Everything I listen to is considered obscure by everyone else around here (Even Strapping Young Lad, what the hell) except for the TWEWY soundtrack. 'Cept Cheese knows (of) most of the bands I listen to. But I'll contribute anyway.

Pin-Up Went Down (Avant garde): I am not much for avant-garde music but I fell in love with this album pretty much the moment I've heard it and I haven't stopped listening to it since I came across it. Unexpect is another avant-garde band that I have had the pleasure of seeing live - I'm not too big on their music (yet, at least) but they are damn awesome live.

Ram-Zet (Gothic Avant-garde): Tied for first in my top two favourite bands. Beautifully crafted music, passionate duet vocals, and hypnotic violins, oh my.

Blind Stare (Melodic Death Metal): Best melodeath band I've ever heard~ there's a beatmap of Shotgun Symphony somewhere in osu!

Mirrorthrone ("Eclectic extreme symphonic metal" as they say, I'd argue that but don't know how to brand it, myself.): The elegant use of piano drew my attention immediately, and the building, often haunting melodies kept me in. The occasional use of falsetto is lulzy more than anything and feels out of place imo but it's rare throughout the only album I have, Gangrene.

CHOO-CHOO Nazgul (Folk/Black metal): Interesting, fun, often sounds-like-a-videogame music, gruesome lyrics (sung in latin so I don't understand them) and the most entertaining vocal work ever to have existed; tr00 kvlt is a vocalist that sounds like Thomas the Tank Engine.

SIGH (Post-black jazzy avant-garde metal): Plain and simple this band rules. I'm not a big black metal fan, but their latest efforts in Gallows Gallery and Hangman's Hymn are so much fun to listen to. Saw them live headlining in the same show Unexpect was at, and I really want to see them again. They're just awesome.

Apostasy (Melodic Black Metal) - oh, I miss these guys =( First black metal band I really liked. Vocals are pretty solid, which imo is rare for black metal.

DOOMSHINE (Melodic Doom Metal) For anyone who likes the Epicus Doomicus Metallicus album by Candlemass (which is often called the greatest doom metal of all time) will like this. I never liked Doom metal until I heard EDM (thought it was too slow and boring) and then DOOMSHINE came along, with rivaling quality. They have an eclectic mix of drone-ish doom and power-metal-esque guitar solos. Yum.

Alestorm (Folk/Power metal TRUE SCOTTISH PIRATE METAL): IT'S PIRATE METAL. That is all you need to know.

and for the record most commercial music is regurgitated trash imo =(

Ayreon
Oh shit I forgot to mention them (probably because I lost all my Ayreon mp3s) but I made a thread in random about them(/him???) that 0 people posted in despite Ayreon being truly awesome by gathering a bunch of already-awesome artists and collaborating them all into epic albums.

(Speaking of Prog I am listening to Dream Theater right now but I won't post about them because for the love of fuck they should really not be considered obscure.)

I guess Shaimus could be considered obscure...

...especially if by obscure you mean fucking awesome
