Not sure if that has been pointed out already, but Cutting-Edge OpenGL build makes mouse extremely unresponsive, it overdraws and reacts slower than in DirectX. Reports/sec stays at maybe 10 less and ms is 2-3, meanwhile it's 0-1 in Stable-Beta-Cutting Edge(Not OpenGL)
I'm not sure if you are supposed to report a bug/glitch about c.e here (as what the title says)
But Ive found a glitch where, whenever you pressed F2(Random) and quickly use Shift+F2. The background glitches to the background that uses the next randomized map.
Kinda hard to see it, but the skin button is still there.
For some reason, i wasn't able to recreate it on the default skin.
It didn't occur 100% of the time. If there was ever a period of "buffering" during the break, it always showed up without fail. And if the player paused, it would go away for the rest of the song.
If you spectate or watch replays and press 7 / 8 / 9 to speed it up and quit then, the song is still played with this speed. If you restart the song (pressing "play" in the musicplayer in the main menu or chilling in song selection), the speed is still the same. Only changing the song in the main menu or in song selection is solving this issue.
I've just got an extremely weird file corruption. I'm not sure if it's been caused by osu! cutting-edge at all since that kind of thing is pretty rare, but I'll leave it here, just in case.
I noticed it when I booted the game and watched a replay, after having played a few hours ago. The file's last modified and last access date themselves haven't changed.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this just an issue with certain old maps that have a beatmap skin? (Even if you have beatmap skins disabled.)
No, it doesn't have skinned textures. I've first tried disabling the storyboard (this is a pretty new map by the way), then switching to the default skin. Seeing that it had something to do with my skin, I went in edit mode to see if there were storyboard objects (there weren't any), then I selected the spinner and I noticed it was the spinning texture that had been modified.
So here's my problem, I accidentally clicked OpenGL because of some lag issues but then when I open my osu! again the screen turned black but there's still a sound coming from it. I even tried to restart my laptop, just in case, but still nothing happened. I re-downloaded it too but it's still the same.

Hold SHIFT and open osu!.exe (while holding shift) and change to DirectX again? (And if that doesn't work click the 'repair osu!' button.)

I've looked at bit into the Windows Event Log and I've found this particular event (event ID 245), probably around the time I closed the game and before I noticed the file corruption a few hours later:
Description translates to: The application osu!.exe locked 4 times the main surface.
Although this entry appears a few times in the event log, this is the first time a corruption occured. Perhaps this event is not the direct cause of that bug.
I'm sure this has been posted before (I'd be surprised if it wasn't) but I've been having trouble adding multiple beatmaps at the same time for a long time now:
I would go into the download page of chrome and click on multiple beatmaps and only the first one gets added, last time I've tried opening them in the folder, it also did that
Scrolling chat with mouse wheel in result screen not working
Scrolling chat with scroll wheel when you're in the result screen scrolls result screen instead. Note that you can still scroll the chat with Page Up and Page Down button.
Try it yourself. --- Thanks VeilStar for merging my post here, i should've post my cuttingedge problems here anyway.
One more stuff, Collections get a bit wonky after finishing a song, it only shows your first and your last collection. You can refresh it by switching to other tabs (ex. No Grouping) and the clicking the Collection tabs again.
Thanks VeilStar for merging my post here, i should've post my cuttingedge problems here anyway.
No worries. CuttingEdge specific issues should be posted here, while issues that appear on both CE & Stable are meant to have a separate thread.
About the issue itself though... There was an issue on all builds recently where you could not scroll the chat by clicking & dragging the chat on the results screen. It would scroll the results screen instead of the chat. The sroll-wheel worked fine though. That has already been fixed though (it works fine now on Stable), but for some reason this appeared on CE. Not sure what happened.

As for this issue; I've had a small chat with Tom94 after this post/thread. See this thread regarding this issue. (I didn't really think about when posting but it should have technically been posted in this thread aswell. Ohwell...) Fixed now.
Issue(s) in this thread have been addressed by the following changes:
Don't display not found message when the default Songs folder doesn't exist after installation. (smoogipooo)
The changes will be applied to builds newer than b20150416ce45.
Please follow up in this thread if you believe more work needs to be done to fix the mentioned issues. If they have not yet been resolved, please provide any new details that may have arisen after this build.
Servers seem to be slow at the moment. Your play is submitted though as it's on the historical tab on your profile. You'll get it eventually. Also please keep this thread for issues that only appear in the cutting-edge thread. This is a server/network issue, not a cutting-edge build issue. Just for your information.
in borderless mode, when i edit a map and then exit out of it without saving, the entire osu window minimises
third problem (having trouble replicating)
When the second problem happens, there is a case where the editor background turns completely black. No matter what button you press (exit, yes, no, cancel) you cannot close the editor/osu and it just minimizes. alt+f4 doesn't work and must close by ending osu.exe process. This would probably affect people who read mods on their map, apply them, and forget to save before closing resulting in a lot of map changes lost.
A replicate method for problem three would be the following:
1. Launch osu! in borderless mode 2. Open editor and open up any map 3. move any element in editor (circle/slider) on the playing field 4. alt-tab to a window which is maximized (eg. maximized google chrome, maximized windows explorer, etc.) 5. alt-tab back to osu! 6. press esc 7. problem appears
I don't know if this method is reliable, but it happens to me when I do it
edit: problem one has been solved in next update but problem two and three still persist (maybe it's just me) b20150421.4 cutting edge

