyway.
But after about half a year I downloaded it again and now I love it, but I also hate my old username, it's stupid.
Please, give me and maybe others a chance! I promise I won't regret changing my name and I won't ask to change it back. PLEEEAAASE!

Actually I was able to change to this name even though the former user logged on recently, he didn't have any plays though.FurukawaPan wrote:
The peppy-quote above are conditions for someone *else* to essentially take over some inactive user's name. They must have not played the game significantly (less than 100 plays requirement), and must not have logged in for nearly 2 years.
