In the osu! client, songs should be sortable/groupable by creation date.
As far as I can tell, beatmaps don't store their creation date and if they were to in the future, old beatmaps/downloads would not have this attribute. However, beatmaps have an ID which is stored.
A beatmap's ID is associated with the creation date and can be utilized to sort in ascending or descending order, but beatmap IDs can't be used to easily group by creation date. In this case, intervals of beatmap IDs can be utilized to group months and/or years, however this solution could be quite tedious.
I don't play osu! often anymore, but I do occasionally return for some nostalgia gameplay and immediately try to find maps from my favorite mapping eras.
Edit: The search on the old site might be broken, I searched for some threads that are clearly active and wasn't able to find them so when searching for this feature request, I wasn't able to get any results either. If this has been requested feel free to delete.
