Alright, so I'm 95% sure that 99% of this community is at least a little bit nerdy, and that at least half of that is science nerds. Therefore, let's have a thread about it. Use this thread to post about different scientific, technological and socioeconomic phenomena that interests you. In this manner, we can all LEARN something.

As a Geomatics student, I am obsessed with maps, mapping, and the like. I like that maps and satellite imagery can be used to chart the growth of civilization. It's also used to choreograph urban planning and design. For example, I am fascinated by the plethora of content available on the Nevada Department of Transportation's official website (http://www.nevadadot.com/default.aspx). Here, not only can you find road conditions and general news for traffic within the Big Four cities (Reno, Carson City, Elko, Las Vegas); you can also see full information on upcoming projects, environmental analyses, corridor studies, and even traffic cameras to show the flow of vehicles along Nevada's freeways.

Take a look at this: http://www.nevadadot.com/uploadedFiles/NDOT/Projects_and_Programs/Road_Projects/Quarterly%20Report%20March%2031%202012.pdf

It's a quarterly project progress report for all the major highways and city streets within Nevada. Each project listed contains one to two pages displaying maps of the project area, related images, a point by point description, timeline, cost analysis, Risk v. Benefits analysis, and changes compared to the previous report. It's very in depth, and they try to update it every few months.

Perhaps your area has a similar website. If you find yourself interested in stuff like this, then I highly recommend looking into it!

That statement is a little vague, open to interpretation even. What does it mean to you? To me, it sounds like science would be about breaking the status quo, proving that what we thought we knew is simply not the case. It's like the Socratic method of Greek times, where the purpose of critical thought was to refute.

While I don't know too much about astronomy, I know of something that might just be of interest to you.

It's a lecture from the day before the landing of the Mars rover "Curiosity." Bill Nye discusses a lot about his contributions to the rover, and much about his father's work before him.

This isn't exactly science, but economics is still awesome, wouldn't you agree?

I took Macroeconomics for my associates a while back. I can honestly say I've only been that bored 3 other times in my life.

Are you kidding me? I aced Micro and Macro, that was some of the only stuff that I actually enjoyed.

I liked Macroeconomics. Learning about the Keynesian Model and how Trickle-Down Economics doesn't work was rather informative. Also, the magic that is banking and investing. Yes, it is magic. Voodoo magic.

the macroeconomy book written by Bush economist was fucking bad. ( U see Trade-Off between Inflation and Unemployment? )

Anyway, aced Chemistry and have to ace Physics, as if I don't ace it, that prof doesn't want to make me pass it.

Yes I'm gonna study physics in a American university, too.
I had fell in love with theoretical physics since I read a book which is called "Hyperspace: A Scientific Odyssey Through Parallel Universes, Time Warps, and the Tenth Dimension" by Michio Kaku.
