yeah, recently I heard that any screen resolution of a 5:4 aspect ratio won't work and auto sets itself to the nearest 4:3 resolurtion,
I always play in full screen mode mostly, but I cannot on my new monitor because it is 5:4 @ 1280x1024.

Please add support for 5:4 in full screen :c

Have you tried editing the resolution in the .cfg file in the osu folder? afaik you can force any resolution supported by your gpu/screen that way.

1280x1024 works for my old screen at home (or at least the last time I used it), but it resulted in this disgusting section down at the bottom which is left undrawn. And in the menu, stars spawn down there, and moving the cursor there makes weird trails there too. Though I think that might not exactly be the way it's supposed to be. Either way, only fix for that for me is turning on softening filter, but it would be nice if it were filled in with something.

Yes, but the fact is, for full screen mode, osu will only render to resolutions within the 16:9/4:3 aspect ratios.
It checks upon startup and forces it to a resolution within 4:3/16:9 if it is anything else...

I really can't live without full screen mode, and playing with it all out of proportion is horrible.

If our proportions are wrong, you need to change your graphics driver option of how it scales in full-screen. You should be able to find a setting which does not stretch the osu! content.

getting a new monitor is a much quicker resolution to this problem.

But honestly, I don't understand why you can't play at 1024x768.

In any case, newer monitors have an aspect ratio switch in them where they display either a stretched to fit image or black bars. Most people prefer stretching the image over black bars.

Otherwise it's in your graphics control panel.

Believe it or not, my monitor is a fairly new LG monitor but it only supports VGA input and due to that, GPU scaling isn't available.

@peppy, I have tried all I can, no resolutions appear without stretching in full screen. because if I ever give it a 5:4 resolution, it just drops to a 4:3 resolution.

Do you not have the option at a graphics driver level?
palion
you can manually modify the width/height of the window in the cfg file but that's a poor solution

Yes, but only for only DVI connections, ATI decided against implementing GPU scaling support for VGA because "nobody uses VGA anymore".

@palion, it forces it down to the closest 4:3 ratio despite editing it.
