minecraft lives yet again, with a new map and a lot less mods!

factions + osuauth + chunkbreedlimit + irc integration + mineshafter-squared

players without a registered copy of minecraft but used mineshafter on the old server should visit here and sign up for a new mineshafter account!

Server Rules


1.) Factions are made to prevent outside raids, NOT to cause inside raids. Joining factions to "steal" will be considered as unnecessary griefing since that defeats the purpose of the Faction function. First offence is a total wipe of player data. Second time is banishment, no excuses.

2.) Although raids are allowed, keep in mind that if you start a war with another faction or player, then expect to get hit back. Items lost won't be replaced in this matter.

3.) Don't use cheats that give a totally unfair advantage such as the "xray" mods or "ore trackers". Learn how to mine without them.

I managed to sign in with mineshaftersquared.
But when connecting to osu!craft I get "failed to verify username"
Perhaps you can add mineshaftersquared to the server too?

Players in a faction with only one person in it (solo faction) will have this advantage
-Able to protect items and land
-Able to claim land from other factions
But with the side effect of
-Easy to lose everything due to low power

In short, there's no reason not to make a personal faction.

Non-faction players' hideouts are invisible. Bandit camp, anyone?

Not sure of that yet since that's up to Eph. But, the Factions Plugin has it's own minimap which is good enough for now. The Dynamap is nice, but the recoil of it is when greifers use it to target areas.

Edit: Just about finished the SafeZone near spawn. Couldn't move the spawn itself to it though.

yeah dynmap was a mixed blessing last time since it pretty much allowed griefers to join solely to wreck shit, which was kind of lame for people when towny and griefprevention broke that one time.

i don't know, maybe dynmap will go up once people have finished building in a couple of weeks or so. maybe.

But still have to test the effectiveness of how the Factions is used first before considering it. And we're using the dev bukkit build right?

Don't add dynmap, it makes raiding too easy.

PROGUY has quite a nice looking base from the outside. How pretty!

It's funny, with 9 land and 10 power, if someone were to kill him he would lose it all!

He has more than one floor! How fascinating!

make sure the name of your linked account is the name of your mc account - there is 0 room for error at the server end

Any plans to add economy + buying claims?

There's been some talk about iconomy, which would do that, but dkun would have to convince eph to add it back. I think the biggest hurdle in that case would be dealing with updates - the current setup only requires waiting for bukkit test builds after an update, instead of stable builds + several plugin updates like the old server.

Oh, wait, not buying claims, buying power, I mean. Would it be possible? As long as it's controlled (cap or something), it shouldn't make some factions too overpowered.

I think that's not necessary at all. 10 Power per member is actually good enough. For factions with only one person, he alone can already take up quite a good space for a decent base with 9 used Power (48 x 48 claimed land). If there's not enough room, you could just either find new recruits or make your base taller.

I'm also against currency systems, because I like the fact that people should find a way to get their own resources in nearby lands and then perform trades in spawn, just like how it works similarly in real life (TM).

Joke aside, I assume you mean not being able to spawn diamonds out of mid-air by paying a sign or something, and I can agree with that. Currency between players is a lot more flexible than bartering though.

Buying things unable to get in survival for exorbitant prices like spawn eggs was great though imo. Maybe do the same with monster heads

How did that happen anyway? Aren't claims protected already? It'd take a lot of tnt to total a claimed area.

I took a quick look over there to see the damage. It looks more as if the person lured creepers into the weak points of the claim(s). So it would be best to watch how you build from this point.
