Wow, I can't believe I haven't heard of this guy. You'd like to think that this kind of shit stopped years ago, but it is still happening to this day; thank you so much for sharing this, I'll pass it on to as many people as possible.

Edit: Anyway, I've known about these events for a while now. Mostly because my grandparents live near Eastern Uganda...as well as about 90% of my family. I'm glad to see a thread dedicated to something like this but really, don't stop just at spreading the word. Inform yourself, donate, do all you can in order to show the world that you really do care. I'm happy that this video is spreading out (you have no idea how hard it is to calm yourself down when all you can think about is if your family is safe where they are). So thank you all for all the support you're putting into this.

Let's not start a flame war here guys, let's just spread awareness for now. I don't want to see this thread get locked because one person has opposite views. I'm glad you watched the video at the very least and even though we don't have the exact same opinion we both know that there is something wrong here. We've all invested different amounts of time into awareness of this (.3. And I thought it was obvious I was emulating an American politician. If you even bothered to do research, this Kony guy has been on a "terrorist watch list" for over 10 years, and basically nothing has been done about him. I am being realistic here--nothing is going to happen to this guy because of this video, and you--"possibly donate"? lmao.
The reason I care so much is because I was about 30-50 miles away from that entire problem during my visits to Uganda. I've talked to a few kids who have had friends in that area get their towns destroyed. If they moved south...best case scenario is that 80% of my family would have been obliterated. That being said, this is quite a sensitive topic for me, so refrain from using negative words in here.
Saw all this craz going on on my facebook so decided to watch it once I got home. Pretty nice video that sheds light on an untouched topic. If I had the money I would donate in a heartbeat! And if April 20 actual happens I wanna see what cities would do.
One thing I'm worried about is after Kony is brought to justice. The dude has been around for 20+ years, he most likely has built some sort of plan if his downfall does occur. He must have some supporters ready to come into action when he is removed and they'll probably do this in secrecy, just like how Kony did. It took 20 for people to recognize a man. Just like Al-qaeda, after Osama was killed, someone else just stepped into the picture. Bring the downfall of Kony and the LRA!

also, barring the tl;dw remark, I think ShangMing's post was less inflammatory and more political commentary
since, you know, nobody's heard of the issue and APPARENTLY the US isn't going to do anything unless it becomes a high profile issue. Not that oil literally has anything to do with Kony, but that there needs to be some kind of incentive before any action is taken because nations simply aren't altruistic. It's not sustainable to do altruistic things.
Still I think some people are serious about this and spreading the word is actually the best they can do.
All this has taught me is that people pay more attention to facebook and youtube than the News or History/Geography class in school. Those people fucking scare me

the Invisible Children movement has been around a few years and it's done absolutely jack squat. All it does is suck in your money and at best makes delightfully educational pamphlets and videos. KONY 2012 is just another fad; people will repost or share the video and feel they've done their good deed for the day by sharing it with someone else who has seen it five million times from other people on facebook. Nothing is going to get done and Ugandan child soldiers will go on with their merry little murderous lives. In a week or so everyone on facebook will go back to posting the same mundane statuses and everyone will have forgotten this.

If anything good is coming from this meme, it's people finding out that the meme is utter crap. Something's not always better than nothing, if that something is just wrong -- and the majority of people just watching these videos, posting crap on their tumblrs and Facebooks and propagating misinformation and backwards stereotypes about a group of people and possibly funding a militia of rapists... see where I'm going with this?
