Minimalist Math

A minimalist LaTeX math font based skin with lots of glowing elements

Updated to Vphi Final on 13/11/2020

I wanted to use this skin because it looked cool but every other skin was more readable. For that reason, I have made several readability improvements while also keeping true to the skin's original intent. There were also a lot of inconsistencies that I didn't notice till after I had done some mapping.

- made HSoverlay circle border thinner. stacks are much easier to read
- changed cursor to have a clear boundary
- dimmed hit circle colours to not outshine the cursor
- changed followpoints to be readable
- changed spinner to approach circle spinner
- moved to Idke hitsounds but kept most menu sounds default
- Fixed other smaller inconsistencies with UI

This skin is awesome, bad part is cursor and spinner in my opinion.

Thanks! I will have to admit that the spinner is a bit dull, and I have a few new designs in mind.

What in particular do you think is bad about the cursor? I thought it was small and precise and yet easy to see because of the large amount of glow. Is it because it's the same colour as the hit circles, making it harder to see? Maybe it's the yellow trail making it look like the Rafis HDDT skin?

Edit 04/01/2020: The cursor and spinner has been changed

The Spinner is quite annoying as you ca not see the exact center of it making my spins messy and in turn ngetting lower spm and when there are circles behind the spinner you can not read the ar as it is completely hidden by the spinner, even with the updated spinner. But other than that great skin.

Yes. I've updated the skin again, hopefully the spinner is more readable now

\title{Thoughts on the skin "Minimalist math [STD, 16:9]"}
\author{Castagne}

\begin{document}

\maketitle

This paper will review the skin "Minimalist math [STD\footnote{STD refers to the gamemode "osu!standard; the most played gamemode in the game osu!}, 16:9]"\footnote{\href{https://osu.ppy.sh/community/forums/topics/997817}{Topic discussing said skin}} made by the user Tejmaster\footnote{\href{https://osu.ppy.sh/users/9257042}{osu! profile for said user}} for the free rhythm game osu!\footnote{\href{https://osu.ppy.sh}{osu! website}}. I think said skin is really nice, although it has a few shortcomings. \medskip

"PERFECTO" does not really match the nerdiness, you could have something like "Qed" instead. Furthermore $\{\approx,300\}$ seems inaccurate because you can view a combo as an $n$-ary tuple where $n$ is equal to the number of hitobjects in said combo. Hence I would put something like $(x_0,\dots,x_n | x_k \in \{\approx,300\})$ at this position instead. \medskip

The accuracy graph seems to output $P$ as a function of $t$ but $P$ is normally used for a Predicate thus it should output either 1 or 0. I think this function can better be denoted as $HP(t)$ since the player's health is displayed in this graph. \footnote{\href{https://github.com/ppy/osu/blob/master/osu.Game/Rulesets/Scoring/DrainingHealthProcessor.cs}{Algorithm used for calcuting HP in the gamemode STD}}

\end{document}

nice skin though

Good stuff. If I think of a more compact and accurate way to represent the combos then I'll update the skin again

rapid fire time

- cookie cover is too smal
- mode dropdown is not skinned
- cinema mod is not skinned, it's selection-mod-cinema
- the [START] thingy after you choose the map is not centered, is that on purpose?
- scorebar's animation is not that smooth, though i can appreciate the effort of having it animated
- put some spacing for the score numbers, i mean geez, let them breathe (set ScoreOverlap and ComboOverlap and 0 and see how that looks, you can also use negative numbers)
- i don't understand the idea behind ranking panel hitbursts, mind elaborating on that?
- novideo mod icon is no longer used
- what is Rules.png?
- taiko and fruits mode small have the same texture

- Nice find. Looks like my selection-mod image was too wide, so I was miss-centering the cookie by assuming it was in the corner
- I never use this, but I already had an idea in mind so I skinned it anyway
- True, should be skinned now
- No it isn't, good find. Apparently it also isn't @2x like the 3-2-1 stuff.
- I like the aesthetic of the low framerate tbh
- Spacing now set to 0, looks better
- {300} and {100,300} are mathematical sets that represent all possible hit results in a geki and a katu respectively. It would be more accurate to represent a combo as an n-ary tuple of hit-results such that all elements are a part of one of these sets as Castagne said, but that takes up too much space.
- removed.
- Rules.png is a failed attempt at segmenting the top panel, also removed now
- Yep. And now so does mania
