I really have no clue at all how it rates songs...

For example, Air Gear - Chains is one of my harder songs, but still not very hard. 4 stars. Then I have Air Gear - Remix, which I made to be easy as hell, and believe me, it is...3.5 stars.

The differences between these two maps are drastic so I am wondering how exactly Osu! judges the difficulty of maps...

Does the fact that my maps contain 100% notes and no spinner/sliders affect the judging?

The old system took a number of things into account, and the new system is supposed to emulate eyupstars, but Normal on my At The Playground map was a whopping 4 stars and I thought it was much easier than Hard mode. I think the small difference in star count is reflected if you look at the broader scope of how pain-stakingly easy a 1-star song would be.

I haven't had time to play your maps so I can't really tell, but to cut a long story short, the star system bases its calculations on the 3 settings in Song Setup (Accuracy, Drain Rate, Circle Size) and also "note density" - number of beats per second of play time. Basically, if you have to click a lot of times per second, it usually indicates a pretty hard map. The 3 song settings will add to the overall difficulty.

Sliders and spinners have equivalent "normal beat weightings" to compensate for the fact that they take up more play time than a single normal note.

Overall, there is a bias towards higher star ratings because under the old system many people new to the game were complaining about the songs being too hard.

I don't want to bore you with more details. It's a complex algorithm...

P.S. awp, the new system isn't meant to emulate eyupstars. It IS eyupstars...
