How to become decent in osu?

Hey folks,

I consider myself a decent osu player (played half a year). I can beat most insane maps and always try to beat harder maps before I begin to try FC on maps to improve.
However now I have hit some sort of barrier. No matter how often I try I cant seem to get decent on very fast streams that have larger spaces (cant explain it better).

Just take the map from BeuKirby: Ivan Polkka Trance remix for example. I get into the song without any problem and the "straight" fast streams are no problem but after 30 seconds a circle stream shows up (you will know what I mean if you play the map I cant explain it otherwise) which I just cant constantly hit and I fail most of the time at this part.
Now Iam asking myself how can you practise these things or is there some kind of trick to it? Because I just cant imagine how to constantly make it through that part.
Do you know any good practise maps or tips to get better with fast streams that have larger spaces? I would appreciiate any help.

Play the game.
A lot.

Large spaced streams? Those are supposed to be hard...

It depends how you play (mouse, tablet, etc.) but on streams try keys z + x in place of clicking. Personally, on streams, I alternate between x+z/clicking with my tablet pen if the stream is fast, but if it's slower, I only click because I have a better rhythm that way. Play around and find what works for you. If you just keep playing faster songs, eventually you will be able to move onto streams. Hope this helped~

Coming to this forum and creating this thread definitely isn't gonna enhance your skill. Play as much as possible, simple as that.

For fast spaced streams, it might help to practice slower spaced streams first. (some stuff by Larto, for example) If you're dealing with Kirby's map, maybe play the other "KIRBY Mixes". And then, there's always this.

You guys ever get that feeling of deja vu?

I'm pretty sure we have enough threads like this.

Look, you should just keep practicing until you are better. Keep playing.

Oh I just noticed that I wrote bullshit. I meant to write "I consider myself an average player" not decent. Because decent players can fullcombo many insane maps imo and I cant and I dont even try to because I want to get faster first.

Thats a good map for getting faster I guess but not really what I mean. The streams there have very tiny spaces and I finished the map with 80% after my 3rd try now.

I noticed that its doesnt help alot if you try to 100% a map over and over again. Its better to just play harder and harder maps until you are just able to finish them then move on again. I dont know if its a good practise but it worked for me until now.
The reason for this thread is, I just wanted to know if there is some kind of "technice" for these large spaced streams together with much practise.
Also I wonder do the "top" players learn maps by heart to fullcombo them on hidden + hardrock (+ flashlight / doubletime).

You still can improve on your skills by playing val0108's maps. They have a hard jumps, confusing patterns and streams.

His maps are a nice material for practicing.

Edit: As far as I know, pros don't need to remember by heart to fc HR + HD (Hardrock + Hidden). They get used to playing with AR10.

Thanks that really helped. The maps from val0108 are really hard but I can still play them without failing in the first seconds. Thats what I meant with good practise maps.

I only play easy and normal to improve.

I got a freind who started playing osu half a year before I did (I played for half a year myself) and he only tries to 100% the easiest maps. He doesnt improve at all and I can beat far harder maps than he can by now. The more you push yourself the faster you will improve in my opinion. Just try beating an insane map over and over and you will notice it ;).

I dont think it makes a different for normal insane maps wether you play with tablet or mouse. I play with mouse and q/r to tap and I can beat the "easyer" insane maps without a problem. If you arent already really really good I would never spend 200$ or more on a tablet because it wont help you very much (in my opinion atleast). I wont buy a tablet any time soon too, because I can still improve on so many other things before the limitations of a mouse take effect.
If you get into skillevel where you can fullcombo hard and insane maps with some mods I would consider buying one maybe. But I never want to become a "pro" anyway I just want to improve as far as I can. Thats why I will probably never buy a tablet. Also mouse aim helps at other games too :)

Well.. I wash my hands before playing.. That's decent right? :P hehe..

Well, I perpect mods on easy levels (at least at my current game status) and trying harder beatmaps (without mods) whenever I'm ready..

val0108 is the messiah
play his maps diligently and you will be blessed

I only care if I can pass the damn map. I could care less about getting a S/SS rank or improving my overall ranking. Also, I've been playing osu! for half a year as well :P

Yeah, im sure you get the point by now ^^

It's easy to become decent.
Being good however, is something else altogether...
mizorex
just play everyday till your hands are saw.. then play some more to build stamina fast.. practice is your only way... having a tablet and mech keyboard will help in my opinion as it had helped me from when i swapped over.

The only thing to do is to play on and like someone mentioned before, push yourself. If you can't beat that insane, play it again. U FCed it? Nice, go a step further. Repeat this, but never forget to have fun while playing :). Don't get frustrated if you can't FC a map, just try another one or go to multiplayer or something. Osu! wouldn't be so much fun if you're only looking at your skill level. Enjoy the playing and natural improvement of yourself :D!

Actually I said myself that the other dude who said he is only playing easy maps should push himself. I already do that all the time I just needed some good practise maps and now I found them :)
And to the dude that said becoming decent is easy but good is a different level : Ofcourse but judging someone as decent or good always depends on personal opinion. You could say White Wolf is good and the top 500 is decent, but my friend would say Iam good and the top 10 of osu are gods among humans.

This is the answer to every "How can I improve at [insert game here]?"
There is really nothing you can do except play the game. More. And more. And more.
