Crazy Server Traffic

In the recent days, we are peaking at around 16mbits, and averaging 8mbit all day. What does this mean? Well, on the current bandwidth plan, it means the server will go down for over half the month due to excessive traffic usage. Actually, it won't go down, but I'll be charged hefty excess traffic fees if I don't bump the plan up.

The traffic is coming from about 1/3 Bancho server traffic, 1/3 osu! downloads, and the rest from general web browsing. I'm going to look into what I can do to reduce the overall traffic, and also look at pushing the subscription service to a higher priority so I can get some help with covering these costs from those willing to do so, while offering them additional services.

p.s. Don't worry osu! isn't going to die or anything. For all I know this could die down in a day or two like the previous surges of traffic (lets hope so for now).

I've got a bunch of debt this month due to school/book costs, computer upgrades for my brother, and a 360, but I'll see what I can manage.

Thanks guys, but it'd be good to get some of the actual players donating towards the general cause, rather than the same people people (mostly mods) helping out. This is the aim of adding a subscription option, after all :).

I'm not broke or anything - just like to keep osu! as self-supporting as possible. It already sucks enough of my time that I feel it shouldn't really be sucking my money as well. Even though it does, substantially.

I'm definitely going to take part in the subscription system from the beginning, but I'm also planning on donating some extra as well, depending on a few things.

^ but replace donating with "supporting osu! via the purchase of merchandise". I lost my old coffee mug ;x

Also would it be dangerous for me to mirror osu! public downloads or would that just be a pain in the ass to update every PR?

I'm trying to donate, but I can't seem to change the currency from AUD to USD. Can we only donate with that currency?

I may have accidentally locked the currency to AUD... You should be able to convert your local currency on the approximate exchange rate and paypal will handle the conversion of it (they don't charge anything for currency exchange).

i wouldn't mind to donate some money but since i can't use paypal it can be a little hard to find a way to donate some cash to osu!

Eh, converting currencies is a little complicated, so I think I'm just gonna buy an osu! journal, for whatever that's worth. xD

Gasp, I wish I could buy some. In fact, I think I would stick one on my labtop just for fun. And my door. And my school door. And on my homeroom door. And on the teacher's chalkboard. And on my friend's backpack. And on every single car in my highschool parking lot (about 150-300 cars, never bothered to count). And...

But the problem is, I can't buy anything off the internet yet. If I could, I would probably donate $$$ straight away D:
