Slider speeds. I can't seem to get it.

I'm working on my first beatmap attempting to get into the hobby. I'm literally stuck on the second note of the song

I have a slider. I want it to start on a beat and end off of one. However, I can only get it to stop at the next beat. I'm not sure how to do otherwise, since I can't move the end individually on the timeline. I really need bare-bones instructions here, because from what I can gather there's much more depth than what's covered in the faq.

at the top right you can set the map to different snaps varying from 1/1, 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/6, 1/8

If neither of these fit, then your timing is probably wrong

To make your slider longer on the timeline you need to make it longer on the playfield - sliders stay at a constant speed unless the speed is changed with inherited (green) timing sections.
