Apologies if this is in the wrong place, however, I have an idea for a possible addition to osu. I feel that there are probably a lot of accounts that have been used once then discarded, or been inactive for a long time, that are taking up usernames and the like. Perhaps after a certain amount of time inactive, the account is deleted, or more forgivingly, a tag is added to their name so other people could take it. For instance, if I were deemed to have been inactive for long enough, my username would be changed to "INACTIVE:Tj7223", or something along those lines. If I came back to my account and saw this, I could have a free name change, to either change back to the original, if it is not taken, or change to a new username.

Names can be taken from old accounts just by selecting the name when you purchase a name change. Whether it is possible to take it is dependent on their play count across all modes. Not sure of the actual time frame off the top of my head
Endaris
There's a grace period of 6 month that increases for each playcount from 400 upwards iirc.
So for actual dead accounts the name becomes available after 6 months again and for inactive accounts of formerly active community members the name is pretty much locked for eternity (which is a good thing).
But yeah, as mentioned, this is already in effect.

Imagine if "Nardoxyribonucleic" goes inactive.
Having "Inactive:Nardoxyribonucleic" would be too long...

And also, what if they want to comeback someday?

yea.... same for my name lol
Death
As already stated in this thread, taking old account's names is already entirely possible. After 6 months of inactivity + 1 year per 500 playcount (across all gamemodes) the name can be taken.

Pretty sure taken usernames get an "_old" at the end of the username. I saw an user that came back and wondered why their name got an "_old", haha

Alright then! I'm sorry everyone, I was unaware of this already being implemented (at least in a similar fashion). My apologies. TIL.

Maybe some red circle before their name as a symbol that they're inactive? xD
