I am primarily a CTB player, but I don't play as often anymore. I have mostly retired from developing and modding for the game. I might come back, but I don't have the motivation at this time.
1. Mod 4 Mod Contact me at any point asking for a m4m. I will likely accept. m4m requests will be given the highest priority. I will try to mod your map within the next couple days.
2. I have a queue. Queue is closed until further notice. My modding schedule is too inconsistent to maintain a queue. I'd rather mod when I feel most capable of modding without forcing people to wait excessive amounts of time for my mods.
3. PM me with your request and I will try to get to your map when I can. If you ask me in game I will likely direct you to PM me, so I can get to your map when I'm able to mod. If you're capable of modding, I would prefer that you do a m4m with me if requesting by PM.
My modding approach is usually in multiple stages. The first mod may not be as detailed or on point as it should be. This is mainly because I am unfamiliar with your map and how it all fits together. Sometimes I will save issues I'm not sure with to a recheck and I tend to have different opinions on your map in general because of various reasons. The most common reason is that getting familiar with your map takes a lot of time and it takes a lot of time to properly flowtest various patterns. It is easier for me and more accurate to pattern test in a map I'm familiar with.
If you want a recheck, ask. I don't have a lot of time to check maps, so I limit the amount based on who requests it. Feedback on my mod is much appreciated. It is easier to mod when I know the vision of the mapper. I want to know the mindset involved when the patterns were created and how willing you are to change your patterns.
Other things you should note about my mods: Most of what I say is based off of my opinion. I may not be so confident about my opinion at times. I will leave hints about my confidence in my mod through how I phrase my points. Question marks mean I'm not sure or what I'm asking is subjective and paragraphs may either mean I'm really not sure or I really want to convince you to take my idea. I may include screenshots to detail my suggestion, and these are generally example images. I will try to include as much information as I think is necessary for you to understand my point of view. Keep an open mind and don't blindly take my ideas. Form your own opinion about the situation and consider your options carefully. The days of seven hour mods are behind me. I can't fully test everything I suggest anymore. More accurate assessments are saved for the recheck and I hate seeing changes I hinted at make a map worse. I want to make sure you have considered all the options and unless otherwise noted make no declaration that my proposed solution is optimal.
The content mentioned in my mods can vary from large flaws to grid adjustments. The smaller the issue the more subjective it becomes. I will tend to point out such things during the recheck or if your map contains very little actual issues or potential issues are harder to identify. The more focused towards a particular mapping style your map is, the harder it is for me to form an opinion about your map during the first mod. Harder maps are more difficult to mod as well. These types of maps are more beneficial from a recheck by me. It is exceptionally rare for me to consider a map flawless.
I am not very good at modding other gamemodes. I will sometimes hitsound mod your map. I will usually focus on flow or hitsounds, but not both. I will save the other for the recheck. I am not very confident in my hitsounding suggestions because it is largely subjective.
1. Quality centered modding I want my mods to be focused on improving the overall sense of quality in your beatmap. I will take the time necessary to identify and resolve potential issues. I will try to make sure that you are informed of issues in your map no matter how small. 2. Hard Criticism I strongly believe modding should be used to give feedback to the mapper. I will give you my honest thoughts of your map or how I presented my mod. I want to let you in on my state of mind, so that you may better interpret my modding point of view. 3. Open Contact I will be available to explain my mod in detail. I have failed the mapper if I could not convey a vital change to the mapper in a way that he/she can understand. I will try to provide as much detail as I feel is required to present my opinion. 4. Open Recheck Policy I will commit to checking your map after changes have been made. I may present requirements before asking for a recheck, but I will not turn down the first request for a recheck. If you want a recheck with me, please leave me a PM. I am not doing my job properly until I see that the proper changes are being made. 5. No discrimination It is rare for me to deny a mod request. Although I am limited in my ability, I will attempt to mod your map regardless of length and state of disrepair. I want to enforce equal opportunity standards, making sure everyone has access to high quality mods, not just the popular mappers. 6. I know my Limitations I want to ensure the quality of my mods by limiting my approach in situations that I do not properly understand. I will be upfront with you if I struggled or had concerns over my own modding ability. Some maps are harder to mod than others. I want you to know how effective my mod is, so you may have a better understanding of how much potential issues are still present in your maps. 7. Giving Deserved Priority If your map is of decent enough quality, I will star it. I would rather spend my stars on maps other than my own. I am one of the only people who still values the priority system.