obs(Open Broadcaster Software) cannot catch anything with the latest cuttingedge version. I've tried stable and beta, obs can catch both.
It works for me.
Make sure you have the latest version of OBS installed, and check the Game Capture settings (select osu! in the application list, and check "Stretch image to screen" to fix the image not being the right size)

That's right, DX is not available anymore in cuttingedge. Beta and Stable are currently older builds and on .net 3.5 (i think), so DirectX is still an option there.
OpenGL feels more responsive than DX in the cuttingedge build though. (also a small FPS boost for me)
It doesnt matter of course since i cant see any differnce but my Fps went down from 800 to 500. As i said: Not like it would make a difference.
Im just curious now: Why did this change happen and are the benefits of it or better what should the benefits be?
Not sure if its the right post to ask but maybe it is: After the new Cutting Edge if i change my Resolution (make it lower) the window gets smaller instead having the resolution on fullscreen.
That's what I asked as well. Currently there is no real fullscreen option. (That's probably why your FPS went down a bit as well)
Benefits: (Hopefully) performance increase, better Linux/Mac support, not being bound to a dead game toolkit (XNA) and thus not being bound to DirectX 9, and probably a few more things, but I'm not one of the devs so I could only guess further than that.
If anyone is still experiencing texture corruption AFTER this change, then please let us know by posting here. Hopefully texture corruption does not occur anymore.
Hello, sorry if somebody has already reported this since your fix, but I am still experiencing the same issues as [ Rizen ]. Thank you in advance for looking further into the matter again.
(Slider texture disappears when selected in editor.)
Found a small bug, focusing the osu!window and pressing F10 immediately, freezes the game in one frame. (Its still working in the background though) After any user input (mouse/kb) it resumes.
If anyone is still experiencing texture corruption AFTER this change, then please let us know by posting here. Hopefully texture corruption does not occur anymore.

The slider texture disappearing in the editor is not tecture corruption but another bug. Thanks for the mention, though.
So borderless comes. And what about real fullscreen?
Cutting Edge should run borderless fullscreen in exclusive mode automatically, meaning you have the same responsiveness as real fullscreen. It is known to us that on some devices (for instance some integrated graphics) this does not function properly and we are investigating why this is the case.

Unfortunately, it still isn't as responsive as the good old fullscreen mode. It's just like the borderless mode before CE45. I suspect that it is because DWM is still active and double buffers the window even though vsync is disabled in game.
(You can easily check for tearing by going in the offset wizard.)
I guess I'll switch back from cutting-edge for the time being. :/
Could you let me know what hardware you are running on? This is one of the cases I mentioned where for some reason it fails to acquire exclusive fullscreen mode. On my PC for instance I do get tearing and I do get the responsiveness of direct X actual fullscreen.

I might have the same issue? I can't see any tearing anywhere, and while the game generally isn't that noticeably different from before with DirectX, it has a ton of tiny stutters now, to the point of making osu!mania extremely annoying to play to say the least.
OS: Win 8.1 x64 CPU: Intel i3-2370M @ 2.40GHz GPU: Intel HD 3000 (I'm assuming this one falls under the "some integrated graphics", then.)
Well I've got an extremely weird issue. I could try some things out later to see if anything on my end can work around/fix the issue, but for now at least, here's what happens: I get a very quick flash where my screen turns black when a beatmap goes from a 'break' to 'playing'. At first I tried to record it with Dxtory, but that did NOT record the black flash at all, everything was normal in there (even at 120fps recording and going trough it frame by frame).
So I took my (not so) good old camcorder out and recorded this. Excuse the horrible quality.
I think I see when/why this happens now. It seems I get this 'black microflash' when osu! switches from/to this 'exclusive mode', because I can feel the difference in cursor lag. Might have something to do with running multiple monitors or SLI or so though. But I'll have a look at that later.

