both DirectX and OpenGL.

just act as same as unlimited frame rate.

I can confirm this.

CustomFrameLimit = anything other than 60 or 120 will osu ignores current fps setting and allow fps run amok. I get roughly 1000fps at song selection screen even when current setting is "unlimited (game play)"

Try setting it to 250 or 260, that should be more than enough.

i see, that means it won't be super accurate but still work in some way.

Because of imprecisions, the frame limit you actually get is usually 15-20% more than what you specify. I want 250 FPS, so I set my limiter to 200 and get 250 instead.

Wait... did I mis-understand what the custom frame limiter is supposed to do? Is it meant to kick in only when selected, or is it meant to set a new global limit even when not selected?

My computer for example: Before I go and modify the CustomFrameLimit, the fps reported under Unlimited (gameplay) is 130fps (1st picture). Unlimited gives 2500+ fps as intended.

After I changed CustomFrameLimit = 240 this is what I got (2nd pic): 293 fps when not playing instead of 130 fps, despite I have the same Unlimited (gameplay) selected.

Is this a bug or working as intended?

Unlimited (gameplay) uses your frame limiter setting for menus and unlimited FPS ingame. Frame limiter doesn't affect Unlimited or Vsync.

Hmm ok thanks for confirmation.

That means for someone who spends more time chating than playing, it's more energy efficient to stick with the unmodified CustomFrameLimit.