Times I mod My modding schedule varies from day to day. Sometimes I'm not in the mood for modding or I'm doing something else during the time I would normally mod. I tend to only mod one map per day that I mod. The best way to ensure a quick mod from me is to ask me for a m4m.
The best times for me to mod are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, (Saturday/Sunday).
Why can't you mod when you have freetime? A. My medication helps me think clearly. My mods will be most accurate while drugged xd. Not being on my medication also makes me procrastinate and kills my motivation to start things like modding.
My Terms for Modding
If you leave me a modding request via PM or just through my queue when it is open I'll get to your request when I can. I would prefer you only PM me if you are a friend of mine, or you really need help/opinions or wish to m4m with me. If you need timing help, I have connections to help you with that and you can just contact me anytime.
The current state of a map is not that important to me. I enjoy helping new and inexperienced mappers, so I'm used to modding maps that are in okay to poor shape. It may take me several mods to get my complete opinion out. Do not be afraid if I post a wall of text, I try to be as thorough as possible.
Keep in mind that I'm only one person and I can't make your difficulty perfect all by myself. I can get the glaring issues out of the way and tell you bluntly what's wrong with it, but there will be a point where you'll need to seek other opinions to improve your map further. I will be willing to recheck your mapif you send me a message, but I will not have the time to recheck on my own time unless i feel it is absolutely crucial that I make sure you didn't break anything.
A fitting pattern.. 1. Matches the music and sound on-beat. 2. Be presented in an intuitive, and identifiable manner. (You must be able to identify it as a pattern) 3. It should be consistent with surrounding patterns if the beat doesn't change rhythm 4. The pattern matches the overall intended pacing and difficulty in a map. 5. The pattern's context is identifiable in the music (If the music is abstract, the pattern should be abstract, if the musics repeats patterns, the beat should repeat patterns. If the music is calm, the flow should be calm.) 6. You must have a reason to malign a pattern, and it must be done in a way that is visually appealing. (keep in mind that violating this rule does not mean your misaligned sequence is not a flaw. Maligned patterns are flawed patterns and may or may not be fitting. 7. A better pattern does not exist, or an existing flawed pattern can be made more perfect without negatively affecting the flow or stability of other patterns.
Consider your map like a puzzle. all the pieces need to fit together or it wont work. A perfectly fitting puzzle, will give the perfect experience to the players. If you find your patterns meet one or more of these qualifications: think about whether that pattern is right for the song or the mapping approach. There's no guarantee that there will be a perfect solution, but make sure you consider all your options.
I have been part of the Support Team since 11/23/2012 and have been actively managing the Tech Support and Feature request forum ever since. A main priority for me is to help the community out even if sometimes I feel upper management don't appreciate my contributions. I have found a balance that works best for me. I feel that I don't need to play osu! to find enjoyment. I would rather work on creating things than playing songs.
Creating maps and making mods as always preoccupied my time. I have learned a lot about the game and the people who make the maps. I want to use my knowledge to help out the hopeless mappers out there, those who may be a little on the shy side. At the moment I have no internal need to be promoted from my job as support team, but sometimes I feel that the BATs could use my help. I have an aspiration that someday I will be promoted, but I am in no rush. My only haste is due to concern of the system itself. I want the system to work correctly and by not being a BAT I cannot contribute to the system to the fullest extent.
There was once a time when I did want the power and status, but I find those things meaningless now. My only want is more responsibility. I know I could make a difference if I was given the chance. I look at modding a different way than most other people do and I think that makes me a valuable asset. I don't have the capacity to make lots of mods, but I have my standards to fall back upon and a team to seek assistance if my standards fail me. I assure you that everything I have stated is completely genuine. I acknowledge that I am not the best mapper, modder, or player, but my talent is perseverance and dedication.
I am a much different person than I was 8 months ago. I am stronger, more assured of myself. I feel that I know where I belong in the osu! community. This is what I want and have passion for. How many can say that they mod with passion? The flame still burns within me even though my mapping activity has died and my mods are limited. I am waiting for the next exciting (<-hah!) chapter to unfold that will inspire me to better myself. The road is too long to take alone.
