All the way up until his death, Jimmy Carter would be the face of humanitarian efforts and peace around the globe. During his presidency, he achieved peace between Egypt and Israel, healthcare reform, SALT II, Iranian hostage crisis, and many more domestic and foreign affairs. He and his wife Rosalynn were key figures in Habitat for Humanity, travelling extensively to conduct peace negotiations, further the eradication of the infectious disease, Guinea worm, volunteering and raising awareness for affordable housing, all leading to the creation of the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project.
Even after his presidency, Jimmy always placed a deep emphasis on his values. He could've used his popularity in certain states to elevate his financial wealth, but Jimmy would not stand for it. He started his own public library, established the Carter Center to expand human rights, monitor elections, even teaching kids at school, and dabbling in poetry.
On December 29th, 2024, Jimmy Carter sadly passed away. Suffering from metastatic melanoma, he died of old age. His death to some marked a critical moment in United States politics, symbolising the dying moments of humanitarian aid and peace in America. We are entering a time where the US no longer wishes to be the global hegemony that it always has been, a time where acts of kindness, humbleness and humility are no longer present in the office. It's going to get hard, but remember, Jimmy Carter's peace, humbleness and spirit will always be with us.