Edit: So... This seems to ONLY happen when using my tablet to play. When I use my mouse this 'black flash' does NOT happen. Using Windows 7 (64 bit), my tablet is a Wacom CTH-480. Running 2 580s and 2 monitors, if that matters at all.
Edit: I can also confrim the following

1. FPS drops significantly and the game stutters on some heavy-storyboarded maps when storyboard is enabled. 2. A huge problem I encountered is something general alt tabbing, here's some issues:
* Alt-Tabbing back to the game leaves Windows mouse and/or Windows taskbar for a sec or two (I don't use windows transparency, if that helps) * Alt-Tabbing out of the game during the pause will make the song go on once the break is over, meanwhile on stable, the game pauses if you are alt tabbed after the break ends. * Alt-Tabbing between Osu and your main thing, let's say, browser, is super inconvenient. On stable, Alt tabbing two times quick will go from Osu to Browser and back to Osu. Now, it's always another tasks like Skype getting in between.

alt-tab issues are due to the game running in exclusive full screen mode use a windowed resolution until we get borderless working again.

Woah there, I'm really sorry if I sounded rude, but I'm really willing to help ! That's why I'm reporting here. It's just that I can't enjoy playing as much in this state.

It never did and never will. Why would you expect this to be the case?
Poor wording. Of course you can power off your monitor, but I meant the Windows settings to automatically stop video output after a certain time you define in this screen:
I believe all Windows games (DirectX ?) prevent this from happening, including osu! pre-CE45 merge.
The latest build has spawned a couple of problems on wine. I am using the cutting edge build because the previous builds had a bug when losing focus more than once would cause it to stop rendering graphics.
Osu! resizes the monitor it's run on to 1024x768: http://a.pomf.se/lnjyos.png (There are two monitors here. The left monitor is always 1024x768. The right monitor is usually 1920x1080, and has been resized by Osu to 1024x768. The framebuffer has not been resized, so it goes into a strange mouse cursor panning mode. Everything below the left monitor is artifacts from the gpu and is normal, since that area isn't mapped to any physical screen. I know this screenshot is a mess, but that's partly due to the resize.)
It then draws itself on the other monitor: http://a.pomf.se/dbrecm.png (Interesting to note: it leaves a gap at the bottom despite being 1024x768)
No option for 1920x1080 resolution is displayed in the graphics options, only resolutions <= 1024x768
The bug mentioned at the top of this post, previously fixed in cutting-edge versions, is back. I think that might just be the removal of borderless mode (I saw this implied earlier in the thread), but I didn't stick around in Osu long enough to find out or take note.

I have the exact same issue as you. Please tell me if there is any way to fix this.
i think the recent borderless alt-tabbing fix created an issue with exiting a map after making changes. the dialogue box prompting you to save or discard changes that shows up just makes the game hide itself, and trying to click anything in the box makes it hide itself too. the game basically softlocks at this point, so i need to close it via task manager.
I'm getting some strange frame rate issues. Before today, I had vsync on (I play mania, hate tearing) and I could always run at a smooth 60fps, never dropping below. Now when I have vsync on I get severe stutters every 2 seconds or so, makes eye tracking the notes very difficult. But oddly, when I turn off vsync, my frame rate is still up above 100 (although I get tearing artifacts of course). Hypothetically this means that in vsync, I should be getting a healthy constant 60fps, but I am not... I switch back to stable for now...
OS: windows 7 CPU: Intel i5 2430M Graphics: integrated
edit: switched back to stable, and vsync is working perfectly again...

Okay, so here is something new, but related. I just discovered it, so I figured that I would take a picture.
I apologize if this post is redundant. Thanks again for looking into the matter~!
(Also, if it sounds like I am frustrated with the new cutting edge build editor, I am not. I trust that you will find the fix. You are doing a wonderful job. )
PS: Oh, and this is what the slider actually looks like for reference.
When the osu! window is active (fullscreen included), it does not prevent the monitor from going to sleep due to inactivity.
It never did and never will. Why would you expect this to be the case?
(Forgot to answer the actual question)
It's used for when you spectate someone without touching anything, watch a replay/Auto/Cinema mod longer than the time you have defined in your Windows settings. Right now you have to wake it up manually.
Lots of applications prevent this from happening (i.e most games, Flash player/HTML5 (videos on YouTube), VLC media player (videos, movies), Windows Image viewer (slideshows), etc.).

I just tried it and i got the Same issue, sadly...
which issue?
The same as the person above me when I posted that. No tearing, implying some sort of vsync/buffering is going on, (the non-exclusive fullscreen thing?) no matter what frame limiter is set to, and very small stuttering that makes it really annoying to play mania since the scrolling notes don't scroll smoothly any more.
Im playing at uncapped fps and 120 in menu and still have the feeling its not as responsive as a real fullscreen. could be me though! Cant spot any tearing, what also could be me.
Problem Details: When in fullscreen (OpenGL 1366x768), opening the song setup in the editor causes the dialog box to multiply infinitely. You must exit osu through Task Manager when this happens. Not confirmed if it could be replicated or if this post is a duplicate.
The White box reminds me of something: Top right corner in main menut doenst shows the song but instead a white box jsut like the cursor. Happens randomly.

