I think it'd be helpful for those who have the a lot of the beatmap packs downloaded (for example, a mix of old and contemporary beatmaps) and find it hard to sort though the old, out dated maps and the newer maps. Obviously this shouldn't be of high priority, but it would be helpful.

I think a good starting point would be "year of ranking/approval".

Anything to further this suggestion is very welcome.

(EDIT: Oh, I guess unranked maps would have their own section/go at the bottom)

I'm Neutral about it.

I find this useful but unnecessary...

Useful: I'm a whore score ranker and I just wanna download Ranked (NOT APPROVED) songs. Not about me, but 'bout other users, you know-

Unnecessary: With "Ranked/Approved", the menu shows up all the songs to download, if those options were separated some users don't download approval maps or they just forget it.

As the ranking requirements have got more strict and the modding community has improved, newer maps are often in another style. It just feels completely different. Most time i just search through the maps with the "random search" and play any map i feel like. But sometimes i feel like playing an "oldstyle" map and as im not that good with names (esp. with asian ones) it takes ages to find one...

Maybe a little UI-Change would be enough for them: Just show the date of the ranking in the song-informations.

Wouldn't this mostly be the same as the currently existing date sort in conjunction with the "filter ranked" checkbox? Not saying it's a bad idea, just saying that there may be something that suits your needs already. Only exceptions I could think of would be older maps that got updates (usually to add epilepsy warning or some such) or maps you downloaded before ranking and didn't bother updating until way after ranking but those are pretty few in number.

Close but not quite... :)

Filter by date shows when you last played the beatmap, meaning that if you played the same beatmap everyday it would show up under "Today" everytime.

I support this filter, I would love to be able to find which maps that are newer and worth more pp! >:D

Seems useful...

Are you thinking Last Played? Playing a map shouldn't move your map anywhere in Date sort unless your Date sort is broken somehow. I use Show All > Date as my sort, and no matter what map I play, my most recently downloaded or updated maps are always on bottom.

It would be correct, if you always load the maps as they are ranked. That is because the date-sorting sorts your maps after the system-intern timestamp when you created the file. -> If i load a map from 2008 in Osu! today, it will appear as a Map from Nov 22 in the sorting.
For somebody active since 2007/2008 it should be almost the same.

I like this idea. I've downloaded the beatmap packs after already having about 7k beatmaps, and since the "sort by date" option uses the Windows "date modified", the order seems nonsensical. Especially when some of the older .osz files contain beatmaps that need to be updated (sometimes only one or 2 difficulties), which causes them to put them out of order and sometimes separate from the other diffs of the same song.

Approved songs count towards your ranked score, which is the reason why they are consolidated into one list.
And this is just a different type of "sort by date" option, not a way to separate ranked from approved.

If there is one thing that has buggered me for a very long time, this has to be it.

I wish we could have this suggestion worked into the game, and it's relatively simple to execute as well, I presume.

It really takes up a lot of time finding decent maps when you have 34905 beatmaps..

yea, this is needed.
i had to delete all older maps for now, because i don't want them to be mixed with the newer ones.

with the "sort by date added" tool btw.. I really want a sort by date ranked/approved ;_;
Shydon
I think it's a good idea to bring back the checkboxes for ranked, played... Now we are only allowed to use one filter, and that's a pain if you have a lot of unranked maps.

pls add this =~=

This would be really useful

For example when playing/practicing old maps which require a different set of skills to be played perfectly.
Would be great to easily seperate them from the newer maps.

There isn't even that much 2007 beatmaps (out of 9000 folders in my song folder)
But yeah, sort by ranked date would be nice
RaneFire
Please add this. How hard can this be? (serious question)

I download packs and don't always get to play everything. Before long, maps are mixed with older ones.

I re-installed my computer not too long ago and all folders inherit the copied date upon copying to a larger drive. Now I have no idea how old anything is in windows or osu! (looks to windows for "date added" basically), since the numbers in front of folder names don't necessarily mean ranked date.

Bump, Take my stars. Please implement, should be simple.

Hi, I was actually going to suggest this until I found this thread. You get all of my votes. :)

I am having difficulty jumping from the old maps that I'm used to (2007-first half of 2010) to today.

peppy, I know that you are incredibly busy, but it would be awesome if you could add in this feature for me. Thank you. :)

PS: It also might be good to do something with date first uploaded as well.
Dusk252
Would be really useful for when I feel like playing beatmaps from a certain anime season or something, as the ones I don't usually play end up lost. Overall just something I'd like to see anyway. Take my votes.

4years and this still isn't in ._.".

I loaded around 7,5k .osz map sets 2 days ago and got annoyed how maps from 2007 are first on my list(at the bottom) so I've tried few things...
I tried to workaround this and edit "Last modification time" for every beatmap in osu!.db- but it seems that osu! synchronizes these values again over time(causing chaos in song select).
However my other method seems to work just fine - http://osu.ppy.sh/ss/2897658 - but It requires deleting osu!.db(forcing osu! to reprocess beatmaps)
I'll be releasing this program tomorrow.

I still want it to be implemented directly in osu! tough- dropping 2 stars.

This is probabbly my most wanted feature ever....i can't really stand the new mapping meta and love to play oldstyle stuff, so it would be really convient to have this as a propper feature instead of having to delete my db. file qwq

Some days I like to play old school maps
Some days I like to play new maps
So, maybe someday filtering by date ranked will be a thing

Dropped a few stars, as a player that don't really like the old mapping style it would certainly be useful. Also got reminded of this when I'm asked to vote for my favorite 2015 map and I saw I had played like 15. Although I haven't played that much the past year it would be fun to do one last round up. Play some 2015 maps and get a few more to choose from =)

As much as I would like this to get implemented, i'm pretty sure upload date aren't include in beatmap data.

Bump and stars.
I really want this feature implemented as I love older style maps so much especially 2011 maps.
