Hello and gratz on Qualify.

But i have one big problem with the Mapset. There is a spread issue which i would like to address.

[Advanced]
My problem is what happens from 00:58:324 - to 01:08:832 - and from 01:16:968 - to 01:18:663 - , while the 2nd one isn't that tragic.

Let us first focus on 00:58:324 - to 01:01:036 - .
The Main issue i see here is the spread from Novice (Which represent the Normal) to Advanced (Which represent the Hard). Let me show you what i mean with a screenshot:

At the right we see the Novice, at the left we see the Advanced. You jumped from very easy Long note usage directly to 1/4 usage. And this is the problem. That makes the spread from Normal to Hard way too huge. Imagine you are a Normal player which just managed to S the Normal, wants to try the hard and gets hit by a wall off 1/4 Note. That can be very frustrating.
A solution would be to remove the 1/4 and map the stream with 1/2 notes only or, if you think that's too easy, keep additionally the two longest LN's you have in this part.
But like this that's way too harsh.

Then let us jump over to 01:03:747 - till 01:08:832 -

Once again an even longer closed 1/4 stream, for a hard while using in the Easy LNs with 1/1 singles. As you can imagine that's even worse because of the length. You need to nerf this one as well. My suggestion would be using here LN's + 1/2 notes. The LN's would go from:
01:03:747 - to 01:05:103 -
01:05:103 - to 01:05:781 -
01:05:781 - to 01:06:459 -
And from 01:06:459 - to 01:07:815 - . The reason i choose these timings is because you have here in the backgrounds Piano pads exactly in this length. Instead of follow the guitar, how you mostly did, it gives a cool variety to the whole Map. Maybe you could apply these even to the other diffs.

Then you use from 01:07:815 - to 01:08:493 - 1/2 and here you can map the kicks with 1/4. That would be okay.

Let's head over to 01:16:968 - till 01:18:663 - . The spread here looks already a bit better but i still have a problem with the length of the 1/4 pattern. You used here an Jumpstream. A Jumpstream in a Hard! That's too much. 1/4 Jumpstreams are pattern which find better use in Insane difficulties. But since you used already an LN+1/2 Notes in the previous difficulty, nerfting this to the exact same wouldn't work out because of the next difficulty.

Therefore my suggestion is here to use a simple 1/4 stream.. and when i say simple i really mean simple. Do not change unnecessary suddenly the hands. A good pattern could be a simple roll like this:
The Pattern on the screen beginn at 01:16:968 - .

Remaining looks okay. But like i said. The spread is way too harsh here and needs to get nerfed. It doesn't have to be necessarily like i suggested but something have to be changed here.

[Avalon's OVERDRIVE]
Just 1-2 quick suggestions.
01:00:951 (60951|2,61036|2) - This here is a really really ugly Minijack. I missed it like 3 times in a row because it came rather surprising. I really would suggest you to remove 01:00:951 (60951|2) - . Rather have a little inconsistency than a pattern which plays bad. An other idea would be to remove a note from 01:01:036 (61036|2,61036|0,61036|3) - but that's not that good because these hands are connected with the next 3 one.

That's all.

Like i said, the biggest issue here is the spread between NOVICE and ADVANCED.

This mindset is exactly why we need to go back and fix this problem, it's been ignored for years because lol just play without hitsounds, which is straight up ignorant. Especially coming from a former BN.

Yeah, some of the samples are indeed too quiet, and that's my fault for not having noticed it (ha, see what I did there, ok no). Anyways, I think only the soft-hitclap2 and normal-hitfinish2 are really too quiet. Everything else can just have their sample volume increased. Ash and I are still discussing what we deem as acceptable and unacceptable as we've only just started enforcing this a bit suddenly, so I think it's fine to have a bit of leeway in how we handle this while we figure it out.

Also, it's probably better to increase hitsound volume to 60% in all diffs.

(actually just sent the samples over discord cause it's more convenient.

Admittedly this was a bit sudden and I just checked all qualified maps at once (I did mention that in recently ranked Invoker though and that had a DQ for the same thing too), but opening a thread to discuss the matter seems pointless - this is a rule that was put in place in very early mania days, probably even in 2013 and it just wasn't respected for a ridiculously long time.

It was peppy's voice in the matter too, when people were discussing the need of hitsounds, he stepped in and said that all maps in osu need to have hitsounding, even stating that he can unrank some maps if that's an issue.

I'm pretty sure you can look up that thread in mania subforum in few minutes.

The hitsound volume crusade is moreso a statement that there is something really wrong and maybe it's time to sort this issue out.

It's not even a big change in mapping. It's actually ridiculous that something like that is an issue when people already take their time to find suitable samples and place them on the playfield - in at least 60% of cases all you need to do is select all timing points and move one slider to raise the hitsound volume.

