mouse players [noob question]

So I've been watching a lot of youtube videos regarding osu! top gamer. Do these guys actually play with mouse are do most 'pros' actually use these tablet mice, because I keep asking myself whether tracks on insane are actually possible to finish with a double S when playing with a normal mouse. I only know I can't finish them myself yet, I'm not sure whether I'm gonna be able to just casually finish them or not, but I'd like to know.

Do I with time actually improve or do I only need a really good suited sensivity to finish these kind of maps with a normal logitech mouse.

Also I'm like watching these rank 1-5 players on certain tracks and they seem to like playing with hidden obstacles. Is there a reason behind this? Do they actually play better with that mod, or does this just increase the amount of points they got?

Thanks in advance.

Many ways to play my friend... Many ways, check the osu! Wiki page I made or perhaps gameplay and ranking section in the forums

I read the wiki. Basically I get a lot of praise for being able to finish easier insane tracks with mouse only? :D?

not really

especially since you said "easier insanes"

Well not literally of course, seeing how I'm not even making it into top ranks and stuff, but barely finish the easier tracks, I did not mean it like that Sherlock, but in the sense that mouse players in general get more respect in a sense, because apparently all the top rocks belong to those with a tablet mice. Now I wonder whether the tablet guys are just better or if it's the better suited software ( to prevent Sherlock from posting, I do not wonder that, but figured that tablet seems to be really good for osu ).

From my noob perspective I'd say it's near to cheating but meh. Do you know any real good players, that are in top ranks usually but play with a normal mouse? I'd love to watch him play :)
Sync
Are you being sarcastic by calling me sherlock because that's just mean :(

They do, but not that much

and only if they are good

but nobody really cares that much

it's not anywhere close near cheating and your perspective is wrong. tablet with keyboard is closely equal to mouse with keyboard. you're just using a different device for movement. don't ever think for one second that you are superior because you play with mouse-only.

kriers and lybydose are the only mouse-only pros that I can think of off the top of my head
-Athena-
Lybydose still uses keyboard for high bpm streaming but he's pro nevertheless , shaggon, gladiOol, tana and those are some of the higher ranked pure mouser's I can think off
Sync
oh well

it's just another method of playing

if you're good, you're good

Well why would tablet players lead the ranks then though? They do have an advantage, but I really don't want to be a dick here or anything like that. Maybe it's just me pressuring myself a little too much. It's just that I need some kind of excuse for not being able to finish certain tracks haha.

Lol don't worry, osu! Is a game of practice as someone else put it (forgot who), keep playing and you'll get better

Personally I have trouble calling mouse or m+kb as more skilled/harder. While it is not as easy as tablet, it like on a different level of hard.

It's not that tablets are "easier" in a general sense, so much as they are just more efficient at conveying the message you are thinking, to the game. I think tablet players should be compared to other tablet players, mouse to mouse, m/kb to m/kb. There's far too many semantics involved when trying to comparing say a 16 mil scoring mouse only player to a 20 mill scoring tablet player. Preferably, if networking resources are not an issue, have separate scores for all peripherals.

There's no bias here. I am a M/KB player who thinks that there is just not a necessity to call the "harder" peripheral as a better player. We should be promoting the most efficient means of playing, not going backwards for the stake of a "challenge". Although it is important to note that most, such as myself, might not want to buy a $50-$70 device that has one use to them.

I'm having trouble articulating my argument but one way to summarize is that mouse or m/kb is a more inefficient option compared to tablet, and that inefficiency does not translate directly to more challenge. That a bad player could be just plainly a bad player but look better under the fact he's using an inefficient peripheral. And that there's too many semantics involved in trying to cross compare users of different peripherals.

Yea hopefully! :) Sadly through all this the second question kind of got left. Do you happen to know what I was asking for? :)

Edit: Zelmarked, you're probably right with the way you put it, we just got different views upon the topic. I'm also not saying, that the tablet users are worse in general, in fact if I had a tablet I'd be using it too, and who knows maybe I would end up being not as good as other top ranked players. Fact is I'm mouse only and I should not be blaming other players for using tablets, I think the message came through and I'm willing to accept it! :) I will just keep at it with my mouse and try to get better in order to maybe someday piss on a tablet user haha. Thanks guys :)

Can't seem to make a head nor tail of that phrase... Do you mean 'efficient' or am I just misinterpreting it?

