osu! Release (b20120525)

This release brings over a few of the song select changes I've applied while reworking the internals of osu!'s beatmap database (changes you won't feel until osz2 is completed). You can now group song selection by ranks achieved amongst other things. It also fixes the bugs introduced over the last few builds.

Please report any issues you have in the support forum, and please keep discussions in this thread level-headed!

update once again :3

Great! Just one small problem, in osu mode it shows I have 8 F grades but those diffs I haven't played at all, in taiko it is only 3 diffs. These songs are not any different from other songs, so I don't see why is this happening.

Incredibly silly noobish question: what is osz2?

Oh, of course! I knew I had heard 'osz' somewhere, just couldn't place it, hehe. What's new about osz2?

Sorry if this was all answered somewhere else. :/

Essentially, it's a "locked" archive, disallowing people from modifying the contents of the beatmap after it's been submitted. prevents people from just casually borrowing the mp3 for general use, among other things.

Can the map itself still be edited?
Azure_Kite
I'm not sure. You'd need to find out when it arrives, I guess.

The mapper would obviously be able to access the folder, I would presume.

[peppy] Add the ability to group song selection by achieved online ranks.
YES! I waited for something this like AGES!
...is what I'd want to say, but isn't it pretty much useless as it is now?
If I, say, had played a map on A with score of 1M, and then re-played it on 2M with B, it would still show "A" in the map list, and it would still be in "A" group when sorting by rank:

So it's a duplicate of sorting-by-rank, not "by online rank". Or was that fixed already?
YGOkid8
try the other sort by rank, the one where yours currently say Artist

EDIT: wait i think that's what you're talking about, dw

I guess this is incorrect behaviour which was introduced over the last few builds.

Please take a note: that "B" on my screenshot was achieved about 10 months ago.
Osu! behaves like that for a very long time already, and I considered it to be a feature (to show the highest achieved rank over all plays or something like that), even though it was useless and inconvenient for me. Was that actually a bug? Or not? I'll try to check if something changed in the behavior next time I get to play.

Or maybe, peppy, could you tell how it actually supposed to work? What rank should be shown at map selection screen, and what's the (supposed) difference in sorting by rank and sorting by (online) rank, aside from grouping?

Why was the absolute scroll taken off? I don't usually follow updates, but I've never seen any problems with it. I've got tons of maps and the fact that I have to right click to scroll them just makes it incredibly tedious and annoying, plus the fact that half the time I accidentally click on the map and pull up the options. Why was it removed?

If you have that many maps, absolute scrolling would be impossible to use. One pixel moves the maps about 5-10 panels if you have 5k+, so it was not usable anyway. Just right-click once to move to the rough position then drag to your final destination (or right-click again if you were off).

Not literally "tons" as in thousands, but maybe close to 300 separate maps, which really compress into about an average of ~100 panels. I got very used to the speed since I play quite often and now it's either painfully slow or zipping all over the place since I have to move the cursor away from the selected map to use absolute scrolling. I just don't see why it couldn't be left as an option; People could choose to leave it on or off. Was there a problem with the way it worked or something?

I think he took it out of the game because retards would turn it on by mistake and get confused.

But it kind of ruins it for those who are used to it, I've had a couple friends complain about it too. One thought her computer was lagging really badly for a while, but it was just the update. Sorry if it sounds like I'm whining, and I think the other updates are fine, it's just this one seems really unnecessary.

spun out gives me an error when submitting because I haven't updated

I will continue to remove options I don't deem necessary. Absolute sort causes more of a support headache than it's worth. I suggest you try getting used to living with it being bound to right-mouse button, since I don't have any plans of restoring it sorry.

Keep in mind you have the following options of navigating song select:

* Type a song name to filter it.
* Change group and sort options to make things more organised.
* Use Page Up/Page Down to quickly move through the song list.
* Use the arrow keys to move gradually. Can hold them to move faster.
* Drag using the left mouse button and "throw" the listing up or down with velocity.
* Hover the cursor at the top or bottom of the list area to very gradually scroll.
* Use the mouse wheel to scroll.