It literally takes a quarter of the time you spend on placing all hitsound samples to play your nap on autoplay with 100% effect volume, then 0% effect volume to see if hitsounds are actually distinct and audible enough so you hear diffrent sounds when you actually play the map, and then adjust the mentioned slider so it fits.

The only time when it would take longer is if you would have one or more sample which is too quiet while rest is okay, but that should also be very easy to notice, just harder to find actual good sample. This is where you would ask for help though if you have a problem with it.

It's not a change of standards in mania mapping - it's enforcing something which should be the core of hitsound standards for years.

Maybe I, or one of the QATs (as formal representatives of the gamemode's mapping scene) should make an informational thread on the issue, why does it exist and how to make sure it's fixed, but I'll leave that for them to decide.

Of course, this is not directed at Leonita or this specific map, everyone makes mistakes and Leo is making changes so it's all good, thank you. (I can recheck hs volume tomorrow if you want me to btw if you remind me in-game)

Any difficulty can be hitsounded in any fashion, realistically speaking. Since these are GDers' diffs, I wouldn't think this would be overly crucial to try and nitpick these for the sake of consistency. For things like this, I'd leave it down to the mapper/GDers to figure this one out. Making these consistent is fine, but leaving as is seems like a valid option to me as well. (All things considered, GDers can go on massive tangents and hitsound their diff completely differently as seen here, and that's still fine.)

Concerning the hitsound inconsistencies between Leonita's diffs, the different hitsounding patterns could be intentional. Again, more or less up to the mapper's discretion on these about whether this needs to be changed.


Just as a side note, Arzenvald has (ranked) maps under more names than two (namely Miyamoto Usagi and ajeemaniz) so I'm just wondering why those aren't in the tags. This might have been addressed earlier, I dunno, I can't find it in the thread if it is there.

If this needs to be taken down quickly to fix things, just let us know. It's no biggie.

idk but I was sad what you said instead of clarifying the mistake, I did it thinking that you forgot to add the finish (novice) for consistency in the last part.

additionally another concern that I have is the diff novice 01:40:527 (100527|2,100866|2,101205|2) - idk if also this was intentional but these LN should be changed to SN for consistency and also for this diff since it is a bit difficult with LN short even in the diff advanced has SN.


Anyway it is missing a few minutes for the ranked and if you think it is less relevant then nothing has happened but that was my concern, sorry but i hope you understand me.

As for hs in my diff, it was intentional to make it different from leoni's main set (I did hs by myself) and it's ok to keep it this way. thank you for the check but I think it's the best to check major and unrankable issues instead if exist, because it's often not being checked at all ;)

And for tag, I remember QAT and mods can change the web tag?

Allright, first let's identify all the hitsound that could be the issue.

BSC - NVC - ADV - EXH

  • There are only two possible issue, the one is really 'minor', which is the 'bassdrumkick' used on soft-hitwhistle2 that is missing on some lower diff because of lesser NOTE and lesser density(could hardly be any problem, so this should be fine)


    Next, is the usage of the 'default soft-hitwhistle' throughout this 4 difficulty.
    (not really a problem, but sure... it does sounds a bit unusual)
  1. The triplet whistle here 01:09:341 - , 01:09:510 - , 01:09:680 - , exist on ADV - EXH
    but doesn't exist on BSC - NVC(BSC can be ignore... XD)
    .
    .
    NVC, exclusive effect that other difficulty don't have.
  2. on , 01:11:713 - triplet whistle, but none on ADV - EXH
    on , 01:14:425 - triplet whistle, but none on ADV - EXH
    none for BSC as well, just a bit weird of the skip
    .
    .
    Then, not much issue, but it might somehow looks inconsistent (it's not because of less note, but still... can be change if you want to)
  3. 00:19:849 - and 00:20:188 - extra whistle on NVC - ADV - EXH but none for BSC
    .
    .
    At NVC - ADV - EXH,This 5 and 3 whistle, sounds like you follow the vocal.
  4. 01:34:764 - ,01:34:934 - ,01:35:103 - ,01:35:273 - ,01:35:442 - this 5 and
    01:35:781 - ,01:35:951 - ,01:36:120 - this 3.
    but then, some other whistle here doesn't even follow vocal like... 00:51:375 - ,00:51:544 - ,00:51:713 -
    perhaps... this 3 is the source of all weird stuff?
    this 3 is either too fast in your usual delay before another 3 whistle.... or
    is it just missing a whistle to match with your Whistle pattern 01:30:866 -
To solve most of the point above, you can simply remove the extra whistle on higher diff(easier)
or change the whistle rhythm into other pattern that share the same throughout the whole difficulty.
(Like.... following Arzenvald or Avalon's whistle rhythm)