Otherwise spot-on I would say, exactly my thoughts on this topic. I personally use both a mouse and a tablet interchangeably and I would like to add that at least for me, each has its own set of rather balanced advantages and disadvantages, and one can play a certain maps/patterns better than the other and vice versa.

Of course, I'm hardly a pro so my opinions can probably be ignored now.

No I meant that a mouse user could be bad but look better overall then what bad occurred to his on fault. Like vice versa a tablet player could be a good player and do good with his good skill but be shunned more than deserved. Just point out the difficulty in saying how easier or harder one peripheral is over another.

Cheers I get it now, thanks for the clarification! I thought that you had meant 'look better' as in the scores, rather than in the eyes of the community.

You're only a beginner rank. Yes, with more playing you will improve with your accuracy and you will be able to play in higher difficulty maps ^^
Also, you say that these players appear to be playing with hidden notes? That's a mod to use on a map to increase your score
mathexpert
Honestly, there may or may not be a slight advantage between styles but I think that mouse only is a lot more fun~ :)
gokiburi
Physical differences and technical disparities between peripherals account for the apparent difference in difficulty.

Songs can be made harder or easier for each peripheral to play regardless, which just adds to the complexity of trying to calculate which is truly the most straining device to play on; spinners on a tablet, stream on a m/kb

To say that it doesn't take at least a little more effort to play with a mouse at insane levels would be a lie; friction and inaccuracy (albeit minimal) due to the technical properties of a mouse have to be accounted for, while you can generally expect a tablet player to not have to tap the surface and for the cursor and pen to line up properly, as long as your muscle memory is right.

Regardless, in my honest opinion, if you're playing osu! with a mouse for notoriety you're playing it for the wrong reasons.
D33d
The obvious answer is to work with what you have. Assuming that your mouse doesn't have sensitivity buttons, it's not worth changing sensitivity settings because they'd mess with the mouse's tracking. It's hard to play with a mouse at first, but after some time, it's a very fluent method of input.

DEEDIT: I'd also like to add that any map which isn't a horrible mess (which, sadly isn't that easy to come across) will play well on either a mouse or a tablet. Muscle memory makes it easy to play sensible maps without having to concentrate too hard on each object.
SereneMidnight
Exactly. I wasn't that good when I started out, either.
greenmush
Now i feel retarded for just using the mouse.I guess the best way would be to get a tablet. But i can still play fine with the mouse. I tink it is possible to do most songs on the mouse though. Not sure what the difference is with the Tablet or keyboard.*since i never used it* But i can get most songs in insane in at least an S rank. So i wouldnt say it is impossible, probably just take some time to get pro . Also Hidden increases the score.
LunarSakuya
It's all preference. i think
I've always used mouse only and I don't feel retarded at all. I tried tablet but I have yet to get used to it especially since it utilizes the keyboard, which I also don't use (can't really pentap my way through either lol).

But most importantly, practice practice~

...and yes mods increase your score

Edit: oh i answered thinking this was the first page lol

It's weird how most osu!- player can so fast play with a mouse. I know the most players have a specially mouse but a normal mouse is good too. The newbies here in osu think they must have a good mouse to be the best. Guys, that's not true ><

hey guys i play with a 7€ mouse and I'm decent at this game ;_;

You see ? Not everyone must have a 100€ mouse or so .___.'

Shouldn't this belong in the "Gameplay and Rankings" forum? But yeah, you don't need an expensive mouse to play well. I don't even think Silvia has a mouse that's too fancy
Foxtrot
I play with a 10$ mouse and I'm pretty decent.
silmarilen
how is this a question?

My playstyle:

Microsoft basic optical mouse v1 on a 50c mousepad my friend bought in malaysia with mouse acceleration on both in Windows and osu! My keyboard was $10 and was part of the stock products in officeworks, 9 years ago.

I'm still the best compared to people I know in real life, and they all envy my ability to stream and jump in insanes.

Oh, and I started with insanes (the IOSYS maps mapped by djpop, e.g. marisa, kanbu) no fail, instead of going up through normals > hards > insanes.

^Taken a while ago, I now have a real monitor.