Yes, this is a duplicate, but no worries. Also, I can confirm. I don't recall how to replicate the infinite window issue. In any case, with any popup window, osu! minimizes, and if it is clicked, it closes. Oops. Nevermind, it's fixed. Thanks.

This fix did not fix it for me. I switched back to cuttingedge build and onto the "Vsync" option, and now my frame rate is not limited properly. The FPS counter in the corner of the screen is displaying 100-150 fps (my monitor is 60Hz so it should be limiting at 60fps in vsync, which it still correctly does in stable build). It's acting the same way as "Unlimited".
I've been getting this thing where I will edit a map, but the second I open the Song Setup window, Osu! minimizes and proceeds to spawn infinate song setup windows in the upper left of my screen until it lags out and crashes my PC.

Hmm... Have you updated to the latest cutting edge build? I and others have experienced the same issue in the previous build (minus the PC crashing). However, since the last update, this issue has been resolved for me. I don't know, are others still experiencing this issue?
If it still continues, try windowed. That should help you at least for now.

Adding onto my last post (issue under WINE): It seems like it tries to swap the resolution of the two monitors. My large monitor gets set to 1024x768 and they both get put into panning mode with a virtual 1920x1080 resolution. That is, I have a 2048x768 visible area at all times spread across both my monitors, mapped to a virtual 2944x1024 area that can be scrolled with the cursor. There doesn't seem to be a fullscreen/windowed toggle, which is unfortunate.
edit: switching to the beta channel gives me best of both worlds - working osu with no screen resolution changes, and borderless mode that supports losing focus under wine. I'll stay there for the time being.
- Had broken textures (white boxes on hitcircles/sliders, and main menu triangles didn't work (can't remember exactly what was wrong; i'll update later if I try it out again)
- No exclusive fullscreen mode (not sure if intentional or not; preferably I'd like to have exclusive fullscreen over borderless though)
- As a result of no fullscreen mode; AMD VSR resolutions aren't usable (which isn't a huge concern at all for a majority of people/cases; pretty sure nobody cares about downsampling osu! :p)
- osu! started on the non-primary screen (I use 3 monitors; center is primary, but osu! started on the left monitor; haven't tried using the cfg to change this, but Stable and Beta builds automatically choose center)
I've got the same problem as VeilStar over here: p/4078997
It's like a 1 or 2 frame black screen over all screens (not just the one osu runs on) and only when using the same resolution as the monitor I'm playing on.

Hello again. So I don't know if this is already a known issue or not, but in spectator mode, the skip button remains during game play. I remember this occurring in previous builds. Unfortunately, I do not know how to replicate, except that it appears to be random.
This was just after updating to the latest cutting edge build.
While it's not quite clear what "Various exclusive fullscreen issues" means exactly, it didn't seem to do anything for me at least. It still looks and stutters the same as before.
My problem just happened again and I'm not sure why. Each time I let cutting edge receive an update not of the beatmaps load when I try to play. The beatmap count not be loaded successfully notification displays. It fixes itself when I go back to a different build and update to cutting edge. It doesn't affect my debug build, possibly because it doesn't receive files in this way.
so this is the go to for posting CE build issues eh?
well, i would like to report a still on-going issue with the triangles. after a while of running, FPS drops down from greater then 130 to around 30-40 fps. on top of that, my computer gets hot. all this happens after a couple minutes of runtime. it isnt thermal throttling becuase whenever that happens, my fps drops down to about 3-5fps at couple-second intervals.
usually thermal throttling or overheating doesn't happen unless i play demanding games like crysis, battlefield, mirrors edge, ETC.; and even then, i have my laptop sitting on a cooling pad
i remember thevileone mentioned that the performance issue was fixed. but i wonder if certain GPU's still have a compatability issue. -----
i run unlimited FPS with directx render. i dont run opengl all the eye candy is disabled (shaders, lighting effects, you name it) so i can run osu with no FPS drops. i use Veilstars skin on his user page.
i run a DELL INSPIRON N7110 16:9 widescreen laptop
with the stable and beta build, i can get up to 150-200fps easy while capping at a cool and stable temperature, but still; cutting edge is cutting edge =S
A known issue. Not cuttingedge specific though. See t/215455
Foolish me. Why don't I use the search function on the website? ...
Anyway, I thought this was an isolated incident restricted to a certain beatmap of mine, but popup windows in the editor (both borderless and bordered) remain inactive. I guess this is a rehash of what PolkaMocha already reported.
Strangely, this was fixed for me (see my response to PolkaMocha), but then suddenly began to reoccur. I don't remember if this was just after I updated to a newer build or what.
Also, this has happened across beatmaps and computers, just something to note.
