Why do people find this to be that much of a shock?
Wouldn't even bother becoming attached to Youtube either as that has more piracy than any of the file hosting servers which is probably due to be shut down unless they're going to be pretentious about this whole thing...
SOPA is going to cause a world wide recession with an imminent depression afterwards.
They're killing off businesses like Megaupload who were operating legally it's just their users uploading the illegal content, which they actually followed up on and removed content... you know, doing the right thing.
Wouldn't even bother becoming attached to Youtube either as that has more piracy than any of the file hosting servers which is probably due to be shut down unless they're going to be pretentious about this whole thing...

mediafire is a bit more prompt with their removal requests
also i dont see how taking megaupload down will actually prevent this thing from happening. if they take enough of the file-sharing sites down, people will just resort to using torrents instead, which are intrinsically harder to shut down.

This reminds me of the old days of mp3 sites, whose takedowns led the whole community to Napster, and eventually decentralized p2p.
