Hocker_Zocker
In 6th grade I was really bored and suddenly i started to watch Kaichouwa Maid-sama and than more and more animes .
But I wouldnt call my self an otaku ;)
I am just watching really much animes ^_^

Not sure if I could be called an otaku, in terms of general anime knowledge, I don't know a lot.
I became increasingly interested in asian stuff due to Denkare's songs, at the time I had started to play guitar, and I just loved their music.

From there to the rest, just a step.
Ruidoso
Everybody was talking about Asia, but they were talking about mostly Korea. I just love Japan more than other asian countries so one day I found myself searching for Japanese TV and I found those perfect animes.

I used to watch anime with english dubs. I then got tired of waiting for weekly releases and proceeded to find it with japanese subtitles online. Then after catching up and waiting for weekly releases again, I got bored of having nothing to watch and began picking up currently airing anime and downloading as many series as I could to kill time with. I took a lot of recommendations from other people as well until I started actively searching for anime myself. I got into manga a little bit as well while searching for new unique anime. Before I knew it anime became a passion for me.

Started when I was about 4 and watched Sailor Moon/Cardcaptor Sakura dubbed on TV. Moved onto DBZ, Bleach, etc. then stopped for about two years. I was browsing a PSP forum and saw some anime downloads, downloaded Kanokon, and have been watching subbed stuff for about two years now.
Kiddo-Kun
Basically loving Naruto as a kid, and then growing into other animes. But from there, I realized how bad Naruto is compared to other animes. And from then on, I explored.

I was looking around on the internet one day and saw a picture of some anime girl (Konata) and thought "hmm, I'm curious as to what this is even from". Searched it, found out she was from some anime called "Lucky Star", watched it, thought it was pretty awesome, watched a bunch more anime, tried learning Japanese (still learning), and here I am now :p

osu...
The reason why I love anime is that I've played many anime beatmaps in osu= =

Are you're talking about the VOD service on TV?

Nah, I just watched stuff on Toonami and Adult Swim. Then I said fuck TV and fuck dubs. TO THE INTERNET

My childhood consisted of me hugging the TV in hopes of watching that weekend dose of Pokémon, Digimon and other "cool" cartoons. Though not sure why I adored anime so much, It was pretty clear that I'd be driven to become an fan of imaginary stories and colourful animations.

Can't say I'm a die-hard otaku today though. Well, I got to know a lot about Anime and Manga thanks to a particular person, and ever since I've spectated a couple of Cosplay and other anime related events, but... that's about it. If you were to ask me anything, there's a 98% chance I come out embarrassed or casually learning something out of it.

I wish to slowly keep learning more anyway. It seems like a fun, cheery, nonsensical world, a special something which brought me a lot to the table early on. I feel lost whenever I strand away from this direction, so I may as well keep exploring, lol.

Peer pressure,as simple as that. :|

Just exploring the internet I found myself otaku.
Also my classmates have helped to increase my passion for anime and manga!

Well when I was really small like in 2003 I saw sailor moon, digimon, and pokemon... in early 2011 I saw a show called vampire knight, so I watched it and looked it up on the computer and saw it was anime. xD I looked that up and I just kept seeing different shows like: Code Geass, Chobits, Black Butler and got hooked! That then lead me to manga and then vocaloid then nico nico douga, then figma figures and j-pop and k-pop. :D Oh yeah and it also brought me here.. some how... I can't remember tho.. xD
Kyonko Hizara
When I was around 5 or so, I came across some series like Inuyasha, Sailor Moon, Eureka 7, and DBZ. And ever since then I've just kept growing into watching more and more anime.
fuyuko-chan
hmmmm I guess the way it started for me is similar to many people: first starting with a bunch of dubbed anime that was either aired on adult swim or some other channel, followed by the discovery of mangas, and then amv and pv on youtube which led me to discovery of vocaloids, Nico Nico, touhou, etc.
Omnatus
Possible because it gave me inspiration to draw again, and something to do besides games all the time cause that wasn't really helping with building character and realising myself.
Mangon SWE
My brother and his friends watched Naruto and Bleach during their (swedish) high-school years. Sometimes me and my other bro came in to his room and watched a little bit. My oldest bro used to say that japanese was the coolest language and anime was so cool and all. This summer (2011) my brother showed me Smosh and we know they are Poké-fans, and because I never really grew up with Pokémon (sure we had blue and I played it but it was english so I didn't get it) I felt like a retard. So I started to watch Pokémon...for a long while...and then I got bored of it (feb 2012) and I was like: Damn it i need to find a real anime serie to watch. So I found: Tengan toppan gurren lagann watched that continued with bleach followed by Death note (and bleach between all this) and then Highschool of the dead and still bleach and now we are here!

Really? I didn't get to Vocaloid until osu!
Likewise, I've always had an isolated interest in anime, but it never got big until osu!
Toki Hakurei
Fist of the North Star is what got me into watching anime. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is what got me into reading manga.

Though I still consider myself more of a fighting gamer due to Ultimate Marvel vs Cacpom 3 and 3rd Strike.
Symphoniax
Card captor sakura... i was still young then
Toki Hakurei
The manga called "Freezing". And to an extent, fighting games. Hmm...I forgot I already posted in here. Maybe I shouldn't stay up so late.

I loved dragon ball z when I was younger , then I didn´t like anime anymore , and a day buying boring summer study books I found slam dunk 1 and the tragedy of P.When I saw hanamichi´s face and then opened the manga(in an occidental way Lol)and I wanted to buy it dunno why. Then I started to buy more and watch more anime , and.....here is it !! 1 more otaku in the world :3

story of my life, except that I never watched haruhi completely

I think for me it started off as me catching a glimpse of cowboy bebop when I was younger. I always thought anime was cool when I was 10. I discovered manga at 12 and Started buying and reading. I got obsessed and got my own computer at 15, I started watching and reading online, and now it's kind of second nature. I come home from school and get on my computer to check for updates and then watch/read them. I think I became an otaku due to the fact that I never really fit in at school, I figured that if they can't accept me, fuck 'em, I got manga to read and anime to watch. I found this game fairly recently and I think it's made my diagnosis as an otaku stronger.....

My otaku friend introduced me to anime.

my kouhai lent me a manga and the rest was history~

Osu got me into this stuff. Before I had only skimmed the surface of weeabooland. That and my friends helped a lot too.

Yeah I started playing osu because it seemed like a fun rythm game, not because of it's theme.
Anzo
Watched toradora, then after I finished it... "yah, I need to watch more anime like this one..."

Search, watch, search, watch, discovered nico nico douga, vocaloid, and other stuffs, joined otaku groups on facebook, and played stepmania and osu!

Still not attached to manga though (oh wait, my life isn't complete yet)
